Thank you for your kind words my friend. I remember 4 years ago when I filmed this project that Tony (the presentator in this video) completely took me by surprise. I just scheduled an afternoon with him in the butterfly garden and when I arrived that afternoon he was fully prepared and had this whole thought through tour. Go visit them in Aruba they are magnificent people.
Yeah, the caterpillar doesn't break down into "genetic stew" in the chrysalis like you describe. While some cells may undergo apoptosis (which is totally normal, and occurs in all the other stages besides the chrysalis), many of them remain very much alive and continue to reproduce. On top of that, most of the original organ systems will remain largely intact, even though their exact structures fluctuate prior to eclosion.
Lorenzo Pacheco I am the documentary maker and not the spokesperson in this video as you directed that comment towards me. Even though your argument may be sound, Tony intended to explain this phenomena of apoptosis in not only a hypothetical but also in a subjective way as he is simply astonished by the whole process as he is with the metamorphosis stage. Whether he is 100% right could be up for debate, which gives you all the more reason to go visit him at the farm in Aruba. Thanks for watching!
He covered everything from eggs to caterpillar to butterfly. As well as their food and mating behavior. Very informative. :)

Camera constantly getting in and out of focus is hurting my brain.
How does the butterfly extend its proboscis? Does it blow air through it?
Butterflies don't have lungs to blow with. I think it's extended by muscles.
