- The Mi-171A3 is a new modification of the Mi-171 family of multi-purpose helicopters, designed for offshore operation, transportation in sea conditions and, in particular, for logistics among offshore drilling platforms.
Based on the Mi-171 platform and having a significant number of common elements with it, the A3 model, however, incorporates many innovations, including an almost completely new fuselage, which distinguishes it so much from its relatives. Thanks to these innovations, the Mi-171A3 fully meets all the requirements of maritime logistics, which makes it, in fact, the first full-fledged offshore helicopter created in Russia.
At the beginning of 2022, the Mi-171A3 has already been created, made its first flight and is undergoing certification tests.
Today we will have an opportunity to get acquainted with this interesting machine, look at it closer and think about the prospects. Welcome aboard!

One of the reason why newer Russian helicopter, planes etc, doesn't sell very well because the older one already good enough. This helicopter probably make Mi 38 pretty difficult to sell.
Dude take a look at the Ukrainian war, even the newest Russian stuff is comparable to 1980s nato equipment. All Russian equipment is shit. Even the AK series is shit, the M16 was proven to be more reliable in tests
The Mi171A3 appears to meet the requirements of users. The Mi-38 does not seem to be in competition with the Mi-171A3. So if components from one production line benefit another line, isn’t that for the best?
I wish the Mi-171A3 every success!
As a DCS user, I was never interested in the Mi-8, I always used to think "why would people want to fly that?!", but I begrudgingly purchased it to fly with a friend and I was hooked within 5 mins. It's SOO much fun to fly! It may be a bit of a cow, but it can dance! great Helo! (Crew Campaign Missions are fantastic).
And imagine if they ever make it multicrew capable...
Same here. Love her from day one, but took some time to handle her well.
Absolut badass with 3 ofp Rocketpods per side 😮
Machines created in the 60's & 70's, still tough to beat. Mi-17… F-16…C-130…And the Kalashnikovs
Kalashnikovs are from the 1940s) Ancient gun)
Don't forget the UH-1 Huey....
@@265justy yeah Huey too.
Having the foundation of the legendary Mi-8 will put this modification on solid ground. It looks great and will be as rugged and reliable as it’s predecessors. I’d like to to see it do well in international sales.
It is amazing to see the Mi-8's core design still being improved upon decades later. Great video, thank you for sharing!
You dont mess with success, pity the Seaking family
has been retired, but the S92s a sort of seaking, just more like the OLD USAF HH3E, THE ORIGINAL JOLLY GREEN GIANT of the Vietnam era,,
.....
@@tonywilliams8426 there are some still flying... apparantly Peru just got 6 of them for $600....
It's the most reliable helicopter in its category. Sturdy, cheap, rugged, reliable.
"Just flying no longer works. Now we need safety."
This is so funny but also so true if you look at the history of aviation lol
Wish the Philippine 🇵🇭government prioritize purchasing this Heavy Lift helicopter for our ‘unending’ natural disasters.
This can't be a Russian helicopter. There's no fan mounted on the glare shield. 😉
Still has the mechanic clock dough
Surely the production version will have a fan.
No, there is the mounting for such fan, 1 each side.
What is more of an crime is that there is no 9 lines of switches on the overhead of the cockpit. What a shame
🤣 🤣 🤣
😂😁 So true!
she's been down the gym - and had a makeover !
I love the way he talks. Informative and everything. And one of the best English language sources for information on Russian aircraft
“Stylish, fashionable and youthful appearance” - it’s a beautiful craft! It’s probably too advanced/complicated/expensive for commercial passenger use, maybe they could slap those stylish, fashionable and youthful looks on simpler equipment. I’d get on it in a second! Thanks for your usual informative and entertaining piece.
Thank you for the upload Sir well presented.
Russian Mi-8 (Mi-17) helicopters are internationally considered reliable all weather workhorses. Arctic operation capabilities in particular would be appreciated by the energy industry. Both competitors and customers alike are undoubtedly waiting for the serial production models to appear.
It is a very good looking helicopter indeed. Cudos to the engineers that made this vehicle. And this is a good video as well. I love your content Skyships Eng!
Beautiful bird. I wish you safe travels.
Funny how one month and global events can change the outlook of such promising projects.
Very impressive, I love it!
Beautiful hope to see more of these stories of new and old planes
Its a shame sanctions will put a stop to this project. It does feel like the modern version of the sea king. The sea king did everything in its many models and there's a good number still flying today.
Thanks Sky!!
So interesting! I really appreciate your technical knowledge and excellent photography.
Your presentation is awesome
Super Mil MI 17 ! very good video
I predict it absolutely will be a success
Nice. Impressive. ( Loved the narration! )
was hoping you do a history of the Mi-17/8.
That's awesome. Great video.
Watched this video in your Russian language vid chanel, was super excited for this in English and finally the video is here...
BTW I Love Russian Helicopter's specially Mil mi17 and kamov ka226t.
The MI-8 received what the Puma needs ... a new up to date fuselage !!
Very nice machine.
Please russians make one with retractable landing gears,it will be verry very very beautiful
Spannend gemacht und für mich als Laie verständlich. Gratuliere!
Ak47, mig 21, mi8 are GOAT
"now we also need safety, reliability...." ikr, whatever happened to the good old days when you didn't need those things? :)
I love This multifuncional machine
Ok 🤔 You can sell this video for the helicopter manufacturer. They can use it as marketing material 🥳
The rear ramp still can't take any loads above 2 persons at one time. This weakness still has not been solved
Would love to fly a helicopter
Oh, that's exotic experience)
Get DCS!
Good vid bro.
Nice to see a Russian-born home-style helicopter, that both meets IOGP standards...and a home market... Nothing wrong with that idea. big MI 171A3... Best of luck going on with it and the success of both home and foreign markets!
I want one as an RV.
Смотрю первый раз на русском, а потом полирую еще английской версией))

Wondering what happens to Mi-38 then.....
Very interesting documentarie 👍👍
The Russians tend to build very rugged and reliable aircraft.
nice!
Nice video!
how about tha kamov k-60 ? looks similar to the western offshore helicopters
Thank you for using the word "farther" than "further".
Based!
Omg....you can see it's history...that style is like a DC- 3 of the rotary world Russian style... better yet. The AN - 2 of rotary wing aircraft.
i like the russian and soviet aircarft designs.
keep the videos coming.
👍👍👍👍🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
Wonderful Go Rissia 😍😍😍
Why double tail rotors?
Double rotor allows to increase the efficiency, reduce the diameter and the noise
Haven't heard from you in a while. Are you ok?
Could'd you make videos about some important piston aircraft, such as DC-3, DC-6, Constellation series...?
Good video. But the Mi-8 cannot be an eternal basis, even it will someday become obsolete. Are they make new helicopters?
Nyet, helicopter is fine
the funny thing is that they made a new one.
The Mi-38, designed at the turn of the 1990s, was supposed to be more expensive but much better.
However, with the collapse of the Soviet Union, the project was delayed, a problem arose when, when the helicopter was ready, it turned out to be much better than the Mi-8.
In the versions from the late 1980s, no one expected how much modernization potential these machines had. To cut a long story short, it turns out that it is only slightly better than the modernized Mi-8, but still much more expensive
Consistently practical, solid and easy to work on, but will it knock the S92 off it's established perch. Not sure about that, looks solid enough though. Well see eh, very good video too
Btw, it is you who's in the video up-close to aircraft, right?
I don't seem to be in the picture. Except that the legs and arms a couple of times)
There's no such word as "aircrafts", it's "aircraft" whether it's singular or plural (like "rice" or Pasta").
@@Aeronaut1975 Huh, I didn't know that. Thanks for telling me.
It looked like a mini mi26
it looks like french super puma helicopter from out side
Flew on a MI-8 about 40 years ago. Found that the aircraft had a lot vibration in it. Watching the tail section wobble during flight made it a very interesting flight especially when the tail rotor hit the fuselage. We did make a safe roll on landing on a taxi way. When the pilots had on parachutes it made me wonder if the aircraft was safe to fly. Then to watch this remake of a older aircraft design with its upgrades, watching this aircraft flying and seeing the stability in flight, oh what a beautiful aircraft. I have flown on many helicopters from different manufacturers and made some parachute jumps from them. It sure would have been nice to make a jump from the MI-8.
Pilots with parachutes in a heli? And you were able to see a tail rotor out off a window (never mind it hitting something without deforming or cutting off tail boom, lol) Are you a lier or are you a russia hating propagandist?
@@TocTeplv You can say what you want. I did mention anything about looking out a window and seeing the tail wobble or cutting off or the tail. It did hit the skin of the tail boom. Plus I never mention what country I was in when this happen. Yes these pilots had butt type parachute on because I ask a officer with that Army about it. As for the tail when the aft clam shell is off you can see the whole tail section of the aircraft. As for being a lair you would have to been there to see what I saw. How many years ago did I mention. Where you even alive back then. As for hating Russians I do not think so. I meet a few Russians due the Cold War at Check Point B. His English was I impeccable and he was a very respectful Russian Military Officer. Both of us treat each other with the upmost respect. Unless you were there your comments are really mute. What they do 40 years later in that county I have no clue. That was in 1983. Do your research or reach out and get an understanding of what I saw back then instead of caring on calling some out. You have never walked in my boots or have seen what I have seen in the world.
Coop story kid
@@Chris-nn3vu I am an Old Man now. Back then I flew on many different helicopters and airplanes all over Europe. Back then it was fun.
definitely a illogical troll 😂😂
Why does the tail rotor looks like that?
Interier looks so spacious now. Face lift suits her.
Any chance of visiting any of the civil Ka versions ?
Hope so
9:59 Is there an APU atop, or is the extra intake/exhaust just for cooling the gearbox?
It's the AI-9 APU
I sincerely hope ypu are doing well at this difficult time Sir. I hope you can find way to produce and share content very soon in a world at peace ✌
What's that thing on top that looks like a third engine?
The cooling system I guess.
I bet that is the Main Gearbox cooler...

For a new helicopter... It looks more like something developed in the 1960s.
They have limited money can't throw around like the f 35

Russians make extremely reliable machines. This helicopter looks darn tough and reliable. Why not build those instead of arms. Please leave Ukraine alone nobody wants war :(
Kinda sad to know that it's mostly gonna be used to the benefit of oil companies.
Why do you think so? Record oil supplies to Europe from Russia suggest the opposite) You don't have to tell people that you're buying oil from Russia if you can just buy it from third countries. Profit
Unfortunately all of Russian aviation industry is in the shit now … not good having Putin !

Amazing what a bright orange paint job and a new pointy nose will do to the looks of this helicopter. I have always found Russian designed and made helicopters fascinating because of their very individual very Russian look and design. And many of them are very first rate for the missions they are intended to perform.
Great video as always.
Slightly disappointed on hearing Flight Of The Valkyries and seeing a helicopter that the scene wasn't more dynamic.
load floor looks (nearly) flat! an Mi-17 revolution. Why no mention?
Sky does it well, very well 💯
Great work love all your videos! You should do a video, keeping with the original jet theme, of the North American Sabre liner! I feel like it is overlooked and one of the only original jets in service today with a more than interesting history. (My video suggestion) keep up the great work!
