  • This was done in a little over 3 hours with 2B drafting pencil, nib tip pen with Higgins Indian Ink and then shaded with ink wash on 11" x 14" Strathmore Bristol paper.
This is a picture of pixies I did for my future Monster Manual for our table top game. I tried to be as authentic to myth as possible avoiding all pop culture nonsense. The legendary Kathrine Briggs says they are seldom above knee height and some depictions can fit in your palm. I went with about 1' tall to fit an average. She also says they always have red hair, round "short" faces, upturned noses, wide mouths and sharp or angled eyes and pointy ears. Their skin can be fair, green or blue. Some have wings and others are seen as old men. So I just made the females have wings and males have no wings, Gelfling style. And the "old" ones are just old pixies. She says they seldom wear clothes and when they do it's sparse, rags or maybe plants. I tried to adhere to an Arthur Rackham aesthetic as I think he is the quintessentially best fairy tale artist in history.
