- I genuinely think this is the best Mothra has been in years. I wasn't a fan of her portrayal in King of the Monsters, but I thought that she was as magical, colorful, and whimsical as she's always been portrayed to be in the Toho films. I loved seeing her in action once again. I will say, not sure how to feel about Holkenborg's Mothra theme. I appreciate the soothing synths, female vocals, and calm Iwi orchestration, but the motif isn't that compelling to me considering it's a theme for Mothra herself, and I feel she's had more interesting motifs in other films. It's serviceable, but nothing that draws me in personally.

Just sounds like a rip off. He does that with every theme in the MonsterVerse. If you’re going to play the first 2 or 3 notes of a song, might as well actually play the real thing instead of the dollar store version.

The visual aspect and color palette of the film in general is very good, but when Mothra appears it is excellent, it is beautiful at all times
Just how a queen like Mothra should look.
I love the original Mothra theme, I love Bear McCreary’s rendition of the theme. I also love Michiru Oshima’s theme for Mothra for Tokyo SOS, it’s different but it fits her character.
This theme for Mothra fits the character, it’s regal and majestic as the Queen deserves. Just like the new Godzilla theme is powerful and loud, and Kong’s is heroic.
I don’t get why people say it’s a bad score. Disappointing sure, worth a listen outside of the movies themselves? Probably not. But they fit the monster action very well.
Exactly, I like the majestic feel this theme has, even if it's not the same original.

The Return of the Queen.
I didn’t like this theme at first but after seeing the movie it’s beginning to grow on me. I only wish it was the actual Mothra leitmotif instead of a weird soundalike, just like Godzilla’s theme. Those original themes in Junkie’s style could work really well IMO, but he just refuses to do them for some stupid reason about them “not fitting a modern film” or whatever.

I rather the original themes like in KOTM they could have easily been worked in with the new ones. KOTM soundtrack claps this one .
I think the issue is licensing. Legendary not only has to pay to license Toho's kaiju but also the kaiju's roars and pay for their musical themes. I hear that each license is really expensive which is why we only heard their original themes in KotM and not since. It's another reason why Legendary is creating their own kaiju instead of paying to use Toho's. And let's give Junkie XL's co composer some credit. I think Antonio Di Iorio is the reason I like this score more than GvK. I'm not a fan of Junkie's scores except Fury Road and Mortal Engines. I think a lot of his stuff sounds soulless and flat but I think his collab with Di Iorio is the difference for me for GxK. Kept him away from his worst tendencies, IMO.

The only real problem that I have with Mothra's inclusion in Godzilla X Kong is that she doesn't get to do much (which makes sense since she was originally some bird and they had to put her model over it in the last minute). Either way I'm not angry, at least she got a chance to be in the movie and hopefully she'll get to contribute to the plot even more.. maybe even her own solo movie.
Phosphera was a placeholder in case they didn't get the rights, it was always supposed to be Mothra

Honestly, I don't get the hate with this theme. I honestly love it.

The "IWI findings" section goes unnecessarily hard.
Mothra was a spectacle as always. Even if her appearance was short.
Lemme just say it like this: GxK Mothra looks better than her KoTM version but the KoTM Mothra theme is among the best ones if not the best one ever created
Bear McCreary's KotM score is god tier like a lot of his work. I keep that score on heavy rotation. Mothra looked good in both films but I do agree with you, she looks better in GxK.

it may not be the toho theme but it's still majestic
Its slowly growing on me, but i do enjoy her original more.
I wouldnt be opposed to giving her a new ost that takes like, 30% from this and 70% from the original to make an interesting mix
I honestly feel like Mothra was underutilized in this movie. She had like only 2 minutes of screentime here compared to the 6 minutes of screentime of KOTM, and did even less here than KOTM. She felt kinda shoehorned in GxK and felt like she didn’t matter. She didn’t even participate in the final battle, where in KOTM she did and was a crucial part in the movie and in the final fight, unlike in GxK. And the new theme by Junkie XL really doesn’t help, souring even more her barely there presence. Don’t get me wrong, I’m happy she is back, but she did more in KOTM where she felt like a crucial part to the story unlike GxK.
Your crazy dude. Mothra literally participated in the final battle 😂 when they were in hollow earth she helped protect godzilla and the humans. Literally if you would stop complaining you would know that she was there to protect them all

I wish I could buy/download this song, it’s all so nicely put together and beautiful, whereas in the movie O.S.T. it’s a bit all over the place.

While I love McCreary's Mothra Theme, I gotta give props to Holkenborg man. He created a theme just as beautiful as McCreary's in King of the Monsters. At some parts, it even sounded like McCreary's theme most of the time. Man, I wish these two can work together at some point in a future monsterverse film, and have a conversation like Windgard did with MInus One's Director. Maybe Tom can learn a little something from McCreary along the way.
McCreary's Mothra Theme is the original Mothra Theme from Yuji Koseki.

Considering Holkenborg said he felt it was insincere to use the OG themes (despite knowing his predecessor had done exactly that), I doubt McCreary would ever want to sit down and chat with him when Holkenborg is taking shots at his work

This song is honestly amazing and as good as kotm to me, I love both the themes
But on the side note, Mothra being revived on the temple doesn't make sense to me. Like whenever she dies, she gets reborn through her eggs and her memories will telepathically transfer to her egg. But then she gets revived randomly?? That doesn't add up to me.
And what happened to the egg that was in kotm’s credits, couldn’t they just get a scene where Mothra emerges from said egg instead of her appearing out of buck no where

Tom's themes are okay. Only reusing the main leitmotif but making it arguably worse and more toned down when compared to the KOTM version is getting a little lazy. They need to get a new person to do the soundtrack for the next possible sequel.

The melody is way too cheesy for a film about giant animals. They're turning into superheroes... I personally don't think this is a good choice musically.

They were never considered superheroes (heros and superheroes are wildly different things) and more of an alliance of humanity and nature, yet never truly on on our team. It was about the coexistence. I'm okay with a superhero take on the characters, but not if the tone was already established in the universe. I prefer things to be a little more consistent. The Lord of the Rings series is a great example of constancy in tone. They add a lot to each film, yet they stay true to the intended tone of the first installment.
I'm sure the film is still fine, but I just don't care for it as much since it's not my cup of tea.
