It only took 2 years, but I have finally made a continuation to this series. I had been sitting on this for nearly 5 months just half edited not wanting to finish it, but now it's out. Hopefully you all enjoy. Thank you for all the support over the months and even years at this point. I hope I can continue to provide the content you can enjoy for years to come :D
I remember learning the F-14 module from your videos during the pandemic. Those were really dark times for me and your quality videos helped me get through it by giving me something to focus on. Thank you so much.
Thanks a lot for those videos ! I've been watching them more than once and taking notes so that they enter more my memory. The hard part is that I have to remove my VR* headset to read notes, and I have prescription lenses because I wear glasses xD Even though I've been watching a lot of tutorials, I still feel like I need a teacher that can practice me in real time. DCS is exactly like school, hard to remember stuff even with notes but 500% more interesting xD. Thanks again for those 8 chapter Dummies videos. Pro Dummy here
I love how you have the vf 111 sundowners paint job and symbol on the lower right-side in most videos on the planes. I was a PR in VF 111 88-91' based in Miramar and went on USS Carl Vinson. I was actually there when we painted 'miss molly' on our show bird. it was only on there for like 2 weeks, been became famous! I been flying the hornet with vf 111 paint scheme and have got pretty good at it so Im ready to move back in time and buy the tomcat. I dreamed of flying it for nearly 40 years since I was a kid and when I was in the squadron. I am used to all the digital stuff in the hornet so I hope I can get used to all the analog stuff.
Well, if you have Discord and want to fly with a group of guys that love VF-111 and emulate them with the F-14A then I can give you an invite if you reach out to me on Discord. I flew as a RIO for them for a couple years. They're a great group and it's why I always run the VF-111 skins on the tomcat.
Thank you so much! This is so useful lol. I can even do melee kills with the versatility of this beast. Literally just diving into them and coming out alive without a single scratch. Bout to pawn those vipers hornets and flankers
A fantastic series...just getting into the F14B and want to fly back seat. Will you be releasing a "DCS F-14 for Dummies Chapter 6: Combat for 'RIO's" ?
There is a fourth rwr sound. If a new radar emitter has been found (like the first one you showed), but it can fire in TWS like Eagle, Viper, Hornets, or etc. This just means that it can fire a Fox 3 missile using the TWS method, a very distinct sound will play as multiple consecutive pitch-changing beeps.
Just want to point out that it is possible to despense chaff as a pilot with Chaff and Flare despense both set to manual and flare mode on normal through the Jester menu if I remember those steps correctly.
I had that in the video but I deleted it last second cuz when I went to go get footage for it I was unable dispense it using the DLC button. Bit of an oversight, but it should be fine. Thank you for the correction. Also, I am making the series under the assumption you will be flying with a human RIO. I will have a dedicated Jester video in the future, but Heatblur said they are overhauling the Jester menu so I am absolutely waiting for that.
At this time, 9/6/23, you can press the Jester menu button twice, then six once for the countermeasures menu and two twice to select chaff for the pilot to manually dispense. I think reverting to flares again is Jester menu twice, then six once, then two once and then one once, which should switch you back to dispensing flares. It appears that this combo actually dispenses from the BOL rails and not the Beaver Tail buckets. At least that's the way it animates IG.
They aren't the same. The relative bearing is just azimuth radar angle. It doesn't take into account any elevation angle you may have on the radar. So, unless you are almost perfectly co-altitude with the target and flying level, the actual antenna train angle is not the same as the relative bearing angle on the TID. I didn't mention the BRG angle for expressly this reason.
@@killkesscmbn The limits for up and down, if I remember correctly from my RIO radar video, are 60 up and 70 or 80 down. So quite large. But if you're in something like a 20-30 degree dive then the BRG angle is going to be very inaccurate to your true antenna angle. That's why I made a part talking about how to use the VDI to do a solid crank angle
No, there's a line sticking out horizontally from the edge of the screen on both sides that line up with the witch hat and act as a virtual ADI. There's a gap between the horizontal line and the witch hat so you want to place the upside down T in between that on either side to perform the crank. The big vertical line that is the launch range indicator doesn't matter for this.
@@Joemate23 Yes! I had a graphic for it, but I forgot to put it in the video. But yes, the T-shaped steering cue should form a bridge with the virtual ADI in level flight to perform ~45 degree crank. If you dive 10-20 degrees it should increase to a 50+ degree crank
After you get a radar lock, the sidewinder will automatically attempt to slave to the radar target, but will continue to be locked to the boresight so hitting the cage seam button will unlock the seeker gimbals and allow it to confidently lock onto the target you are locking with radar
@@PrezDCS when merging with multiple hostiles, is there any way to fire a Sparrow at one target (and ofc maintain lock), and also fire a SW at another target? Or would it only be possible if SW goes first?
@@algroyp3r As far as I'm aware, this isn't possible, but I haven't experimented in a while. If the target is far enough off-boresight then you may be able to do it since the SW seeker can't slave to the radar target outside of 40 degrees.
15:09 will this work when I fire an aim7 and try to notch the incoming missile bc when i fly perpendicular to incoming missile jester always says "I lost lock."
In a majority of cases, you cannot perform a notch and attempt to guide a missile to target with the radar because you are exceeding the gimbal limits of the radar whether that be in azimuth or elevation. In order to notch, you need to be as close to putting the enemy radar 90 degrees off your nose as possible. The gimbal limits of the F-14 are 65 degrees left or right. So attempting to notch and guide a missile is physically impossible except in certain cases against active missiles
@@PrezDCS Thanks! Fighting jets with fox 3’s is hard bc their missile goes pitbull and they notch my aim7 while i still try to maintain a lock and get hit! 😞
@@iskatran Yeah, the F-14 is definitely a bit behind when it comes to actual Fox-3 combat when it's best medium range missile option is the AIM-7. The AIM-54 can do it, but you have to get in close and pretty much just rely on shooting inside PAL range. I always recommend to sticking to your strengths. Also, it helps to just not fight other fighters equipped with a proper Fox-3 like the AIM-120 lol
Make sure you’ve seen the previous chapter and the update videos associated with it to be sure. Could be numerous things, but perhaps you are shooting inside of 21NM which would deny the loft
Yes. This information is pulled directly from the Heatblur F-14 manual. You can also see that reflected in the target range scale with the dash mark stopping at around the 4000ft marker.
I believe so. There's a black cockpit mod for the F-14 that you can find in the user files page on the DCS website. It may also be on the forums somewhere, too

Here in 2024 with the F-14 as my 1st module and Prez as the only person to help me…thanks for your effort on this series broski
