How can you support the fact identity politics enter 40k lore?
Noone complaining is against women but giving in in feminist ideas of forced agendas is a huge mistake.
Do you support the idea the emperor is gender queer, because his psychic powers enable him to let people see a different person?
Changing the lore for new models is 1 thing like rogal dorns or centurions. You may like it or dont. Changing the lore for politics and influence is infruriating. Thats what the problem is.
I dont get why woke feminists can not fathom the idea that women and men are unique and have their own preferences and advantages.
Btw regarding "gatekeeping" in my gaming group people like to play with me because i am having fun regardless if i loose or win. Being a good sportman and being chill is definitely one of my strong suits.
PS: i am fully for letting people do with their lives as long as it doesnt interfere with someone elses.
That includes all kinds of things that should remain private to any person. And even when known i dont care. Just to make that clear before people come at me for being whatever.
Please don’t conflate companions with being “friends”. Your fan theory is based on the lore. The reaction to this has to do with the change that was made, the obvious way it was said in a way that does not address why it is happening, and opening the door to more potential, let’s face it, trouble making. What’s next? Need more Hindu symbolism in the Inquisition?

You dont have arguments on why it is identity politics is the issue because plastic golden women make no snese. You are just overreacting and rather think from what your perception of identity politics is, rather then what politics actually is.
Stop complaining, start reflecting. Consider your own perspective to be wrong first, and your ability to rationalize and reason will evolve for miles.

One custodian hide inside the palace for 20 years, curled up in some dark forgotten corner of a hidden passage probably so that he could sneak into the throne room. They might call it the blood games but they do not play games
It's also a whole thing to be a victor of the blood games. They say "ok, you've exposed this issue, now we know to shore up our defenses, it's a whole ass honor for you". I *want* to say I understand the custodes don't kill each other but who cares about humans, there's kind of an understanding among the Custodes that if the custodes trying to kill the emperor would've gotten you, you play dead/whatever. For instance on who cares about humans, all the humans who went along with Custodes Ke$ha got executed for blind faith/loyalty, but the guy who tipped off about the blood game plot was rewarded.
Now, they are called the blood games for a different reason.

@@redschafer7804 The point of the blood games is to prove that a method is viable. Kesha's current blood games plan took 3 years, and her monologue notes that if the cyclone missile were delivered it would *in theory* detonate. She *wants* to achieve her victory in the blood games, not kill the emperor. Because it is the duty of all Custodes undergoing the blood games to come as close to being able to kill the emperor as possible. I'd encourage reading the story, not someone's summary. I also note I was actually wrong about the fate of the humans. Only the ship master would be effectively killed - turned into a servitor. The rest were merely punished before being returned to duty.

The Emperor's plan, as far as I understand it, was that he would use the transhumans (Space Marines, Primarchs, Custodians) to eradicate all other species in the galaxy and reunite mankind under the banner of the Imperium, but wasn't planning for the transhumans to rule humanity, but rather, was planning to step down and let humanity rule itself. It's actually something that Malcador disagrees with, given how quick to corruption normal humans are, and he wanted the Emperor to continue to rule.

The custodians “play fighting” can last literal decades as a custodian hides waiting for the perfect moment to attempt an assassination on the emperor, the main reason they do this so seriously once caught they can remove / prevent the route used by the custodian to shore up their defenses. One custodian got far enough to almost strike the emperor on the throne.
What happened to that Custodian? Did they kill him as part of the training?
I'm always exasperated by these lore timescales that just pick big numbers to sound cool without any real respect for lengths of time.

Sisters of Silence would have been better. Female custodes are unnecessary and even detrimental to the setting.

Main problems that people seem to have with the change:
1. The reason for the change
2. Pretending that there wasn't a change
3. Pretending that the people who are against it are a vocal minority who shouldn't be respected, whilst kowtowing to an even louder minority and making the change in the first place.
4. Pretending that people against the change hate women or are bigoted.
5. Signalling that a desire for a male only faction/army etc is immoral.
People who throw this big of a fit over women shouldn't be respected, though.

What's funny is that when I was initially reading that short story, I was assuming it was going to turn out that the 'she' was actually a Callidus assassin that was working for a custodes. That way they could actually remove and replace some custodes without having to kill them.
Which makes much more sense in the long run. Imagine a shield captain 'hunting down would be assasins' with his squad only to lead them in ambush so he could replace them with imposters. He could even use the callidus to replace himself to test if he could fool his subordinates.
Beyond those types of tricks, how in the eff can a custodes, even with out the armor and weapons hope to move around without being noticed.

You’re missing the point for why people are mad about this. One, it was lazy and the retcon served no point. Two, when questioned on it, they lied about it by saying there were ALWAYS Femstodes despite 30 years of lore that disagree. They then started blocking people who called them on their lying.
Also, we’ve seen what the DEI agenda (which is most likely why this is happening) does in destroying franchises. Look at the comic book industry, Star Wars, the MCU, Lord of the Rings: RoP, etc.
GW is killing the grimdark and inserting 2020’s political BS and we’re not amused because we’re tired of it.

like i left star wars for warhammer cause i got tired of being given the finger for being a fan of a franchise i loved and grew up watching and seeing it get destoryed and no longer be the star wars i love and this is kinda how it started in the beginning but we were like fine and welcoming at first and over time you notice things that you didn't see before but once again like i said there is a right way to introduce these new Custodes but saying they always been around is the wrong way to go about it
I think the disclusion of woman custodes was just as lazy. There was never a good reason for it, so theres no real reason to make a big deal about changing it in my opinion.

I've seen a lot of people accusing others of sexism, and it actually really irritates me. It's reductive and more often and not, inaccurate. The problem isn't that there are Custodes that are women. The problem is that GW is spitting in our damn face and made a huge mistake with how they introduced them. Actively spewing bullshit about lore that has been established canon for *years*, for the sake of pandering, instead of giving more in-depth lore about the Sisters of Silence and the Sisters of Battle. I firmly believe that if they introduced them as something new to the universe like the Primaris were, it would have gone down *much* better.
Seems more like they hit a nerve with you than anything. Make introspect on why that is.

I never really got the female representation thing that comes up when some media gets popular that stars big buff male characters. I think good gatekeeping extends to the concept that if you don’t actually engage in this hobby, you really don’t have a say about it.
It would be like me having a say about how people should cosplay. I don’t cosplay, so my opinion on it doesn’t actually matter, nor should it.
Warhammer IS for everyone, everyone that has an interest in it at least. If you have an actual interest in the game/setting, than it’s for you. But if you just see something that should change to fit your sentimentality, then it really isn’t for you. And there’s nothing wrong with that. Go find a different setting/game that more aligns with your interests.
40K and Warhammer in general shouldn’t have to change for you to have fun with it. And if you’re finding that you’re not having fun with it, it’s simply not for you.
It could be fun seeing the Custodes teaming up with Guilliman to bring about the Emperor's plan.

Maybe it's making something official vs. something personal. Like fans don't seem to mind it if it's someone's personal project or lore, but they do seem to care if something is made official.

My main armies are Daughters of Khaine and a custom female Space Marines chapter (who are mostly just SM with helmets but some occasional headswaps) which I'm getting a lot of flag for. I've always like the Sisters of Silence but that's not a full army & I don't enjoy male miniatures that much. Now I'm completely hyped, I love the character Kesh (loving Morathi was what made me start DoK and for me into WH/AoS) and yes, now I'm going to have a glorious golden banana army.
I think people should be allowed to make their minis any gender they want within the lore and not be faction-locked into Sororitas or something.

it is rumoured that one of the 2 "missing primarchs" is indeed in their allocated room there.
How is this a welcome change exactly? this shits on all the previously established lore of the custodes being a brotherhood of demigods. The Emperor calling them "These Men" and them being recruited only from the firstborn sons of the noble clans of Terra etc.

The objections to female Custodes are as follows:
1) It contradicts the lore. 40k fans famously hate retcons - especially ones which change decades of lore.
2) It doesn't make sense to recruit females when males, biologically, make better fighters. If you want the best recruits, you will _always_ choose males over females.
3) This shits on the SoS in particular, and other female factions more generally.
4) This was clearly an agenda-driven political move on GW's part. The change was made for "Woke" reasons, not to improve the lore or sell toys. People don't want real-world issues to tamper with their favourite fictional worlds. We've seen that happen to other franchises, and we don't want it here.
5) It ruins the complimentary, "buddy cop" synergy of the all-male Custodes and the all-female SoS.
6) The way GW handled all this was overall pretty dreadful.
7) GW kicked the hornet's nest of controversy for seemingly no reason. It doesn't really improve the faction at all, and, again, the SoS arE RIGHT THERE, GUYS! C'MON! THEY'RE SO COOL AND YOU'VE DONE NOTHING WITH THEM!
Things which aren't true:
1) "40k fans are bigots who hate women in 40k." This isn't true, as is evident in fans badgering GW to update the SoB years ago, and a lot of 40k fans are now middle-aged and happily married.
2) "40k fans just don't like new people in the hobby." Again, untrue. If you've ever sincerely asked a Warhammer nerd to explain Warhammer, they will be so excited to do so.
3) "It's only men complaining." No, there are female voices in the community who also dislike this lore change, for the same reasons as above.
1. And it never made this kind of stink, also it was introduced over a year ago in Echoes of Eternity and no one gave a shit
2. This is just literal sexism. Like it is amazing how quickly and openly you can be a bigot and expect to be taken seriously
3. SoS isn't a faction, and SoB has multiple male or mixed gendered units
4. No, it wasn't. Not everything is a statement, it is literally always to sell more models
5. No, it doesn't
6. Yes, but this is how they handle retcons they shouldn't be surprised
7. They didn't, they published a story in a codex that got leaked, were asked a question on twitter, gave their usual retcon response, and got the most free advertisement they could've asked for

1) I don't understand your objection. There weren't any female Custodes in Echoes of Eternity, or any other significant lore changes that I'm aware of.
2) It's not sexism to say that men are bigger, stronger, tougher, more aggressive (etc.) than women. That's just biological fact - something reinforced today by the fact that women can't pass the tests to get into modern special forces units. It's not bigotry; it's an acknowledgement of cold, hard truth.
3) SoB is a subfaction - and one with plenty of scope for expansion which the fans would appreciate. No, there are no mixed or male units in the Adepta Sororitas, although there are in the Ecclesiarchy. These are different things.
4) Yes, it is a statement, because there are no new models. This "Woke" crap has been happening across the media landscape for the last decade; I have seen over a dozen other major franchises fall to DEI bollocks. I don't want that here. It _will_ be the downfall of the hobby, as surely as it has been the downfall of Star Wars, Marvel, LotR, Star Trek, and so on. That's why fans are kicking up such a stink over it, and why culture warriors like you are fighting back so hard.
5) Yes, it does. If that's the extent of your objection, we're going to be arguing this point for a while.
6) Who shouldn't be surprised? And no, GW has definitely handled retcons better than this in the past. You don't change decades of fundamental lore in a short story, then try to gaslight your fans with a tweet. That's a really bad move.
7) No, they did. Again, fans were expecting this sort of crap for a while. The activist crowd have been pushing for "female Space Marines" (Custodes fall into the same essential category) for years, _PURELY_ because "muh diversity and representation" reasons, and not to improve 40k according to its own logic, or even to sell models. We knew this was coming. We knew GW was going to do something like this eventually, to appease the Woke mob. That's why the fandom was so quick to mobilise against it.

In all honesty, I believe what pissed most people off was not the female custodes part by itself. I believe this "there were always female custodes," coupled with the fact that it may take away from the sisters of silence, who are the OG female part of the custodes army, in conjuction with the fact that most companies nowdays throw politics for the sake of politics (and let's be honest, the 40k universe is definitely not the most politically correct fictional universe 😂 ) is what created this whole thing.
I mean, 40K had a lot of retcons, a good example from the old days, Leman Russ being a general in the Imperial army and the space marines not being transhuman super soldiers, but elite humans with power armor. No one batted an eye for the retcons that actually did more good than bad in the setting.
My personal opinion on the female custodes is a bit in the middle. I can see a way to bring them to existence lore wise, unlike space marines, who we know how they are created and why women can't be space marines. We still don't know how custodes are created yet. However, I do believe that this would take away from the sisters of silence. With all that said, I lean more towards the unnecessity of their existence. We don't need more badass women in an army where extremely badass women who would make psykers scream their soul out and slay deamons with their swords already exist. It brings nothing better to the lore.
Conclusion: Does it make a huge difference? No, as there is no lore that says why they can't exist. Was it necessary? Again, no, as they may take away from the already cool females of their army.
I think that in most training for space marines the humans do often die, or get wounds that put them on the edge of death, but the medics are able to bring humans back from the dead because they have such a simple genetic makeup

We can't know for sure, but the 1st scenario seems so much more likely. The problem is not that they are female but what it represents. Now that GW is going places with the Amazon deal and a collaboration with Call Of Duty, there is a chance for Warhammer 40k to go mainstream and that means it might need to be adapted for "modern audiences" and for a wider public. All well and good until you look around and see what happened to Star Wars, where "the force is female" and Marvel where they wanted to have more than half of their leading super heroes be female which gave us female Thor, female Black Panther, female Iron Man and female Captain America. There is no problem with female super heroes, what is not good is that they can't or won't come up with something original for women and instead change what's already stablished to try to appeal to a part of the population that couldn't care less and will not care more.
We already have Battle Sisters and Sisters of Silence which in my opinion, their models are better than the Custodes' and their lore is more interesting with them being all blanks.

Warhammer lore is almost more important than the game. When GW just ignores the lore and proceeded how they did is what upset most people. Most people wouldn't have been upset if they just created believable lore to bring them in. But the gaslighting is upsetting.

@5:13 Not so much lore, but when a company doubles down on FOMO, makes it difficult to get things you want and keeps cycling rule books in order to keep pushing the sales of model sprues. That's the bigger issue and the reason I dropped 40K entirely last year.
I don't even think of the initial GW response as "a lie". It's a response "within Lore" as it were. It would have been a lie if the response was that female Custodes have always been written into the game/rules or had actual representation within the Lore previously. But this wasn't that.
However it should be be pointed out that as of the 9th Ed Codex female Custodes were a possibility even if not outright confirmed. No one appears to have picked up on this at the time - possibly because there was no actual clarification and they could just "head canon" it away. Mostly though it seems those who are really kicking off and causing such a fuss are just looking for another stick with which to stoke "Culture War" talking points and don't really care about the game or the lore in general.

For the past several years, GW has followed a policy of not providing rules or lore for models that they do not currently sell. This is, apparently, a response to the court's ruling in the Chapterhouse trial a decade ago, which determined that if a unit is described in the rules or the lore, but GW does not offer a model, that creates an opportunity for third-party miniature manufacturers to create models for that unit and label them as such. I'm not a lawyer, so I'm not going to argue the fine points of rulings in that case, but we've all seen that GW has dropped older units from codices as their models were taken out of production. My point here is that *if* GW has chosen to mention female Custodes in their codex, even if it's just in a lore section, they almost certainly have at least one female Custodian model in the pipeline. They likely anticipated the kerfuffle likely to ensue over the introduction of a female Custodian, and decided to hold that model back for the initial release of the Custodes codex, but I fully expect a Custodes kit that includes female models, or at least female heads, soon--probably before Christmas.
So the plan is we make and copyright a model before them and have monopoly over femal Custodians
Custodes are one of the few factions without a bespoke Kill Team set. Maybe that's in the pipeline and they'll have female head options.
@@TheLordofMetroids Oh, good call! That would be an excellent place to do it. As for headswaps vs. full models, I look to the Stormcast from AoS, the golden warriors on that side. They have a sizable female minority among the figures--especially the characters--and they are full-body models. They can get away with headswaps on the Votann, who are generally squatty folk in power armor or trench coats, but I really would prefer full female sculpts for Custodes.
100% correct on everything you said, but i disagree with your proposed result part.
The "female custodes" has been made to appease Amazon for the new 40k TV series, as they wanted a female character in power armour who was not "lesser" than a Space Marine, so they would not accept SoB or SoS characters and actually wanted a female Space Marine. GW knew the deathsign if they did that, and so instead relented and compromised to a female Custodes.

@@twenty-fifth420 BlackRock and Vanguard most likely. BlackRock's CEO has gone on record saying that "you have to force behaviors." Those two push DEI very hard, and are listed in the top individual shareholders for GW.

Gabs and Jayne were not Space Marines. They were Sisters of Battle. The tabs said "sister," and the Adepta Sororitas were in the Rogue Trader book in 1987 (year before the minis came out). They were also part of the Adventurers line, not the Space Marines line.
They were totaly not Sisters of Battle. The Sister Sin is something different.

The artwork shows Sister Sin shooting Brother Vermillion of the Rainbow Warriors, and the writeup discusses the Sororitas confronting even the Astartes in their vigilance. There is no doubt whatsoever that the artwork depicting Sister Sin is about the Sororitas.
Furthermore, both Gabs and Jayne bear the same pauldron iconography as Sister Sin, the minis came out the year after the artwork, and the sprue tabs of both say "Sister."
Sister Sin was clearly not something different from Gabs and Jayne, and they were clearly all members of the Sororitas.

The Internet didn't go up in storm about their being Female Custodes - it was the fact that there is NO LORE at all for it ever. They already had a Female all force, which worked closely with the Custodes - the Sisters of Silence. They are cool and a unique group. When are we going to get Brothers of Silence?

I'm sorry but a lot of the online alt right youtubers are going nuts about them going "woke" by introducing women and retconning. I watched a few videos to gauge reaction and not many of them actually mentioned no backing lore.

Saying that there has always been female Custodes is total BS - not a single piece of lore to back it up when in fact there is tons of Lore that proves the opposite. All Custodes are Sons of Nobles from Terra, they are a BrotherHood, etc - all written in the Lore. If GW wanted to introduce Female Custodes, which I still think there is no reason too because the Sisters of Silence play that role well already, then they could have created new Lore to introduce them.

@@alexanderfielding Comparing the Custodes, an established faction with decades of Lore, vs the Leagues of Votann which are basically still new is not a good comparison. The major issue is that GW is just destroying old Lore without even giving proper reasoning for it. I would think it would be just as wrong if suddenly GW was like "There have always been Men in the Sisters of Silence." It just doesnt' make sense and there is no rational reasoning for it beyond just pan handling.
I always took, and I believe most people did, the Sisters of Silence to be the female arm of the Custodes. GW should have instead expanded upon them and made them more paramount IMO. Right now with the massive Warp storm through-out the Imperium the Sisters of Silence could really have had an interesting story written up to bring them to the forefront with their Custodes brothers.
I think the only reason its an issue is because of the recent push for more 'DEI' content being added to games/content. While it may not matter in 40k it has become problematic in other games as it usually lowers the quality of an already mediocre game. It seems to me that companies have been adding 'DEI' content without putting any effort into it to make it meaningful. So as gamers we see any effort into making our games/content 'woke' as an empty way to pander to people that typically don't even enjoy the games and content. At least that's how it seems to me.
The problem is that this is becoming a common practice to use existing story lines to fit some narrative instead of writing new story lines. It just panders to the lowest common denominator which doesn't drive business. GW has constantly changed the lore, that's fine, but just lying to fit the times is pathetic.

@@DannyQM Over the years they have definitely left certain details vague to say the least, then write more detail at later dates. Which is fine. These units specifically though have a few key details that explain why they are male. Either way, it really doesn't effect the game, it more just shows the lack of commitment to existing lore which is disappointing to say the least.

Some of the issue is the how they were introduced and the reason behind them being added.
Much like the problems people had when Primaris were added not too long ago.
It is kind of insulting considering Custodes aren't made like Astartes. They don't work based on implants, rather each one is genetically engineered from the ground up to reach their full potential. I don't know if they realize this but the idea that an evolved women is a man, is kind of insulting to women. But I really don't think they put much actual thought into it. Hence why there are no models. Also with all the gendered weirdness coming out of the US I shouldn't be surprised.

I'm bothered by 2 things. Normally we get big important lore updates in full length novels. Not a single offhanded twitter post. And secondly we have 2 women only factions in the Sisters of Battle and Sisters of Silence but NEITHER OF THEM have gotten consistent updates for their books or models. If GW really wants to be inclusive, THEN ACTUALLY DO IT. OTHERWISE ITS JUST VIRTUE SIGNALING.
Like you said, the whole point of all this is to have fun. What I don't get is why something like a Custodes would want to identify as a man or woman. They're basically created in a stew of genetics. What I think is happening is a marketing game by GW. They want to sell more models to women and this was their way. That's obvious. The negative reaction though is grounded in our contemporary thinking of "man or woman?". What I think a lot of folks are afraid to talk about is the contemporary differences genetically between a man and woman, and how that plays out in a very physical profession. There's a reason why Navy Seals, PJ's, etc don't have females. They do not compete with men at high levels of athleticism. It's not a knock on women, it's just how our genetics plays out. But that's a contemporary mindset. Does the extra X chromosome still have this effect after a Custodes genetic stew was completed? Probably not. I think you have folks who are upset over the contemporary mindset of genetics (and afraid to admit it), and those folks who are upset at the nonchalant dismissive way in which GW pivoted long standing lore. They should have fleshed out this change in a more tangible, meaningful way that everyone would have enjoyed. Saying "it's always been this way", kind of breaks an entire system of lore. If that's the rule now, it creates a lore system where anything can change at any time. That creates detachment from the fans in a universe they may have been loving for years/decades. That's a good reason to be upset.

What i think is that this is really pointless and performative. If they wanted to introduce a female custodian, they could have just said, "There aren't enough firstborn sons of the nobles to replenish from, so we took a firstborn daughter" instead of there have always been woman custodians. Noone is mad because they are women, people are mad because how many lazy this is and how much lazy writing is getting prevalent now.
There are absolutely people mad because they are women. I have seen many comments in the Custodes subreddit and twitter about how men are superior and how a woman custodian wouldn't fight as well.

I'm going to disagree with the evolution of lore being a positive. Consistency and continuity is the lifeblood of a long-running series like this.
When you alter that, you get products like Marvel's Ultimates and the New 52. Some elements have endurance and staying power, most will not.
By now, they've gone the route of the Image universes and 2099. They've proven themselves fads.
I preferred Necrons as the Terminator clones they once were. Yes, they lacked individual personality, but 40k had space for alien menaces that were truly alien. Different from our understanding and experiences as sentient races. In the past we had 7 flavors of aliens and only two of them were primal, elemental, or without individual consciousness.
Now it's just the Tyranids. Necrons were the choice for people who preferred a Skynet hivemind to alien wasps.
The release of new technologies and Primaris marines contradicts one of the prime tenets of the story: 'Forget the promise of technology and science, for so much has been forgotten, never to be relearned.' The theme is a part of the setting, and the setting is the only thing that makes 40k unique, special, and enduring.

My favorite thing about the setting is that it was designed to be a medium for you to create stories and characters, literally whole armies from within the general framework of the stuff they provided, like how the Arbites have been in the lore since Rogue Trader and yet have never really had an official army list, unless you count necromunda warbands. They even have models, they could just do a PDF at any time. I stopped being able to afford their minis round when 6e came out, and back then the "lore" was less narrative and more dressing for the setting, so I still maintain the old school sensibility of "if you modeled it, made a little narrative for it, and you wanna play it, it's cannon at our table, bonus points if it's cool. So like, space marine battle sisters. Sure. Open topped chimera with mortar inside, looks cool to me, Rak'Gol are the favorite Xenos? Mine too, let's hack out some rules for them and get to kitbashing. I'm working on a "Grimdark future" style homebrew that works off of Bolt Action rules to scratch my 40k itch because I was able to splurge a little and get a good bit of BA stuff for cheap, the hobby continues even if they change the lore, cos by the THRONE: so do I.
And I'm using the Dark Heresy timeline anyway, so that's 813m41, this allows me to avoid the primarus, which are fine, I just don't like them, and custodes ladies doesn't exactly contradict the lore in the first place so... On the very very off chance my inquisitor warbands should encounter some of the companions of the big E then I guess it won't be a total boys club.
That sounds incredibly cool, I love the Astra Militarum because it allows me to pretty much throw any kind of kitbashed minis and make up lore, they don't even need to be consistent because it's confirmed sometimes differents cultures have to be put in the same squad due to the lethality, so you can have anything as long as they're just little guys
@@ClemiHW I got a lot of milage out of the 3e Guard codex regiment generator, and I love the TTRPG Dark Heresy so it was really really awesome when Only War came out and had essentially the same regiment builder but for making your guardsmen player characters. I'm with you, guard is probably favorite outside of dark eldar, cos there's just so much you can do with them. I really like INQ28 which is a brilliant fan made game that sort of combines Inquisitor with Dark Heresy, and one of the big things there is the kitbashing, so I wanna do some WW2 looking troops and have the homeworld be a place with a (ahem) world war going on, which gives me the excuse to model some of the monsters from return to castle Wolfenstein, and I reckon a rogue Inquisitor is behind all the necromancy and mad science stuff, so those are the "not Germans" and my other minis are red army so they could be straight up Valahallans or I'm prolly gonna do something a little different with them. The battle of Kruggrad/Krugelstadh awaits!

That's not what gaslighting is. Gaslighting would be if they said "no, back in the 8th edition codex we said women could be Custodes, you misread it." Their tweet was just them telling people what the new lore is post-retcon.

TBH I don't find it bad to have female custodes. What I find really infuriating and disrespectful is how GW decided to comunicate this addition. They are gaslighting their customers and treating us as gullible idiots. I like WH40k because of how comically and atrociously bleak, dark and gritty it is, and as long as GW keep it like that, it's ok. If they want to retcon some stuff, have the decency to at least acknowledge it is a retcon and be transparent about it.
Anyway, as long as the Salamanders keep being the altruistic (as altruistic as you can possibly be in 40k fashion) badasses that they are, I'm fine. Will still be collecting and making my Salamander army.
The people freaking out over this being a retcon were real quiet when the Custodes got retconned to suddenly be able to wear their armor again.
The same people that didn't mind the retconning from leather pants to power armor, retconning 300 to 10,000, retconning in jet cycles and hover tanks, retcon in additional roles and duties for the custodes now have an issue with retcons

Here's the thing. A retcon by itself would be understandable. What they did with the "there has always been female custards" is gaslight us.
This is especially after years of specifically telling us they were all male and blocking all the writers from worrying any stories about any female custodes

You say that it is a small minority that is annoyed, but it really isn't. It seems like people are in two camps on this one, some hate the change, and others just don't care all that much. Why change something that so many fans don't like? One word stuck out from that quote you read that GW put out, 'diversify." Take your opinions to their logical conclusion. How diverse do we need it to be? Women are already represented and changing fundamental lore for nobody shows just how ready GW is to bend their knee.
the notion that the writers wanted to insert female custodies earlier on but the gw honchos decided not is a sketchy execuse. its never a good idea to come up with inseerts that has no strong rooted backstory
ADB wanting to do it is pretty consistent. He’s always writing female characters because he’s based. Not everything is a conspiracy, and you don’t need any reason to make a character a woman except you just want them to be one.

For Blood Bowl I found a miniature set of Nuns in Nun/Football garb I loved the look of. But I didn't want to play them as Amazons. I played them as just Humans, painted and modified them to fit the human team roles. Even modified an Ogre to fit the Nun theme and female for the Human team. 99% of the people I played were absolutely fine with that. Only ran into one ahole that said they can't be humans they have to be amazons. Even though the look had no bearing on the rules. This was the type of stupidity in gate keeping.

This is the reason why people think this retcon has been done from political reasons. Not to bring more to W40K. You can close your eyes and label others with different views or opinions. But tell me honestly what this change, changes for W40K? - nothing right? Lets compare it to Necron or other retcons.

One of the most respectef writer of BL have been saying the writers have been original planning to have female custodes since their last big lore rework more than 8 YEAR. and the only thing that stoped them is a now gone GW commercial who wanted them to focus on male to promote the models that where made for their release as a playable faction.

I do not pretend. I stated how it differs with other retcons. Its not my nonsense. I have been following lore, where do you think Necron retcon happened in newspaper? I accept that you dont want to see it. Sure they promote miniatures because they make miniatures in a first place, licencing of IP is like third in their revenue. If I as a writer want to do story from Harry Potter I would not force others to have Ron blond just because I think it would be better for me as a writer and representation of blond people. If you write something inspired or connected to a franchise, you should be able to do so without need to change narrative, story or aspects of characters and factions. I can not care less what one or second writer wanted.
Edit added: Authors of BL have to back this up otherwise if they spoke against it they get flagged by GW and BL would not be able to let blacklisted autors be there.

Crusaders are not a part of the Adepta Sororitas, but they are a part of the greater Ministorum umbrella that crusaders also fall under. Just like how nuns fall into the wider umbrella of the church, but you wouldn’t say priests are nuns.

My concern with female custodies stems from the tweet you mentioned coupled with the investment from Black Rock. That company involving itself in anything always spurs negative change. I'm hoping this is just a hiccup but black rock has a hand on the reigns now. So we'll just have to see.
Ive always appreciated changes in story lines or lore. To progress to an area that was new creating new stories new dynamics and new models. Heck in my game entirely new armies are created based on the Lore and meshing of old armies with new or something happening like a change to an entire culture based on the death of their Gods. Adds alot more flavor. Sometimes good sometimes bad but still there and not stagnant.
I have played 40k since it came out in 1987. GW has, since day one, retroactively changed lore. That is what they mean when they say there have always been female Custodes. There are a lot of weak human beings who are playing 40k right now. You can find them easily whenever something like this happens. They often self-identify by calling anyone who disagrees with them "tourists", people who don't live and breathe the lore.
The lore that GW continually contradicts.
It's such a pervasive thing that GW has written off their capriciousness with the lore as all being part of a huge body of lore that can't be fully comprehended by players.
And players have been fine with that.

Simple and factual answer:
its not mentioned because Spce Marines are sexless ie.e they have no interest at all, even on a biological level, for such things. They can, and have on many occassions, appreciate beauty and what the average human would identify as "attractiveness" though, in both men and women.
Meanwhile, gay relationships do exist in other factions just fine because... well, a surprise here... they are not biologically indoctrinated to be sexless!
Additional input that is not part of the "factual" answer and is hypothetical:
I'm sure if GW retconned Space Marines being sexless, it would have backlash and would inevitably lead to them introducing gay Space Marine relationships in the lore. But lets be honest here, would the backlash at reconning them being sexless be because of gender or sexual stereotype/ preference? Or would it be because it simply does not need to be retconned, as they are genetical enhanced super soldiers who have been designed, trained, enhanced and made for the sole purpose of fighting war and nothing else? One party would say it's because people are "phobic", whereas the normal, rational people in the world and hobby would realise that it is because it makes no sense to change it, other than if they are planning to appease somebody or something.
The main difference to the above reactions being: that the first party would be a hell of a lot more vocal about it against anybody from the second party who tried to say anything at all. Insults, threats, mocking, attempted censorship and cancellation for the simple words of "why was this change necessary in a Sci-Fi fantasy universe of war?"
