      We love to hear the sound of their whistle in the area. Hopefully that sound will return to Minehead next year.

    What a stroke of luck you were able to land that ride,not knowing about the stoppage this year. I can only imagine what the tracks look like now! When the railway starts up again,it will have to be remembered that the wild life may have forgotten about the trains,and animals could be on the track. Very glad you made this film,excellent footage,and running commentary.

    • @ADMIRALSCORNER
      @ADMIRALSCORNER  4 года назад +2

      Yes that was fortunate thanks to the kindness of the DMU driver who has volunteered on the railway for many years. If you care to look through my recent videos you will see I have covered all the WSR stations and the track conditions now. Efforts are being made at last to clear things up by a few volunteers, although I fear overgrowth will return before trains start running again which currently is not expected to be this year.

    Thank you for a great video. Travelled this line many times as a child (I'm 65 today) when it was under British Rail. I had a grandparents in Taunton and an uncle in Minehead. Never appreciated then what a great time it was. Stayed a few times in Blue Anchor as well.

    • @ADMIRALSCORNER

      Everyone is certainly missing the railway not running this year because of the virus problems. Lets hope we can get back to normal perhaps at Christmas?

  • @edmundcarew7235

    This three video series must be among the best that Mike has recorded.
    I agree that seeing the climb out of Watchet was interesting.
    Loved the cross at Blue Anchor.
    Great that passengers joined or alighted at most stations.
    From more recent videos, there may not be as many weeds between the rails now.
    No doubt not a single volunteer or passenger knew what would 'hit' the railway (like all worldwide!) from about February 2020. Ignorance sometimes can be bliss.

    That brings back memories from the distant past, when it was possible to sit behind the driving compartment and enjoy a forward view. You were lucky to meet up with a driver who was happy to let you film. A big thank you to both you and the driver for sharing this fascinating view of the line.

      @@ADMIRALSCORNER Its nice to know when a driver watches your videos, even better when he shares his view with your audience. I must get back to the WSR, it is one of favourites, especially as I travelled from Taunton to Minehead back in British Rail days.

      @@ADMIRALSCORNER I only had a little Kodak still camera back then, I wish I'd known at the time, that services were shortly to be withdrawn, I would have taken some pictures. It was on a Saturday, the train was 11 coaches long, there were no spare seats, from memory it was made up of various Swindon Intercity DMS. I believe the passenger numbers were linked to changeover day at Butlins.

    I've had a few rides like this, with steamies on the Llangollen Railway. 5 to be exact, my favourite being the 4th one in the cab of Foxcote Manor. The first time I was allowed to look inside the Driver's DMU cab, was on a cold and wet February day some years ago before Covid ruined everything. The rain came down very heavily, and no-one was bold enough to come along for the ride. No-one, that is, except me. I was allowed the look inside the Driver's cab, because I was the only passenger on board. It happened on the move between Llangollen and Berwyn, if my brain serves me correctly.
