1. What are some of the pieces of evidence that a person is saved?
One piece of, evidence that a person is saved is when Christ Jesus becomes Lord, their thought life changes. Thoughts are now examined through the lens of God’s word, which in turn affects behavior. Sinful behavior patterns change, sometimes it’s a progressive change, sometimes it’s more immediate, none-the-less there is a marked change towards God’s way of living.
Another witness that a person is saved is the heart becomes more sensitive to the things of God. There’s a desire for the word of God and the word heard and received in the heart lingers, thus increasing the appetite for more. The longing for intimacy with Christ draws you into His presence.
When saved, it becomes quicker to repent, because you don’t want to hurt or grieve the Holy Spirit. Because Jesus suffered and died for our sins; I don’t want to say it was all for nothing by, continuing to live in habitual wrongdoing.
When saved, relationships with others will change; when we first start growing in Christ we put aside relationships and activities that draw our hearts away from the things of God. We engage with others who love God and are mature in their faith, study the Word together and have fun together, we also allow ourselves to be accountable to wise trustworthy counselors or advisors.
When saved, we learn to serve others with the right motives of the heart. We allow the fruit of the spirit to be developed within us so that we can share it with others.
2. What are some things that don't prove salvation one way or the other?
All works that are done to earn salvation are in vain.
Witnessing to be saved
Serving to be saved
Rules of how to dress to prove you’re saved
Rules of what music or instrument is played or listened to show how saved you are
Rules of what you eat to show you are saved
Any tradition, ritual, rule, or custom that sets itself above the finished work of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, which we receive by grace through faith- is vain empty work.
Wow, great answers! It really is about the heart rather than external behavior.
