I have been doing this for matchbox cars for close to 50 years now. I used to hold a class or two at my MCCH convention showing people what to look for. But for the last 10 years, I’ve given up the new matchbox for the insanity after 60 some odd years of collecting. Fakes are large part of this hobby and you should never invest in something which you do not know.
@@717ammonia yes many fakes within all brands of diecast
There's scammers and cheats around every corner
Pretty cool! Never knew about the base and the trademark.
Like this guy
Thank you! I try..
There's also a coco puffs GTO from around 2002 I think, apparently there is a yellow/orange window variation that is really rare.
At this point i just never believe anyone when it comes "rare" variations or factory "errors"
I have factory errors in my collection way before people could do their work on fakes. Now they are all useless in value bc of these custom idiots screwing with diecast. And they do not care why!! bc they are not real collectors of the hobby. Just another way to make a buck for most and a bit pride in selling a custom they made to brag about to others.
Love your input in that video. I have had the gold one since 99 and got the blue one a month ago both have 5 spokes and correct interiors
Yeah such a nice casting! It's a shame that later versions came with a plastic base still cool ones but plastic ...😊
As long as you're not advertising it as a fake, I don't see the problem with custom jobs. I think that blue Chevelle with the five dots looks great.
In the future like in 50 yrs those future collectors will get scam in the secondary market with fakes.Thats the problem with custom makers its fun for them until the scam on someone else starts happening.
@bustos1959 that's why they need to be documented..
@@ADubTheGrizzy fakes or customs have been happening for way too many years. The ones hurt are the innocent collectors who dont know what to look for or watch out for
@@bustos1959 yes ive seen this happen back in the early 2000s with some hotwheels 1st editions
@@HotWheelsTV yes true Mike 👍🏁
Awesome episode!!! You know me Mike, I love variations and I'm always verifying for some that are out there
Great video as always learn some thing from ever video.thanks Mike
Mike thank you for all of the info you give us.
Nice one you have and you reviewed congrats.👍And happy 4th of July my friend Mike zarnock congrats to you my friend.👍
THANK YOU for always having been the source of accurate information!!!
Oo man you Nailed it!! Ive been working on blazin bug variations and i thought i was close to having them all and this dude on FB showed like 6 different versions of one car and i was thinking to myself NO way but I didn’t want to get any one mad.
No need to get anyone mad... just save your money for the real variations... Right?
I like the 1998/99 first edition lineup 🔥
Been collecting hotwheels diecast since I was 12 years old some 55 years later my love ❤️ is just the same coming up to 10thousand models I've banned collectors from my house because they always want to buy cheap and make a profit i don't sell because i enjoy looking through the range and truly appreciate what i have 🤠🦅⭐👍✌️🏁🏁
I'm really liking the Mongoose/Snake set behind you.
The Funny Car set is on the floor next to me too! I need to get it on the wall..
Thank you, I have a few of those, chevelle’s can you show the different variations.
Fascinating stuff . Regards from England
Got a 1976 corvette no interior . No seat no steering wheel
Been collecting the street raider for many many years there’s nearly 60 variations of the casting some the international only ones are very very hard to find so you possibly have a video on that casting ?
Great info, Mike! I do have your past books and wish you did them again. I know there is a lot out there now.
How rare is my 5 spoke 2006 treasure hunt pit cruiser over the 3 spoke?
Last I knew or have listed, the chrome rim, black 5 spoke front wheel bike was going for $50 give or take..
Not to mention there was a variation missing outline hoodstripes on blue .... saw the wiki showing the white interior on gold ..... talk about easy to fake that as well as the blue 5 dot ...
The missing pin stripe is a variation. There were a lot of them found.
I don't know what you think of you guides the following year listing wheel types and variations. I bought a 2000 year Lee's Toy Guide listing all 1999 Hot Wheels and the wheel variations and other characteristics variations such as white interior or "made in Malaysia" or other. I haven't wanted to buy a Hot Wheels variation because I just collect for fun, custom and play.
Back in the late 90s and early 2000s I use to change the color on the first editions with clothing dye and repackage them and I would purposely do it for pay pack towards the guys at Target and Toys R Us who would always team up to push me out when the store would open I would slip onto the shelf my custom when they were not looking and watch them find my custom and they would get excited and fight over it saying they found a super rare one. I would try not to laugh as they would actually pay the 95 cents leaving the store excited. That was my payment for the 49ers tickets they also would hook up managers to get al the rare ones first dibs. I have gotten so tired of the connection collectors have even to this day where I always get only the kids left overs I don't even try and waste my gas anymore searching. I just buy left overs for my my custom big track. Once I find an affordable site where I can order a case once in a while to make sure I don't miss out on my favorites I'll do that.
Yes... and you weren't the only one.. It has happened all over the country.
I don't do customs, but what I will do is get an original empty blister pack for my near mint redline and seal it in. Makes a great display and costs a fraction of a never opened redline bp. Do you consider that fake too ? (I would never claim it was unopened).
Yes... a lot of people do that.
Are you familiar with a base variation on this years 55 Chevy gasser and total disposal I have a couple of each with different flame logos and capital and lower case Malaysia writing really love the show
Thank you! And yes...
I have been trying to find the hard Chevelle with white interior, I thought it was a mid-run change from black to white interior. Guess my hunt is off...
Is it possible it’s a error or errors out there ?
@@aaronscott2278 it is not possible for the gold Chevelle to have a white interior. The time frame between production of the original blue and the gold recolor was was to long for it to be a transitional possibility.
@@VladimirBlarpoh wow very nice
@@VladimirBlarp it also blows my mind how many crazy errors are out there huge error collector here my favorite to find are unspun packaged errors even found a few premiums threwout the years
I don't think they have a QC Dept anymore since they know us crazy collectors will buy anything they put in a Hot Wheels package! (JK)
Hi I found in store 2 vw baja bug zamacs. They have different wheels than the original. Do I have something of decent value? Have them in protectors in storage. I value your opinion. Thankyou 👍
Mike did an entire video on the ZAMAC bug wheel variation you note. It was suppose to be rare and only available in certain parts of the US yet I found 10 of the variations just last year.
@@JAGoldenbergthat's for the information, I saw a set sell at auction on eBay for over 300.00.👍
@@jerzeydevil8264 watch Mikes video. I actually think he did 2 on the topic not more than a year ago. Should be easy to find on his channel.
Here is the ZAMAC Bug episode.. ruclips.net/video/qABfB5sM9ME/видео.html
Thanks Mike, appreciate the info. Have a great and safe 4th of July 🎉 everyone
Could one get slipped by as a error with the 5 dots I got a ton of older errors that will blow peoples minds love collecting and finding errors but he’s your correct tons of fakes or customs out there
one maybe... but the amount that were popping up with different rivets or JB Weld on the base...? LOL
We appreciate you sharing this info with us . Thank You
Have I ever emailed you the matchbox I found that had a Hot Wheels wheel set on the rear? I found it in a store and when I shared it online people were telling me that it’s impossible/fake since matchbox aren’t made in the same factory. I don’t know if that’s true or not but I know what I found. What would you think?
HW and MB are not only not made in the same factory, they're not even made in the same country
@@VladimirBlarp well I found a matchbox on the shelf with matchbox front wheels and white PR5 rear wheels. Dunno what that means but I have it. I thought it was cool
When you hear rare, you better beware 😅😅😅
Always!
Mike, wondering why anything is wrong on the HotWheels Wiki is like wondering why the sky is blue. It just is usually! 😂🤣😂
And for clarity's sake could you do a video pointing out how they aren't "rivets" and it's better for the hobby in general to call them "posts"?
I can only imagine how many times a day/week/month that you have to go thru pointing out faked variations to duped collectors that want their car to be worth what they paid when it truly is a fake.
LOL....
Great video, it's getting scary how good some counterfeits of all kinds of things are getting these days.
Definitely need to be extra careful, alot of people buy first then do the research after.. not good..(I've learned my lesson on that a couple times😅).
Yes... there are some people out there that are amazing at that stuff!
Great info Mike.
Have a safe 4th everyone! 🫵👍✌️🇺🇸
Just like with the Goodyear Daytona super it’s not real
I did an episode on that too when it came out! ruclips.net/video/3LZ1DxtxLPc/видео.html
Opinions are like assholes got the car you got the choice it's who's into what
Most definitely, but don't get taken and spend big money for a fake...
I like customs...but don't sell it on as a RARE...car.
@271chrissy and that's why we all need to know what's real or fake..
@@HotWheelsTV Too true man.
🙄🤫
One of my all-time favorites it's nice to get that insight info on them...
Very informative thanks Mike
There is a market for scammers everywhere....
Unfortunately it has been for some time now... That's why we need to be informed.
Just discovered this channel. As a lifelong Hot Wheels afficionado, I had to subscribe. Awesome video, thanks for the knowledge.
Thank you and welcome!
Hi Mike, hope you're doing well and the family, thought I'd comment to let you know I'm still watching 👀 when I can😊, Sweet episode. -3 degrees Celsius and snow ❄️ 🌨🌨🏔 on the mountains 5.30am here Tuesday morning getting ready for work, all the best Cheers 🍻 KC 🏔🏔🌨🌨❄️❄️🇦🇺🇦🇺🤝🇺🇲🇺🇲🦘🦘🦘🦘

@HotWheelsTV your welcome Mike, and OK sweet we need it, appreciate the reply 👍 Cheers 🍻 KC 🇦🇺🇦🇺🤝🇺🇲🇺🇲🦘🦘🌨🌨🏔🏔🍻🍻🇦🇺👍
Always love the Info. You brought major detail to my hunting mike. I do the research on the stuff I have. Love the hunt .
Thank you!
It's fake
Well, somebody might want to tell the people at Halls guide the bad news, because they have both cars listed as being valued at hundreds each. If you run a price guide and don’t actually know about the product you are pricing, how can you be trusted? I can’t believe that there are millions of hot wheels collectors and we can’t get a legitimate price guide. I don’t collect for the money and have sold very few of them. But at the same time, if you are in a business that has millions of collectors, then respect the collector of your product and put out a legitimate price guide! You might get more collectors! Now since I can’t trust Halls guide, where do I turn to?
A lot of places will take anyone's comment and photo to list it in their guide. There are a few that are no longer around that would take anything and print it... You may notice that my books and all I do is authorized and licensed by Hot Wheels and has been since 2002. Plus most others don't have the resources and contacts that I do. The designers and others at Hot Wheels are my personal friends and I can call or text them at any time for questions.
@@HotWheelsTV so is this the creator of Halls guide? If it is, I’m sorry if I came off as rude but after watching Mike Zarnoks last video about hot wheels that never existed, it was a surprise to find both cars in the guide. I have been following Halls guide to purchase my blue card hot wheels. So does the 1999 hot wheels chevelle ss five dot wheels exist? Or the 2000 gold chevelle ss white interior? I do appreciate the work that is put into the guide and will continue to follow it for my blue card collection. It helps me when I’m at an antique store
Thanks 4 the info! 👋👍
amazing showcase!
Mark, thank you for your video. I was wondering if you would create a video on the mechanics behind variations and the many reasons they occur. i.e., transitions pieces, artists change mind, re-use of prior casting to make the next release, errors in production. in fact, now that i think about it, a video could be made on each subject. ha ha. anyways, thank you for all that you do and keep hunting!
Sure... I think I will sit with Brendon next time we get together and we'll do that!
Fantastic mate awesome channel thanks
No worries
Nobody should buy/want a faked car. Don't create a demand and there won't be a responce, right?
Very true! But the people that do it, do it to make money... And we'll never be able to stop that..
Glad to have someone like you in the hobby that really knows the variations that do exist 😁👍
That's why I I wrote my first book that was released in 2002... All of my books have TRUE Variations... No Ghosts and all the photos are mine from my collection..
Definitely a difference from a custom or error or a variation amazing video
What about that 5 dot `66 Batmobile. I`ve heard the real/not real arguments but anyway, never saw one in hand. When buying errors or varies, know what and who you buy from and it should work out. Seeing these total fakes people try to ebay gives me mixed feelings. one you got to laugh and two you want to go let the air out that guys tires one night. lol
I have seen a couple that other people have along with a couple transitional ones too... 5dot rear or 5dot front.. but can't say that I have done any research on that one.
Awesome video thanks for the heads up and watching out for us fellow collectors. Thank you for sharing
Mr.Z! I haven't seen you sense BOCES, glad to see you're still pursuing your passion. I Hope all is well!
Good to hear from you Ray!! Hope you're doing well!!
The wiki is a dang nightmare. People correct info and some knob reverts it back. It's annoying as hell
Anyone that uses the wiki as gospel in this hobby is ignorant.
I just started collecting about 6 months ago and was using the wiki as a checklist for 2024 HWs and I noticed some of the colors they had listed didn't seem right, especially for the Kroger store exclusives
@@robbieracer3294 that's what happens when it's a database anyone can edit at any time.
Good for general use but not to be used for deeper details lol.
Yes... if anyone can edit it, how can it be correct?
Nice spot Mike, we appreciate it.
Any time!
Great video .
Thanks!
My picture off the Hot wheels car was bought that way how do I get it recognised for missing two tyres
Errors like that are very common these days..
Great info
You are the man. Thank you Sir. I have been buying Hot wheels since 1989, love them.
Good advice sir
Thank you SOOO much! Hurts to get swindled.
@guthammer yes it does! Again, that's why I wrote my first Variation guide. Too many people were getting taken, including me! It took two years to write the first one to get all the facts straight!
Mike, if you're interested, I can send you pics of how easy it is to make a gold with white int Chevelle
Thank you! Did you already put the up on my facebook page or was that someone else? I appreciate it!
Thanks Mike 🔥🛞
Welcome!

Thanks for the video on many fake variations 👍😭
No problem! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the learning of the fake hotwheels my friend appreciate you thank you .

Everyone needs to pay attention to the audience I'm hot wheels when war happens and if we win my hot wheels will be worth something but lets see if hot wheels survives our predisesers
They've survived for over 50 years! Let's hope for at least 50 more!

I’m no HW aficionado but I could tell immediately that blue car was a fake with those posts.

Yes mike have the 2 casting but your right not real!!
