Being SF: The City Surf Project

The City Surf Project partners with San Francisco USD public middle and high schools to teach surfing PE classes. Students go to the pool for swim lessons, on the bay at Crissy Field to paddle, and to the beach for surfing lessons. The majority of participants in these schools have little to no prior exposure to the ocean; for many, these outings represent opportunities to try and accomplish things they never thought possible, like surfing a cold beach in San Francisco! As they learn to ride waves, the kids who participate in City Surf Project's programs build self-confidence and develop tools to overcome boundaries and roadblocks.
