The amount of options, not just draft to draft but game to game in this format is absolutely insane.
Sagas, reconfigure, equipment, ninjitsu, grave returning effects, top card banishing, the sheer number of value engines and options make for some super interactive gameplay. I don't know if it's a good draft format or not game design/balance wise, but makes playing and watching fun as hell. Subscribed
The bug as I see it with "The long reach of Night" is that you can't chose to not discard a card if you have no creatures. As the card is worded you can always choose to sac, regardless of if you have any creatures or not.
I had no idea you could ninjutsu after damage! That's dope.
This was such a masterclass in drafting - love how you forced Ninjitsu pack 1 and was rewarded for it. Good tip to hold priority and ninjitsu again after damage.

Damn I see now why the ninja deck I drafted didn't work, I had the Modern Age saga thinking a 2/3 flyer would be great for ninjas, but I never wanted to ninjutsu it back to hand since the 2 turn looting wasn't that great, the Okiba saga though is perfect to bounce back and replay it. I thought the color pair was kinda weak since most 3 or 4 thoughness blockers would blank most ninjas, but having those crazy values plays with bounces, evasion and draining make it so good.
This deck was disgusting and opened my eyes to U/B. sweet channel I'll be watching a lot of your drafts
Loved the After Damage Ninjitsu. I always forget that's a thing, based on most of them having damage based triggers lol
Ninjutsu is crazy powerful that way. Especially if the incoming creature has an ETB effect instead of a damage effect. It really feels like cheating :D
@@manifatzigula I feel it is unbalanced, I would like a ruling that says that you cannot ninjutsu a created that already came in via ninjutsu.. it just seems unfair...

Tonight was my first Neon Dynasty draft, and my first Magic draft in 5 years. I drafted blue/black. I lost because I was stupid.

Am I missing something or is mire just 100% the pick at 14:30. It's just playing 24 spells in a 17 land deck. It's so low opportunity cost.
Unless I'm missing something (so correct me if I'm wrong), at 30:45 you had ez lethal: attack for 6 with your evasive creatures (1 menace, 1 flyer, OP had only 1 ground blocker), equip and sac Kunai for exaczees (remember Kenji, Kunai is a lightning bolt and can smack face!)
You're missing the fact that you have to tap the creature to activate Kunai - which you can't do if they're tapped due to attacking! Nice try :)

Tons of great pro tips in here. I don't draft very much but I think I might get into drafting this set because it looks really really fun. For that free phantom draft they just did I drafted an insane Ninja's deck also. Pack one pick one was satoru.

Every deck I've drafted with Tatsunari has gone plus on the money. Done about 20 drafts so far and had it 4 times, its so consistently good I would definitely classify it as a bomb in this format.
Kunai should cost 0 to throw if it’s equipped to a ninja.

I think I would have snapped off the rare land pack 3 given you knew you would have plenty of playables and the rest of the pack was solid but not amazing. Getting to add a 25th "spell" for free has to be worth it, even if the spell isn't amazing in the deck.
And, by the way, it's a decent spell! You can instant speed get back a ninja to Ninjitsu in and also it costs 2 if you have the frogs out.

Yeah that's how it's supposed to work. The bug is actually that you have to discard when you have no creatures.
@@rainn79 “discard unless you sac a creature” how is having to discard when you can’t pay the sacrifice trigger a bug? If it said choose one then I could see but it literally says do X unless you do Y and if you don’t have X makes sense you have to do Y.
@@aelinstue9431 When that's the intention it will say "Sacrifice a creature, if you can't, discard a card", but you can 'choose' to sacrifice a creature with no creature in play, in which case nothing happens. It's the same reason you can play a card that says 'each player sacrifices a creature' when there's no creatures in play, I guess.
@@aelinstue9431 it is a bug, because it says "Sac unless you discard", not the other way around. You choose whether to discard or not. If you choose not to, it becomes "sacrifice a creature", regardless of whether you have any.

118.12a Some spells, activated abilities, and triggered abilities read, “[Do something] unless [a player does something else].” This means the same thing as “[A player may do something else]. If [that player doesn’t], [do something].”
Edit: Basically, it forces the discard if you have no creatures and it is intended that way. Unless I'm misunderstanding the bug.
"Circuit mender doesn't have sinergies in my deck" - can be ninjitsued for extra life and card, can be blinked for same, or replicated. What are you talking about haha :)

Great content as always Nummy. However, pretty sure the long reach of night bug is actually you have to discard a card if you have no creatures in play based on the wording.

Long Reach of Night isn't bugged. The wording explicitly states that you have to sacrifice a creature if you cannot discard a card.

I started drafting with Kaladesh, and this set has been the closest to feeling like that format. I think with all the artifacts synergies plus vehicles, it makes sense, but the gameplay also feels fundamentally similar somehow. Needless to say, I'm really enjoying it so far (but maybe I'm biased because I'm 4 out of 4 for hitting 7 wins)
Mull to five against a good curve with ninja toads (battletoads!)? How much better could you ask for? I think you had 3 of that common 1/1 flier you spoke so highly of but didn’t draw one in any game; but the rare flying men was ther 3-4 times….

Have to ask since its actually affecting my drafts. Is there some sort of color or archetype imbalance that's been recognized or you know about? I 7-x'd alot(Platnium, close to diamond) in the first few days and now some of the drafts i've had are kind of crazy where its not clear what lanes/colors people are in till very late. I know people like to splash in this format but it just seems much more all over the place in the last few days. that incredibly late kami flare that happened to you has happened to me more than once so i'm assuming people are fighting over colors for some reason.

Ive only played about 10 drafts but UB and UW and GW seem like the most played combinations. Ive been liking going ninjas. You can chain them together alot of the time for value and you get card filtering in blue. But if you get it early GW pure enchantments is sick. I got 3 Boseju enchantment one draft passed to me

The amount of card advantage in this set as a whole is out of control. Even aggro decks are grindy wtf lol.
Had an incredible sealed today, two Silver-Fur Masters with something like seven or eight rogues+ninjas, and the cheap blue/black aggro cards to back it up. Aggro in sealed, easy seven wins. However, one of the most impressing cards in the deck was the Saika Trespassers; not for the creature, but for the Channel effect. It's just _really_ strong when you most definitely do have smaller creatures than your opponent and want to/have to get in. getting rid of two blockers for two turns was very much worth the 4 mana for me in that deck - you should try it next time!
Is there a limited world championship each year? Would you play if there was one?
There is a limited component to the mythic championship, but it's not nearly as big a deal as the constructed section (last year's winner was notably winless in limited). Other than that, there's regional tournaments and stuff, but I think Kenji has said he doesn't really attend those anymore. Also, he's very good, but it's not even guaranteed he would qualify or be invited if WoTC hosted such a limited-specific championship, most of the MtG HOFers are also very good at limited.
I do generally wish WoTC would support limited better though :( Even if you qualify for Mythic Qualifiers each season through limited top 2000, they make you play constructed in the qualifier -_-
I didn't get to watch the whole thing but is Planar Incision really worth playing? Surely even with lots of ETB effects another Ninjitsu or even another ETB given all the Ninjitsu cards is just better?
Not taking the freeroll land when you were already overcrowded with playables confused me.

On the game where the opponent was at three and you had equipped kunai (maybe game 2), why drop the saga for 1drain versus hitting face with knife with that mama? Seems like missed lethal unless I missed something.

I believe the bug is that if you have no creatures you are forced to discard Wich isn't how it's supposed to work. You can choose not to discard and sac no creatures if you have non.
If the best draft means that you force an archetype from p1p1 on, passing better cards, then I believe the format will be a disappointment.
I think that you worded the long reach bug wrong. I think if you have no creatures you should be able to choose to sacrifice a creature instead of discarding a card. But it seems arena won't give you the option. I could be wrong. It's worded odd as it doesn't say or, so arena might have it correct and everyone else is wrong. I'm not sure though.

Having 7 artifacts 7 enchantments and not playing the 3/4 Kami draw a card, gain 1 life if you control both an artifact and an enchantment seems so wrong to me.
Can't argue with the result tho, Tatsunari is better than the Dragons in this deck.

Yeah ninjas are ok, mechs suck, equips are shit. Only good thinggs are green sagas and raijins. Overrated format, getting Ixalan vibes.
i'd say you. try to explore more. most people i talked too think this is one of the best sets in a while. its not as cut and dry as others. theres alot of strong synergies and overlapping ones in different colors. And one of the best things is that alot of the rares arent nearly as busted and gamebreaking as in VOW.
@@rodintremboy6459 yeah I'm just not having as much fun with this set as I did with crimson vow. Idk this set just doesnt feel like magic to me. Maybe I'm just burnt out of the game altogether for the moment.
I'm tired of wotc printing premium/alt art x 100 for new sets;
and when I look at the price of a regular chase rare it's only like 9~$

Tatsunari is just silly good. I wonder if players are going to make enchantment heavy decks centered around it. If you lose the Keimi it's not a big deal as you can get Keimi back in play by playing another enchantment - so some kind of sacrifice play could increase the value even further though it isn't bad without that as Keimi gives small lifesteal for enchatments anyway. And (surpricingly) Tatsunari is a ninja too..

I suppose yes - so you could ninjutsu Keimi - but Keimi would disappear from hand - but that's not a big deal as another enchancement would put him/her back in play.
"Enchancement creatures" are enchangements too -correct? :O
