There are a lot of "history of yugioh" videos out there, but what they all fail to show is actual gameplay from that era. This is a nice little series that can show how the decks of yugioh evolver over time
Thanks for covering this, bittersweet as it is being on the losing side it was a great match Aretos being one of the absolute best DM era duelists played super well and I would like to think we put on a good show!
Hey db can we see a format with Chaos Emperor Dragon/Yata Lock/Chaos Variants were the metagame. These decks utilized very powerful cards that to this remain banned on the forbidden list (Mirage of Nightmare, Imperial Order, Chaos Emperor Dragon, Confiscation, and many others.) 2005 gave rise to the very popular GOAT control.
that would be Chaos Format (2004), if he goes through formats step by step at a weekly rate he will be there by February, unlocking all these cards on his way!
Critter is one of my favorite old formats, there's just so much skill involved and each game is a massive grind (in the best way!). I'm excited to see what you think of the next couple of formats although as you say the introduction of things like the hand rips aren't necessarily the healthiest thing for the game
This format looks much more interesting than many current gameplays lol. The advantage players are having is changing much more often. In nowadays format you sometimes just compare hands and you can easily see who is winning and who is not!
Was this tourney in his discord or is he commentating someone else's tourney? I think I'll wait to join one until they get to like 2007 or something because Yugi-Kaiba and Critter are pretty fun but everything after Magic Ruler is pretty miserable imo.
this was on Format Library (you can see him using the website), there's several tournaments a month from YK to Modern, eg January will have Perfect Circle.
Masked Control and Muka Turbo are like two sides of a coin, they conversion side perfectly into one another, Control Aggro. a newer variant of Masked Control relies heavily on Counter Traps including Magic Jammer and Horn of Heaven, which means def no Muka mained in that case, but then there's the smokescreen again. 😁👏 ps. Card Destruction sees play at times but rarely, in part due to Exodia being strong, but playing more Muka, White Magical Hat and Robbin Goblin is better value imo.

I love these old format games. They feel like a combination of Yugioh and Chess
YuGiOh is Chess with a slightly different board and some extra pieces 🤣👍

Critter is the first format I think is good. The prior formats favoured Stall too much. This format has a lot more active decision making, feels like.
