I absolutely agree, however I am 64 and I've only just discovered October Project and Mary Fahl. OMG - her voice!!! I absolutely understand your mystification (is that a word?) - she is magnificent!!!!! I want to dig deeper and find out if she has Celtic heritage. I can hear it in her voice. She is amazing for sure.
In October 1993, a friend and I were browsing a shopping mall record store and they started playing OP's first album. We had never heard anything like it. Absolutely transporting! We each bought a copy of the CD. I visited him a few weeks ago and found that we both carry OP's 2 cd's in our cars for frequent listening. On May 12, 2023 the two of us are going to see Mary Fahl's solo show in Columbus Ohio. Look for her in your area.
One of the best things about youtube....finding a concert video of a band you love that you never thought you would ever see live ever again...one of my favorite bands...only 2 albums and then pffft....gone...thank you for posting this...

Thanks for putting this up - very cool to see. I think the record company never really "got" October Project. I bet it was hard work to play this showcase of Sony big-wigs who were probably not that interested in the band. Some of the names read out at the start were MDs of Sony in other territories such as New Zealand and Australia, the former country you could find endless copies of the debut album in bargain bins at music stores.

Unfortunately, there are many groups that are not taken into account properly. I'm writing this and I comes to mind the band: The Moths (London) - "Folk Rock" and his first album: "Summer Snow" (1986). A self-produced album and in my opinion a gem in style. Returning to October Project for more than its original members are, except Mary Fahl, not again be the same. Not only by atmospheric voice and charisma of Fahl ... The magic disappeared ... I remember hearing her single, "Bury My Lovely" on a radio about music "New Age" in Spain and was intrigued at the time and I I bought the CD. I realized that was not a band or two hits ... it was a perfect album. In 1995 and "Falling Farther In" was more nuanced "folk" .. but excellent. The rest of his career has gone more or less. With the formation November Project promised compositional level ... just an EP. By the way I recommend a formation of Virginia: Brave, it is pure "Folk", with undertones of "Progressive Hard Rock". I agree with you. Although November Project/October Project Mk II had some good songs, without the combination of all the members it didn't work so great. Ditto for Mary's solo career.
Also ... ditto for Mary Fahl ... is to say that still has a great voice; but lacks the lyrics of those songs that you both poetic feeling permeating Julie Flanders (writer and poet). Greetings.

Lo primero que me cautivó...la voz de Mary Fahl...sublime, atmosférica, de armoniosas notas profundas. La magia desapareció cuando Mary Fahl se fue del grupo. Ni OP. suenan igual ni la carrera de Fahl ha sido la misma. Para tu información, supongo si eres fan del grupo...en "RUclips" puedes ver el otro video concierto, realizado un año más tarde, 1996, en Nueva York, de donde son. Que yo sepa y por ello no tengo más material de conciertos de larga duración, no hay disponible más grabaciones que no sean estas dos. En la separación hubo razones de rivalidad y liderazgo. Tras OP, surgió la banda November Project que solo grabó un álbum: "A Thousand Days" (1999), dando conciertos en pequeñas salas, el Cd es muy difícil de conseguir y su precio desorbitado. En mi canal he puesto todas las canciones e incluso un tema inédito en directo. De este trabajo destacaría dos canciones: "A Thousand Days" y "Endless Circle". La cantante se llama: Maryanne Marino; si la escucha comprobarás que es una excelente cantante, no llega a la altura de Fahl, pero cumple perfectamente. Ten en cuenta que OP, aparte de la voz de Fahl, una piedra filosofal de grupo era...a nivel compositivo...esto corría a cargo de Julie Flanders (escritora, poetisa y voces en la banda). Coincido totalmente , lo que ha hecho OP despues de su epoca con Mary Fahl no esta nada mal, pero definitivamente ya no es lo mismo, me gusto mucho una cancion de ellos llamanda in the " Mind's eye " de su EP Different Eyes y la que dices " A thousand years " de November project también es muy buena!! pero de ahi en fuera no hay nada que me llama demasiado la atención de ellos. ( al menos no que yo recuerde ) hace un año sacaron un nuevo disco " The book of Rounds" pero ya es un concepto totalmente distinto . Y bueno que decir de sus primeros dos discos de los noventas me gusta mas el primero que el segundo pero ambos son excelentes !! October Project certainly "captured lightning in a bottle" with their 2 cd's. The lyrics, music, & vocals were perfectly matched. I don't know why they didn't continue together but I wish they would have.
when the guitarist did his little "solo" during Be My Hero, the camera should have been on him. Loved seeing them perform my favorite songs - really great video. A few bad camera angles, but decent enough sound. Thanks!

There is nothing else available from that time nor do I think that the Sony record company or the band, currently, is for the work of editing concerts of that time (the best) with the singer Mary Fahl. Those groups that make a difference to others, is that they usually last a short time. October Project are still active .., but, it is no longer the same. Curiously, with Emil Adler, a composer of music and Julie Flanders, a great lyricist ... they did not manage to create that atmosphere they did in the time of Mary Fahl. Something similar occurred when the October Project dissolved and Emil Adler and Julie Flanders formed the band November Project (You can listen to their only album on this channel) with Mary Anne Marino as lead singer ... it seemed that "October Project" for its compositional quality and the great voice of Ann Marino. But, they only recorded an album, acting in small locals. The rest of the story is current, but nothing has changed my way of thinking ... I recognize, they have recorded some good song, but, little else. Best regards.

Undoubtedly, it has been an excellent band of "Neofolk", although this term arose at the end of the 90´s...but, it represents a lot this sound, tendency. Another band that I recommend is the group Brave (Virginia, formerly known by the name: Arise from Thorns). Listening to the vocalist, Michelle Loose-Schrotz, is a delight. It´s a progressive rock / metal band; but with stylistic and vocal harmonies, it´s one of those groups that go unnoticed by a great majority. Best regards!
All of them, including their manager, are painfully shy introverts. Except Mary Fahl. Now I can see why it was impossible for them to carry on after Mary's departure. My guess is that it must have been torture for them to perform in front of a crowd. Especially Julie.

Quando eu abri meu canal do RUclips ... eu percebi que isso não estava mais disponível video-concerto, só foi realizada em Nova York em 1996. estonces, decidi enviá-lo. É uma anedota curiosa sobre este concerto. Como lo excelso...duró poco...un par de álbumes sublimes y dos video-conciertos: Uno en su ciudad natal, Nueva York (1996) y otro, éste celebrado en Escocia (1995). El resto de material tanto como October Project y la carrera, en solitario, de Mary Fahl...no es lo mismo. "Una voz sin buenas canciones y arreglos no es nada...o viceversa". Coincido Joseph, la simbiosis entre Mary, Julie, Marina y Emil era mágica e irrepetible. Una lástima el temprano quiebre. Yo tengo toda la discografía tanto de OP como de Mary, incluído November Project (muy buena banda pero la vara había quedado muy alta con Mary dentro). Tengo un amigo que vive en NY y conoce a todos los miembros. Incluso me envió dos Cds de Mary autografiados (casi me muero!!). Si Joseph, NP es una muy buena banda también, el punto es que OP dejaron la vara demasiado alta. Respecto de los temas, imaginalos con la voz de Mary Fahl, serían otra cosa, sin desmerecer a Maryanne Marino, muy buena vocalista pero más terrenal. Respecto de los videos, ellos sacaron hace un tiempo un DVD, yo no lo tengo, mi amigo neoyorkino si. Estoy casi seguro que es el mismo material que subieron a youtube y al que hacés referencia en uno de tus comentarios precedentes.

No tengo constancia de ningún video-concierto más de aquella época. En cuanto, a grabaciones de audio, existe una, en Rochester (NY), el 10 de abril de 1995. Yo no la tengo, sé que tiene 20 canciones y está recogido en el "Water Street Music Hall" de Rochester. There is something missing from that performance and that is a bass player.It makes a huge difference because the bass line in most of these songs, instead of just providing the root or the sixth of a chord, has it's own distinct melody.To play the bass line on keyboards doesn't sound nearly as good as the real thing.

Muito obrigado pelas suas palavras. Vou dizer-lhe este vídeo que encontrei no RUclips em 2014 ... Eu não consigo lembrar o canal do RUclips. Gravei-lo e colocá-lo no computador, juntamente com mais material October Project. Quando eu abri meu canal do RUclips ... eu percebi que isso não estava mais disponível video-concerto, só foi realizada em Nova York em 1996. estonces, decidi enviá-lo. É uma anedota curiosa sobre este concerto. Vou informá-lo ... que existem esses dois shows, formato VHS, um CD, "Live At Opus 40-9 julho 1994" e um CD duplo com um concerto realizado em Rochester, Nova York, em 4 de Outubro de 1995. Boa caça . Melhores cumprimentos.

"Lástima que las cosas buenas son limitadas en el tiempo...October Project antes de separarse en 1996 y reunirse nuevamente en 2001, editaron dos álbumes exquisitos en sus armonías y de letras profundas. No se ha de olvidar que la letrista del grupo es escritora. Desde el 2001 siguen en activo; pero, han perdido cierta magia que le proporcionaba la excelsa voz de su cantante Mary Fahl. Muchas gracias por tu comentario...Si has leido o lees los comentarios aquí, sobre OP...es una música: "Fuera de Parámetros" (Término de audición musical dentro del "High End"). Como lo excelso...duró poco...un par de álbumes sublimes y dos video-conciertos: Uno en su ciudad natal, Nueva York (1996) y otro, éste celebrado en Escocia (1995). El resto de material tanto como October Project y la carrera, en solitario, de Mary Fahl...no es lo mismo. "Una voz sin buenas canciones y arreglos no es nada...o viceversa". Mary ponía la voz y Julie Flanders las letras y música junto con su esposo Emil Adler. Esto se rompió...por lo tanto se acabó. Un cordial saludo.
Coincido Joseph, la simbiosis entre Mary, Julie, Marina y Emil era mágica e irrepetible. Una lástima el temprano quiebre. Yo tengo toda la discografía tanto de OP como de Mary, incluído November Project (muy buena banda pero la vara había quedado muy alta con Mary dentro). Tengo un amigo que vive en NY y conoce a todos los miembros. Incluso me envió dos Cds de Mary autografiados (casi me muero!!). Un abrazo grande desde San Carlos de Bariloche en la Patagonia Argentina. Eduardo :)

Por cierto, de November Project, que como sabrás solo sacaron un trabajo...se podría decir que tenían un par de canciones de altura: "A Thousand Years" y "Endless Circle" y la voz de Maryanne Marino es muy buena, salvando las distancias con Mary Fahl. Lástima que sea complicado conseguir material visual de aquella época que no sea lo dicho anteriormente. Por cierto, este trabajo de November Project lo tengo puesto en mi canal, con un tema inédito, interpretado en directo. Saludos nuevamente.
Si Joseph, NP es una muy buena banda también, el punto es que OP dejaron la vara demasiado alta. Respecto de los temas, imaginalos con la voz de Mary Fahl, serían otra cosa, sin desmerecer a Maryanne Marino, muy buena vocalista pero más terrenal. Respecto de los videos, ellos sacaron hace un tiempo un DVD, yo no lo tengo, mi amigo neoyorkino si. Estoy casi seguro que es el mismo material que subieron a youtube y al que hacés referencia en uno de tus comentarios precedentes.
¡Hola..,de nuevo! En la plataforma de "RUclips" puedes encontrar 2 videos-conciertos. Uno, el de 1995 (Scotland), en mi canal y el de Nueva York (1996). No tengo constancia de ningún video-concierto más de aquella época. En cuanto, a grabaciones de audio, existe una, en Rochester (NY), el 10 de abril de 1995. Yo no la tengo, sé que tiene 20 canciones y está recogido en el "Water Street Music Hall" de Rochester. De November Project, sé que solía actuar en recintos pequeños y lo único que tengo...es lo que incluyo en el video de mi canal: Alguna fotografía de una actuación en directo y el tema en directo, no incluido en su unico álbum. Sé que grabaron nuevas canciones para un segundo trabajo; pero, este no se llegó a publicar. Saludos...

Also one of the most naturally beautiful voices. Her voice just as good today as then.
There is something missing from that performance and that is a bass player.It makes a huge difference because the bass line in most of these songs, instead of just providing the root or the sixth of a chord, has it's own distinct melody.To play the bass line on keyboards doesn't sound nearly as good as the real thing.

Some times very talented people for some reason are not recognized I think in this case the music and the lyrics are too deep and intelligent for most people.. too much mental effort to understand!!!
Why does the keyboard guy keep trying to harmonize when he obviously can’t sing? No wonder Mary left… That would be frustrating as hell.
