  • 🌟Vijay Prashad is an Indian historian, journalist, and academic. He was a professor of International Studies at Trinity College, Connecticut and is the author of forty books, including “Red Star Over the Third World”, and “The Darker Nations: A People's History of the Third World”
His latest book “The Withdrawal: Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, and the Fragility of U.S. Power” was written with Noam Chomsky. He currently serves as Executive Director of The Tricontinental: Institute for Social Research.
Vijay is a public intellectual and I consider him together with people like Noam Chomsky, Yanis Varoufakis, or Jeremy Corbin one of the leaders of “the global left” pointing the finger at where it hurts: that colonialism never actually ended and the majority of today’s wars are still the outcome of imperial Western politics.

I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for globalist oligarchs. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.”― Smedley D. Butler, War is a Racket , a short book and speeches written in 1935.

Vijay Prashad is an Indian historian, journalist, and academic.

Is it possible that the developing countries slow rise is more sustainable since most of them didn't have the opportunities to exploit other countries resources on such a large scale as the main economies in the collective west, and therefore must to larger extent depend on creative solutions/ fundamental internal development (in my humble opinion). I sincerely hope that this realignment that is occurring in the world - the multipolar movement, creates due incentive for the still unstable regions to withstand the pull from the now existing poles, so that they might become yet another pillar for stability and discourage in their turn others from radical moves (I mean we all should consider the possibility of more radical and confrontational leaders in the future in Russia/China/India for example. • @ralphbernhard1757
      @ralphbernhard1757 Год назад

      Yup.
It's an age-old technique, called "the ally/proxy/favorite", all "extensions" of the own system.
"The Force" to influence billions of minds is strategy. The most effective of these is the divide and rule/conquer technique. It is also the most misunderstood of all strategies, usually and falsely associated with Nazis, bullies and other evil regimes: WRONG.
*It is simply a technique used to effect the highest own potential systemic gain with the least own imput, by dividing any potential opposition, mostly via the cheap trick of appealing to people's emotions and biases. Once systemic dependecies have been created, on multiple tiers, these must come to the "divider" for "a ruling".*
Every system which does not specifically forbid ze divide and rule/conquer technique, will systematically enable it.
No human system is immune to it, and neither are democracies, or our revered capitalism, or any form of "meritocracy".
One of the core techniques of the divide and rule/conquer strategy is *favoratism:* it is really simple, but no system of power which ever made it to the top, will ever admit how simple it is.
Most power players who discover the simplicity of the technique, will try to disguise it and misuse it for own gain, rather than to expose it for what it is: a means of deception, which once exposed and widely-known, will unravel the power it holds over billions of minds. *Power players on all tiers of reciprocal human interaction with an intent of gain motive can never admit that they use ze technique themselves, nor can they accuse others directly of employing it, because they all employ it, either directly, or indirectly via proxies.* Therefore *you* as a commoner will hardly ever hear it being discussed and repeated like the proverbial "mantra": it occupies a lowly existence in intellectual debates, even though it is the key to true power. Like the Nazis, all power players regardless of the "system of gain" in question, come up with all kinds of subterfuge to avoid being immediately exposed as playing the game of divide and rule themselves...
Enter any hierarchical system of power in any intent of gain model of reciprocal human interaction, and you'll enter a shark tank.
      *The favorite = the proxy.*
Scale it up or down to whichever tier you wish.
*All that is needed is a position of superior power.*
The Big Lie is the power of the divide and rule/conquer technique, and even the Nazis hid their "Big Lie"-conspiracy theory, behind an even bigger lie: how they intended to play this game until they got into power after their failed coup d'etat.
The "Big Lie" is not a myth but a misrepresentation of the truth.
*It is the power of "divide and rule/conquer" which lurks behind every strategy they follow, in order to gain.*
No human being has ever come up with a means to overcome this age-old technique of ruling over billions of people, because it is predicated on human nature itself, which is enduring.
No power player wants to become associated with authoritarian, or "colonial" tactics and strategies, or Nazis, so they cannot use it as a political means to attack rivals: it will immediately result in blowback.
*The "Big Lie" conspiracy masked the divide and rule technique.*
No power player can ever accuse any other power player of using it, since it will immediately backfire: the accusation of using the technique themselves, which in most cases of intent of gain will even apply***. The disguise usually comes in the form of scapegoating or another form of appeal to the emotion of listeners, or addressing and fortifying their already existing biases.
*"Scapegoating" = an appeal to lower emotions of potential supporters.*
In our divided societies, appealing to these biases might always be that tiny little "weight" that tilts the scale in very tightly run political elections.
Most power players read books on strategy, with the intention of using these strategies for personal gain, not because they wish to benefit *you* (the individual).
There is always the urge to defend own favored systems, when one reads perceived "attacks" on these favored systems or own heroes, and the beloved own "-isms", which also reveal standard procedures, meaning the "attacker" soon falls into predetermined pathways to deflect and obfuscate from the core theory...
      Footnotes:
***only applies in competitive "intent of gain" systems, *not* benevolent forms of reciprocal human interaction which are 100% fair...

Putin wanted there to atleast 2 different sides.. Through the distasteful horrible reputation of US actions they created a 3rd side.
Quoting ex US president bush "If you are not with us, you are an enemy".. well then with russia side having 2 super powers and India side having a soon to be super power.
US stuck with its self as a Super power, yet they act as if they are a tyrannical king. They must watch their step, for stepping on someone's toe is disasterous for US.

the Western colonial imperial powers are not going to loosen their grip on the world as their power slips away.
as their dominance, control and hegemony weakens, expect their belligerence, violence arrogance and hubris to increase.

As always I agree with many things that Vijay says and every now and then I learn something from his talks/statements. For example I had no idea that Japan was buying/still buying oil or gas from Russia.
However a few things apropos good and evil which you said you don't care for:
-Pinpointing what is good or evil could become difficult but that does not mean that the concept is wrong.
-Just because there is a grey color doesn't mean that black and white doesn't exist. In fact light grey compared to dark grey is brighter. Another word relativity applies to good and evil and various degree of it.
-Yes as you said anyone can call whatever they wish good and those who are against him/her evil and yes too many irresponsible and careless people do just that but that doesn't prove that good and evil does not exist.
-Obviously you care for what is good and what is right otherwise you would laser focus on making money instead of doing what you are doing.

The lines between good n evil is clearly defined, the majority of the world's leaders tend to tilt towards various degree of evil for their personal gains without caring for the long term consequences of their bad decisions on their own nations n people.
The phillipines is just a shining example

While he did not say outright that the US is evil but his frequent criticisms has clearly shown the way.
Anyway the US is not the only country engaged in evil as those countries supporting it r just the same.
It's just that the US bcos of its financial n military power has a greater capacity to do more evil

      @@meow14115 Two things:
      1-Tiger is not a human.
2-Have you heard of the story of the elephant in the dark and those around the elephant try to explain based on touching different parts of the elephant what it is they are touching.
Well the moral of that story is, if you don't look at the big picture or unwilling to see the broader picture, then your explanation and understanding will also become limited.
I just say this killing as dramatic as it is, is not necessary related with good and evil. The food chain is part of living. Even when cows eat grass or plants that is still killing. Good and Evil has nothing to do with the cycle of life.
Last but not least some people seek answers in ways without politeness as opposed to having good manners, for example, by using words such as please and thank you, this indicates lack of maturity and thoughtfulness.

Certainly when someone come to "kill, steal and destroy" the perpetrator has to stake his stance as "good" as against "evil" with a cooked-up and out of this world justification!
