Good question, semajdis, this is something that I've thought about and that has come up in personal conversations in the past, and as someone who has worked as an environmental geophysicist in the past I'm guessing you probably know my concerns with it, along with a few other things regarding scarcity based crypoto's. I'll think about this and keep my eyes and hears open for some data and if the opportunity presents itself I'll definitely try and put together a video for it... maybe I'll include it in a video I plan on doing regarding the problems associated with crypto's. Bitcoin miners are incentivesed to use this type of energy as its the cheapest cost for them. The banking industry uses way more energy and pollutes way more than bitcoin does.

One of the issues with a lot of crypto right now is that the majority (huge chunks) are in the hands of just a few people, so there is an artificial scarcity to them, very much like Diamonds, hence they are more collectables than currencies. With more ICO's we'll have a chance at more currencies, who knows, maybe some day we'll have a chychocrypto ;) As for the Simulation hypothesis, would be fun to make a video, talking about the glitches in the matrix and our pixelated reality. Great fear currently which can undo Cryptocurrencies is the age of Quantum computing. It is now possible to order these and operate it at home. Quantum computers are becoming more powerful each year, exponentially so. Each year there is an exponential growth of qubits being offered. Software APIs are offered to researchers and individuals where they can write their own algorithms and try it on a quantum cloud computer farm for free. And I bet the likes of NSA and other US antagonists of the world are decades ahead, and have even more powerful machines at their disposal, In secret. Bsically they can control the financial world of crypto at their leisure. I know it sounds like conspiracy theory or something, but I can't be that far off.
