The director, Robert Aldrich went on to direct her in "Hush, Hush, Sweet Charlotte" (which originally costarred Joan Crawford as well but who was replaced by Olivia de Havilland).

I found myself tearing up. Who doesn’t miss the late, great Bette Davis? She was so smart, saucy, sure of herself; a great role model for women. “I’d kiss ya but I just washed my hair!” (One of her funniest lines.) They interviewed a host of famous actresses, and several said she was their favorite actress, the one they emulated. I always thought she was uniquely gorgeous, too. They don’t call them “Bette Davis eyes” for nothing. Remember the song?

She did not deserve that end. Yes... She made a mistake. However, she tried to make amends. She shouldn't have said she saw him. She didn't see him. She was wondering why the dog didn't bark, and she had just experienced a guy demanding money from her for someone that had nothing to do with her and him being pissy about it. Yes she did not give him the money out of jealousy, but she was under no obligation to help him. She had already paid him for two weeks of services and he came and demanded yet another week's pay! He did not even ask her nicely for the money for his fiancee. He was a bum. I cannot blame her for thinking it was him that stole from her.
She made an assumption that was based on real information about him. Yes he lost a year and yes his fiancee died and that is horrible, however, if her situation was really bad she was going to die regardless of him receiving the money or not. His fiancee's death, is not on Bette Davis' character. She apologized and she tried (if we believe her) to get him his job back and she gave him $500! He makes $70 a week. At the time, $500 would have allowed him to move on financially from this job into another town, but that is not what he wanted. Why even go back to work there? Clearly he just wanted revenge and didn't realize how much of his own attitude led to his problems.
Once her body is discovered, guess what? He may run, but he cannot hide. No one is stupid, not even the detective that was grossed out by her behavior, he will know he did it. The media will assume there may be an alleged connection. If there is fingerprint testing at the time, he doomed himself to a life long imprisonment or death penalty because he was angry at her. He was angry at her because after giving him two weeks' worth of money, he came in, was upset about his fiancee, was rough and unpleasant to the person he was asking for money from, and couldn't understand why she would think it was him that robbed her.
It was a good couple of episodes. Very enjoyable. I guess the lesson is to not make it obvious to men who work for you, especially if they are younger than you, that you are attracted to them. Don't encourage their flirting either. Also do not flash your money around. Don't walk in dark areas late at night. Be truthful about your account if you are a victim of a crime. It was appropriate to mention what had happened with the young man, that she found it odd that her dog didn't bark at a stranger, but she should have been truthful, that she did not see the assailant, she didn't hear his voice and couldn't determine if it was someone she knew.

Yeah but he better have taken Vanessa w/him and dropped her somewhere safe! Who knows how long she'd have been all alone w/a dead body and no one to feed her! Little Vanessa was a victim!💓🐕💓

She's what I call an actress , the so called actresses of today are nowhere close to miss Davis she was captivating even as a small boy I caught a glimpse of her on television she was like a magnet , I just simply had to sit down and watch her , I think the movie was called dark victory , and then me and my cousins where switching the only three channels we had back in the day no remote control and we stumbled upon what ever happened to baby Jane Hudson , even though the character of baby Jane was scary but also funny ,

With all that happened before, it made sense to her that it was him. He did not even ask her if she was ok. He showed no concern for her. His attitude was bad from beginning to end. The only mistake she did was say she saw him. She did not. She tried to make amends, she tried to help him and she actually apologized and explained what happened.

I don't know why there would be a need to make nasty comments regarding a pet and its owner, such as this character's. Just because you don't understand the bond and the love doesn't mean it's not real. The fact that some people find a pet to be a safer relationship certainly doesn't require your acknowledgement, and definitely doesn't deserve your scorn.
