it beeps because you have the max amps alarm setting below what the current is drawing, i.e. if you set to 300ma max amp it will only beep when the current draw is above 300ma.
Why it pumps just 3A when you short it? It is rated at 8A, have you set any limit? I want to use it for the purpose of pumping current in shorted boards to find short circuit.

That’s what you use this for, the shorted component will heat up so it can be seen on a thermal camera
