Was such an honor to get to teach you how to fly! Mike, you were making us laugh so damn hard, tell your editor to play more of your jokes my friend! -Jesse Perkins
Man I hope I can make FF this year and come around the Whoop tent!
Tinywhoop ftw 🤌
How long ago was this filmed

With FPV you don't control the drone, you need to _become_ the drone.
This is FANTASTIC! Way to go Jessie Perkins for bringing this to Mike's attention, one of my favorites! OMG, Mike's response to that first flight, epically funny! It's like watching my dad all over again send it into the sky, to funny! Honestly, I think we have a new FPV'r in the community! Nice job GA crew, way to represent!!
Dude.. thank you so much for giving fpv some love on your channel! Our hobby is dying due to drones getting bad press. We get so much hate over the DJI pleebs flying in places they shouldn’t. Our drones don’t do that stuff, we have no interest in spying on you. We just wanna fly.
Jesse is such a great guy. When Mike says ever patient, he isn't kidding. So great to see Mike giving it a try!
Jesse!!!! What a great group of guys to show you the skies!!!!
Thanks chainsaw!!
Mike is like that one friend that keeps your cheeks sore from laughing all the time
That was an incredible day with some of the most iconic FPV Pilots in the world along side an incredible TV icon Mike Rowe. It was a pleasure to spend the day with everyone involved that day and of course Jesse did what he does best. He promoted FPV as the best sport and hobby known to man... and wo-man.
I love this soooo much!! Jesse P and Mike Rowe in the same place! I'm ecstatic!!
Long live FPV!! ❤
Thanks man!!! it was amazing!
As a drone racer and a kid who grew up watching dirty jobs this was a great video!
Hell yes Mike!! I've been watching you for years. That first interview and the perspective he had on the freedom of flight was spot on. It's incredible! Grab a set of goggles, a prebuilt tiny whoop, and learn some things!
Thanks dude .
Yay Mike! Welcome to the FPV drone side!
Jessie Perkins is a legend , good video to see!
Sneak appearances of WildWilly and Skitzo, too. Blast from the past.
@@swissfreek oh yeah this episode was packed with legends!
Thanks man!!!!
Man it was cold that day!! It was a blast meeting you Mike and your crew. Sorry I crashed out in the race.
Fpv and Mike Rowe in one video! Fantastic!
Mr Rowe, I believe you are a National Treasure buddy.
Forget the drones… This was a masterclass in _humility_ .
Mike learning FPV!! Awesome!!
I’m a simple person, I see FPV drones and Mike Rowe, I love the video.
Got to meet and chill with Jesse at International Open 2022 and you wont meet a more down to earth helpful awesome person in this hobby! So cool to see you dive into fpv Mike. Im rooting for you and hope to see more of you in the skies!
The Whoop Godfather himself Mr. Tinywhoop Jesse Perkins ... Whoop whoop 🙌🙌🙌👽🤟
So cool, this was like a blast from the past for me. Brought me back to when I built my first “tiny whoop” in 2017. All we had was brushed motors and not even an on screen display! Things have come soooo far in the 5 years or so since this was filmed. Would be amazing to see Mike Rowe revisit this today with some of the new stuff we have now.
How old is this?
@@smooth_ops2942This was filmed at around 6 years ago I’d say given the gear used in the video.
I cannot believe I'm watching Mike Rowe fly FPV.
Good stuff. Jessie is a great dude, and you actually had a number of great pilots there. Jonathon Davis, Wild Willie, not sure but I think I saw Stinger Swarm as well. Good to see those guys there!
thanks dude, yeah lots of the OGs
@@TinyWhoop no problem! We've met a few times at FliteFest and always respected you so much!
@@themajik1ive been to FFE 2015-23.
@@Kylejeepadventures I know who you are Kyle. I am sure you know who I am as well. LOL
Glad to have you at CCRC. Stop by again anytime!!
Aw, Mike! I saw in your completely blanked out expression that you’re going through what I’ve been going through, lately: that moment in time when you truly and absolutely have no idea what’s happening. Nothing is getting beyond your senses and into the interpretation portion of your brain, so that you finally understand what’s going on. AND you pretty much recognize that it won’t.
That’s amazing, new technology in an aging world.
This happens to me all the time, AND I’M YOUNGER THAN YOU! Also, because you’re an actor you could, potentially, be acting confused. If that’s the case then you deserve an Oscar!
I’m living a very happy life, and need very little, but this getting older business IS NOT for the faint of heart!
Take care, Mike! I’m with you on this!
Left is left, right is right, and ground is down...splat! I have enjoyed watching you through the years way back to the first season of Dirty Jobs.
I’m glad mike is exploring that out of body experience.
My respect for both of these men, Jesse and Mike just soared higher than most of flight attempts. Loved it!
It's good to see Mike out there again. We all miss Dirty Jobs.
When was this segment actually aired (or I guess filmed since it says it's never been seen before)? There’s some OG FPV pilots (Nick Willard and Jon Davis) in the background of some shots who haven’t been around for a long time.
Most of the "Somebody's Gotta Do It" shows were about 5 years ago on cable. Mike edits them down and puts them here on RUclips for all of us to watch!
That makes a lot more sense. I was disappointed not a single one of those guys brought a digital quad.
I think it was 2016
🤔
@@shazam6274 That's the part I can't square up. I know Somebody's Gotta Do It was from about five years ago but this segment must have been filmed years before that based on who is in it and what the equipment looks like.
Perfect video of Mike struggling with technology lmao
Mike has such a great vibe and personality, a great reading abd speaking voice, he's the best
Besides the thumbs-up and the thumbs-down icons, RUclips needs to add a smiling face and a cracking-up icon.
Been flying for years. I am giddy that Mike put on some FPV goggles.
We have to remember that Mike has trouble with "righty tighty, lefty loosey". ;)
Too much al-ke-haul can do that to a person.
So stoked to see you meet Jesse Perkins. He is the OG!! Excited to watch this ep
Hell yeah Mike! Someones gotta do it, and Its good you finally have...
FPV community is the best. So helpful, and welcoming. One of the best communities I ever joined. Love the FPV hobby. Fk RID..
So cool to see ya fly. Stick time stick time !!
OMG that looks like so much fun!! I want to be a pilot on my own little drone!! Thanks Jesse Perkins for trying to help Mike Rowe get over his fear of these winged buzzing beasts!
LOVE IT WHEN THIS HOBBY , SPORT , LIFESTYLE HITS THE MAINSTREAM
Ayyyy shout out the big homie Jesse Perkins! This is amazing.
AYOOO! Thanks man!
The best!! 🙌🏻
The hardest part to it is translating up, down, left, right, yaw, pitch, and roll when you have zero physical feedback from gravity.
Its almost like a video game
Its not that bad we humans adjust to it fairly quickly.
Like flying small aircraft. Put on the VFR helmet and use only the gauges, my friend.
I'm incredibly thankful for FPV flight simulators when it comes to learning how to fly the drones. I tend to think of it like you are controlling 4 dimensions of motion with two sticks, which is really tough to manage at first. Out of the three main FPV styles (cinematic, freestyle, racing) I think racing is the hardest one to get proficient at. Honestly I don't really even enjoy drone racing, but I know that it makes me a better pilot so i do it from time to time. In reality you trade control for speed and it can be hard to slow down and regain control once you lose it during the race. Respect to all the drone racing pilots out there it is far more difficult than the average person will be able to appreciate.
Don't know why it took me 4 days to see this.. lol. it was great! Welcome to the wonderful world of FPV..
protect this man at all costs , i bleeping love him
I can see this as a way to put a POTA antenna WAAAAY up there to reach farther, then be able to take it down without damaging anything
Love FPV when it’s not broken 😂
i love mike rowe
Ok this is awesome
I love Mike! I'd be happy to listen to him read the phone book!!
Awesome glad you got to experience what I do almost everyday. The hobby is the true addiction
Jesse P is a national treasure
Awesome, Props Mike
Mr. Rowe your self control amazes me! I would have been going "Gary Busey at his lowest" in: 3... 2... 1... BBBLLLAAAMMM!!!!!!! 😮🤪
This is such a fun hobby, but MAN! It's a STEEP learning curve!
Mike, you were a good spirit about this, it was fun to watch! Jesse P is the man, well respected amongst our folks ;)
Always enjoy watch Mike
I've been watching you for years Mike. Didn't know you had a YT channel. I've subbed. Happy flying amigo. 🍻
Thanks Mike.. You did it
The guy at the beginning, super patient BTW, telling Mike that these are just toys. Not sure why part of me doesn't quite believe that, it'd be like telling someone with a huge model train setup that they are "just toys"
I think Jessie was saying the tiny whoop is a toy in the context of its abilities vs a 3 or 5 inch quadcopter. The tiny whoop looks very forgiving for novice pilots and its clearly not going to have the speed or battery life of a full size racing drone.
For example I'm a disc golfer and discs are not frisbees, but sometimes when talking to someone who doesn't know about the sport its easier to visualize it when we say frisbee golf. We dont mean any discrespect to the sport when doing this but the average person is going to get confused or lost once we start throwing out terms from inside the sport.
Also worth noting: Thank god for digital transmission so we don't have to rely on analog anymore.
@@arklave Maybe it's one of those things as someone in the hobby you're allowed to make that comparison but other people are not. e.g. you as a disc golfer can say "frisbees" to explain to someone, but for me a non-disc golfer if I say "Disc golf is when you throw frisbees at metal chains over a bucket" I would get a few scowls 🤣
Id love to see a part 2! Theres some great tools and other options like fixed wing and head tracking that weren't explored here.
the headline should have been "someone was filming you while you were sleeping" or something
Man this was awesome!
So cool!
This is where tiny whoops really shine! Cheap to obtain and repair, and pretty much indestructible. One of the best tools to get anyone into the hobby, and keep you in it! Theyre so much fun.
Hah. This was great fun!!! Just picked up your ‘The Way I Heard It’ book today.
Welcome to the fun Mike. Guns and Drones are a great combination.
One of my old friends brother which is a friend also. He was in the Air Force for 10 years. Him and his family were into the remote Air Planes some with video cameras on them. Other technology like cell phones that is commo or communications in the Army commo training comes out of Ft.Lenardwood. Missouri for AIT. So with cell phones you can cut off some ones cell phone and stop them from getting a job. About 70% of jobs you will not get without a cell phone or some sort of communication. Some people add lines to their service for other people. But you almost must upgrade your phone. Your life almost depends on your cell phone.
If you can't get a job you can't pay your bills. Also HR if your lifestyle doesn't match up with someone in HR you might not get hired?
What a good sport and good laughs.
Thanks Loved it
Love it! haven't laughed so hard in a long time!
Best hobby !
Cheers from Knoxville
Love this one. I suck at drones, too. I'm an 80's kid, though🤙
Too cool Mike.
The sound the blue drone made 😂 nnyuuuuaAHHH---😂
SEND IT Mike!!
Watching this brings me back to when Analog ruled the hobby. I miss those days :(
❤❤❤ I will watch this guy do anything
Brushed Whoop was where it started for me, thanks JP 😁🤟
I believe someone's first flights should be done flying line of sight before anything else, but Mike was in good hands for an introduction to FPV flight. 🙂 Enjoyed watching, thanks!
Mike row got me in to the trades with dirty jobs and now days he’s racing drones 😂
"Third time's a... nope!"
-Mike Rowe
I just had to write that down. 😃
Mike, thank you for everything that you do. I'm a super fan of yours, and I wish you could come to my school where I work so you show the students what you do. I'm a school janitor, and I always wanted someone like yourself to come to my work and show the school what you do. Please let me know
Thanks dude
You should really revisit FPV drones! The technology has become so much better than when you filmed this!
I was coming here to say the same thing. Things have definitely progressed since then.
Big shout out to Mike for taking on such a challenge. Most people spend 10-20 hrs in a sim before even touching a real life quad. So Mikes flying wasn’t bad for his first time.
I agree 100%, my flying for the first few hours in the sim was beyond abysmal. Took me at least 5 hours in before i wasn't crashing multiple times a minute. Then account for the fact that he was using an analog headset with a tiny drone in real world conditions and I'm actually pretty impressed at his initial efforts.
I learned before sims.. it was beneficial to the suppliers for sure!
@@Mainekarter2004 hahaha I bet I crashed like hell with 20th in sim 😅
sUAS helped me buy myself out of slavery. I was a machinist ten years ago when I picked up my first multi-rotor. A good job but I hated it and was topped out as far as salary goes. Fast forward a decade and Im teaching design, operations in NAS, and Crew Resource Management at a local college with my degree. I still go out and work with infrastructure inspection and GIS in my off time. Its great. Always learning. Drones have taught me everything from wireless links , SCADA to Substation architecture. Skills buy you choices kids. Find ones that other folks value and lean into learning.
The racers are so important to the droning hobby. They're the ones pushing the technology to it's limits and beyond. I don't race but these guys are the salt of the earth in the drone world as far as I'm concerned.
Good stuff
The "save" at 5:25 is incredible. I'm having a hard time figuring out whether the quad hit some part of the gate or whether it just got a hair too low and contacted the ground, the latter being what it looks to me like what happened. I think it might have been more luck than an actual save, but I would love to see the onboard footage of that.
ABSOLUTELY THE BEST FUN YOU WILL EVER HAVE !!!!!!
There are studies being done I believe about people who use FPV to help them recover from drug addiction!! That is just an indication of how profound flight is. Because essentially it feels like you are in control of a flying craft that your in !!!!!!
Send it always Mike!!?🚀
My hometown!
LMAO I love how long he tried to zip up his jacket before giving up./
blast from the past. this had to have been filmed at least 7 or 8 years ago!
That first flight was far, far better than any of mine ever went.
You are a good sport Mike.
i love FPV ❤
❤ ya, Mike!
