- Beirut plays the song "Postcards From Italy" live in concert at the Fox Theatre in Oakland, California on March 2, 2019. Condon wrote the song as a teenager in France (not Italy) and recorded it for his first album, Gulag Orkestar, released in 2006. The brass arrangement in this live version differs from the album version; starting around the 3:30 mark, you'll hear a higher trumpet part that's not in the original. Along with Zach Condon, the band is Nick Petree, Paul Collins, Ben Lanz, Kyle Resnick, and Aaron Arntz.

Postcards From Italy lyrics:
The times we had
Oh, when the wind would blow with rain and snow
Were not all bad
We put our feet just where they had, had to go
Never to go
The shattered soul
Following close but nearly twice as slow
In my good times
There were always golden rocks to throw
At those who
Those who admit defeat too late
Those were our times, those were our times
And I will love to see that day
That day is mine
When she will marry me outside with the willow trees
And play the songs we made
They made me so
And I would love to see that day
Her day was mine

Beirut official bio:
To celebrate the release of Gallipoli, Beirut will play headline shows throughout North America and Europe in 2019 - including a gig in the iconic Fox Theater.
Zach Condon, the mastermind behind Beirut, releases his fifth studio album Gallipoli on February 1, 2019.
The 12-track Gallipoli started life in the winter of 2016, with Condon returning to his old Farfisa organ, the same one used to write the first two Beirut albums (2006’s Gulag Orkestar and the following year’s The Flying Club Cup).
Following recording stints in New York and Berlin (where he now calls home), Condon settled in Sudestudio, a studio complex deep in rural Puglia, southern Italy. It was here that he rediscovered the old joys of music as a visceral experience which became the founding principle for Gallipoli.
Available now, Gallipoli’s title track is a cathartic embrace of old and new. Condon says, “We stumbled into the medieval-fortressed island town of Gallipoli one night and followed a brass band procession fronted by priests carrying a statue of the town’s saint through the winding narrow streets behind what seemed like the entire town. The next day I wrote the song entirely in one sitting, pausing only to eat.”
