Agree with you....I went to Russia in 2019 and can tell you that I double checked everything I had in my suitcase.
However the same cautious approach applies to ALL countries ....in Malaysia, for example, there's a mandatory death penalty for drugs.

Reminds me of a film from the 1970's called The midnight express. An American was convicted of smuggling drugs in turkey and was in a terrible prison for a long time . Very scary movie.
