How do you make the banana water? How long can you leave the banana peels in the water before it will go bad?
@@akplayer007 I looked on Google and found lots of info. Hope this helps until the Doctor is in!

Do the little starter pots have drainage holes?
@@oneball1926 Yes, they do. Here's the link to the video which shows how I make them ruclips.net/video/tJQpUPSV3As/видео.html

Not to even mention the genius methods that sets this channel far apart in a unique way from the deep pool of subpar channels out there. Can't even believe this is free information! Absolutely amazing work! Very happy I found this channel. Thank you.

Very nice. We in Romania are used to putting two peppers together. They support themselves better when they grow and have a higher production through cross-pollination. Anyway Bravo!!!!
You had me at the onions, but when I saw the pepper seeds in banana peels, I liked and subscribed.
Thanks, @tegoblue! 😊 Welcome to the family.
As Food prices increase, many people will find this very useful. Thank you.
you deserve many subscriber my friend. I have been gardening for many years and you teach me new techniques every video.

Thanks. I'm glad you're inspired by my work. 😊
I conducted an experiment when germinating pepper and eggplant seeds over the past few weeks, following this method. In a nursery flat, I planted one row of each variety in plain soil, followed by a row with banana peel. I covered it for the first week as described in the video. Additionally, I used a heat mat.
Results: germination of some varieties was better than others, but overwhelmingly the seeds without banana germinated better. There are only TWO seedlings in the whole tray that germinated in the banana rows. They do look healthy, but so do the other seedlings. I will continue to watch their growth and see how it compares to the non-banana plants.
I did do some research prior to the experiment, and there is a scientific basis for this method. I found several research papers that discussed ethylene gas as something that can help break germination in "some plants". Most plants mentioned were not things you would grow in the garden. I also think it's valid that the banana peel would help hold moisture by the seed and offer nutrients to the seedling, so these results were disappointing.
Caveats: I used seed packet seed and saved garden seed rather than seeds straight out of a fresh pepper. Overall pepper germination was not great and I'm hoping more might still germinate (one sprouted yesterday) but so far none of the pepper seedlings are from the banana rows. The two banana peel seedlings that sprouted were Black Beauty eggplant, which had 100% germination in the non-banana row. What needs to be fixed about this experiment? Seeds should have been planted in separate trays instead of rows. If it's the ethylene gas that affects germination, then the neighboring rows might have benefited from the gas while something in the banana peel might have directly inhibited the other rows. A follow-up experiment might include 3 trays: one with banana peel, one without, and one with banana on the side but not in contact with seedlings. It is possible my bananas were sprayed with something the seeds didn't like. Maybe washing bananas prior to peeling would be a good idea. It could also be down to climate (high desert, here) or even the variety or freshness of pepper seeds. I'll continue to experiment and suggest anyone else interested does the same and shares their info. The varieties I planted were Black Beauty eggplant, Rosa Bianca eggplant, Neimat's Batir eggplant, Chimayo pepper, Shishito pepper, and Pimento pepper. (The last two usually take a long time to germinate.)
All my best to Dr. Obi with many thanks for introducing this interesting method. (It clearly works for you!)
Wow! Thanks for sharing the results of your detailed method. I'm not surprised at your results since you used seed packets. I've also noticed that the method works best with fresh seeds. I don't know why it is so but it may probably have to do with increased dormancy in the dry seeds. The ethylene produced in banana peel is very small compared to the banana fruit itself so it may not be sufficient for dry seeds. Also, when using the banana peel, cutting it into pieces promotes faster break down to make nutrients available to seedlings faster. Thanks once again for sharing. Happy gardening.
@@dr_obisgarden Thank you. This does make sense! I'll have to try this method using fresh seeds. The only thing is that I can't get fresh seeds of the varieties I want to grow at the time I need to grow them. Maybe I'll add some standard jalapeños to the mix. Those are always available and I do use them on everything.
@Kate Wrath I find with the packet seeds they need to be kept moist, otherwise they don't sprout. If I plant with fresh seeds, I usually have better results. I have bell peppers and 3 different kinds of chilli peppers growing from fresh seeds.
I'm going to try the banana method with some chillies I bought today : habanero, Thai and cayenne.
I planted jalapeños from bought seeds and I kept them moist, watered twice a day (we are currently enjoying a very hot summer), and within roughly 30 days, I had flowers developing on my plants.. Hope this helps!
I heard that bananas are one of the most sprayed fruit in the world, even organic ones with stuff that stops them to rippen fast, stops em from going brown etc so maybe that has something to do with it as well??
Did you use organic banana?
love your reuse of bottles and water containers
Thanks. It saves money 💵😉!
Thank you man. Now can I grow chili without any trouble. Your video is comprehensive and easy. You are the best chili grower on this channel.😊
Thanks for your kind compliments 😊. Best wishes with your garden.
Such a nice show,I grow Tabasco peppers here in Florida, I have them year round, was told by a Mexican lady in California years ago to cut the peppers off the plant, believe me it works, have had the same plants for several years now, I cut them back during the winter months and bring them inside on cold nights, egg shells ground up fine is good for peppers too
Thanks for the insights. Peppers can actually be grown as perennials with the right care in the absence of diseases.
Just a little comedy here, I watched a mocking bird eating Tabasco peppers off one of my plants one morning, sure hope it knew what it was in for
Amazing video ! I have the urge to grow my own now
Better gardener than me using recycled bottles! Subscribed and liked sir!!!
Beautiful chillies well done. My chillies and peppers haven’t done much this year with the U.K. weather, but I will definitely try your hack with the banana peel next year, thank you 👍
Thank you for sharing this technique! I'm really excited to attempt it for myself very soon. Hopefully I can grow enough chilies to share with my neighbours ❤

BRILLIANT ! I'm doing it this way this year.
Thank you Dr, this is one of the best gardening videos I’ve seen. You’ve won my subscription and i look forward to watching many more. I imagine that my conditions in Australia will suit this method also.
Thanks for subscribing. Welcome to the family. I'm sure you can do this in Australia. Happy gardening.
Banana trick is great including peels in water. Thank you.
I can confirm that this method works in Melbourne Australia, while using seeds from fresh red chilli. almost every seed germinated. It did not work with dry chilli seeds though. i will try again with dry seeds. However, i used transparent storage box, instead of a plastic bag.
@@4w1y great to know it worked for you. Not sure about the dry seeds though. Generally dry seeds would take longer to germinate. I'll also give it a try.
@@4w1y thanks for replying I’m in WA. I have no trouble germinating chillies normally but thought I’d give this a try, no success yet but I’ve just put fresh capsicum 🫑seeds in with the banana peels 🤞🏼. We don’t get frosts where I’m living so these can grow most of the year here.
Using a banana peel to help seeds germinate is mad genius.
I really will have to give this a try.
Cool! Thanks. Go for it!

Very educational video, you should do a short video of the solution you were using to spray your plants and the banana solution in case some people didn't get it.
Thanks, I'll work our something.
Dr Obi: This is simply marvellous. Forgive the unworthy suspicion that it is a whole lot more tricky & troublesome than you portray, though no doubt well worth the effort, IF one can persevere and succeed.
Thanks for your kind compliment. Wishing you the best in your efforts.
Oh Wow! I am excited to do this. I buy chili peppers (and bananas) every Friday, but this time I am not going to throw away the seeds and peels. It is winter here, and I am at 5000 feet so there is snow on the ground. I hope this will work indoors. But if a grow light isn't enough, spring will come again. Thank you!
My pleasure. Happy gardening.
Which country is that ? When heat hear in Nigeria is unbearable.
How did it go? I am wondering if this is possible indoors.

Great video! Very informative. Living in the midwest USA, I never would have thought of, or known about starting seeds on banana peels. Also, starting the seeds in recycled bottles is brilliant. You can poke them out by taking off the lid instead of destroying the container. Thank you!!!
My pleasure. Glad it was helpful!
After watching your vid i just sow hopefully it will grow like yours
Great! Happy gardening!
You did a fantastic job sir. The banana peel is the ticket to promote initial growth from the nutrients found in the peel!
From S Africa, love the simplicity. Great video, you have given me some great tips. I love growing chillies.
Not sure what compost slurry is. I am currently trying your technique for several varieties of peppers. Love these ideas and your results!
Probably adding compost to water, allowing to sit for a while (aeration is good if you can but not 100% necessary), then applying to plants. It looks like he applies the whole mix. Some people strain to make a tea.
@@KateWrath. I don’t have my own compost. So, do I buy a bag of this in a store and mix in water ? You see to know about this. I know nothing .
@@dizziechef9502 A good question, for there are many who would love to know the answer/s.
That liquid slurry is the banana peel soak in water for days I guessed.

So glad I came across your video, I love chili 🌶️ peppers and your presentation makes it look very simple and practical as to what containers used in planting and replanting the chilis, thanks a millions….see you new time for sure🙏👏.
I love peppers, and you gave a lot of great information. I can't wait to try this. Thanks for the valuable information. Subbed.
Glad that you found this useful. Thanks for subbing. Welcome to the family.
This is awesome. My brother, try planting 2 pepper plants per pot. They actually love growing together. God bless you.
If the container is big or if growing directly in the ground, it's okay to grow 2 together. However for a small container growing 2 plants together will result in rapid depletion of soil moisture and nutrients. You have to water frequently especially when the plants grow big. The number and size of fruits may suffer if you can't keep up...
@@dr_obisgarden Very true. I use 5 gallon buckets and plant 2 pepper plants. They do well, but as you said, required more attention on moisture and nutrients.
Beautiful Video and Technique. Will try.
Thank you! Cheers!
This gave me the idea to start my seeds in k cups. I usually transplant a couple of times to larger cups anyway. I can cut the bottoms off to push out when before removing. I wish I could find plastic bottles with the wide cap, the water bottles I have won't stand with the small cap. With the 9 and 6 hole trays, sometimes I'd have the tray taking space with just 1 or 2 very small seedlings and more than half of the mini tray empty. With the k cups, I can get rid of them as I transplant each.
Sounds great! Happy gardening.
Try a "Gatorade" or other sports drink bottle.
thank you for the great vid. lots of ideas with simple items
You are so welcome!
Love this! I had no idea that the banana peel could help break dormancy. Some chiles take more than a month to germinate under normal conditions, so this could be a huge time saver! What other kinds of seeds does it help to germinate?
I feel like regardless of helping or not, it immediately adds nutrients to the soil and plant within immediate reach. I cant imagine it wouldnt help any and all seeds?
yeah I grew ghost peppers one year and it took 45 days to germinate so I had to plant it late like late June didnt get a big crop so start your indoors peppers now! January or February if you live in a temperate climate so they will be big by the time you plant them outside in april and may
I living Los angles Ca and using this method with heat and it take me 3 day to germinate my hot pepper big thai hybrid which sale at home depot
@@UMadUCauseBad it depends. I use coffeegrind, bananapeel and egg shell as fertiliser. It depends on the plant's needs... Often it helps that the banana peel is always a bit moist and retains moisture for a while. Coconut peel does the same. I live in a much colder climate, sometimes I uuse toilet paper and wrap it in to make it speed up a little. With pepper seeds I use a little device that warms it up. It's about meeting the plant's needs - it will definitely not be the same for every plant.
Experiment a bit - or find out what's in bananapeel and check the needs of plants in scientific articles. I've looked in to stuff, but since my climate isn't your climate, results might vary... Heat is the biggest problem here... And moisture in the air...
For me, dunking a seed in water before I plant it helps a lot. Some seeds I put in the refrigerator. Others I need to freeze - to emulate winter. Some seeds won't germinate if I don't put them in the refrigerator for a month... In sand... (because nutrients will mess things up).
I hope someone has a list - but I suppose such people won't even bother to look at this video -.-
And like said, the list might not work in all climates, situations.
Mines took 3 days to germinate
Fascinating Sir, I'm going to try it. Thanks for the video.
Have fun!
This is really impressive and your explanation makes it look so simple. I'll try and replicate this on a larger scale in a few months time. I'm guessing these methods also apply to growing habaneros.
I've not tried it on habaneros but I think It'll work since they take slightly longer to germinate. I've used it with bell peppers but germination was delayed although the seedlings grew vigorously after germination. Happy gardening or farming!
@@dr_obisgarden thank you very much for your response.
I will try this amigo and keep you posted. Thank you 🙏
how do you deal with the stupid super tiny insects that look like white dots in the back of the leaves? that's been my biggest issue lately
thats lice, spray with water containing either lemon juice works, banana peels around the bottom, washing liquid also works i hear
