Tanking is easy!
Step 1) Put on tank stance
Step 2) Smack the boss
Step 3) Run BEHIND the boss so he turns around and his booty is facing the party
Step 4) cycle through your defense buffs one at a time.
Step 5) Move outside of red puddles and then back into position after.
You now know how to tank in FFXIV
"You're welcome."
Dont you miss when stance dancing between tank DPS and Aggro-gain stances were a thing? I dont.
Also for mob pulls-- 1- put on tank stance, 2- use aoe skills on mobs(dont use single target attacks your party will die), and 3- wait for everything to die
Step 6) Occasionally die for literally no reason so the healer (me) has to solo the boss because everyone else has also died because they're fucking idiots.
@@sugoistalin7809 But... As a Warrior, aren't I the healer?"
lmaoo i cant believe she had no clue until vanta told her
I can. My reasons were pretty similar for choosing Gladiator when I started. Only difference, I was happy when I found out I was a tank.
I honestly didn't know about roles either until I started playing ff14.
"How I accidentally became a tank" starring Elira Pendora of NijisanjiEN's first wave Lazulight 2024 🤣
Ngl that sounds like a fun premise. MC that wants to be a DPS, picks sword, slowly progress into the world, picks up a shield as well cuz can't be too careful, then gradually turn into the sturdiest wall in existence lol.
2:23 the music building up and her realizing is just funny and perfectly timed
okay, but can we all stop and take a moment to truly appreciate her hotbar, and how far she's gotten like this?
i am so bothered by her hotbar lol
outside of some different keybinds, I'm *still* going perfectly fine like this myself since stormblood 🤷♂️
Gurl still got the play guide chilling there even 💀
Honestly I am glad she got a role with more responsibility, you learn a lot that way that a DPS-only newbie might struggle to when they're already late game
And with the others all helping her out there's no worry that she'll figure things out without much duty finder related pain
I spent literal years as a DPS pretty much exclusively, though I swapped from BLM to RDM as soon as that Job was released and never looked back. That's probably why I was more comfortable as a dedicated Healer once I gave SGE a try, as RDM might be a good way for a veteran DPS player (particularly a Caster DPS main) to grow accustomed to Healer duties without just jumping right into a dedicated Healer role. I still remember the first few times I ever ran stuff as SGE (and I did it via a "Trial by Fire" via jumping into the Ivalice & Nier 24-man stuff, albeit not in Blind runs), I was actually praised for doing very well as a Healer, and that really helped to boost my confidence for sticking with SGE on a more long-term basis.
I'm not actively playing at the moment, but when I am, I play on Diabolos, so I'm on the Crystal Data Center. But if I ever wound up in a team with Elira, I'd be all too happy to lend her a hand as much as I could. That's the great thing about FF XIV, the community as a whole is in general very nice, friendly, and helpful. In all of the time I've played (cumulatively for over a year in total), I've only ever run into "toxic" players twice. All other times everyone has been nice and friendly, and in those instances of me trying out a new Job or Role (which I'm always quick to mention to my teammates) they are very patient as well.
I've played every role in Ultimates and honestly with the way they've been updating the last few years tank/healers are just DPS with slightly different mechanics (I know it's a meme but it's not exactly untrue), I don't really think any one role has more responsibility than the other. I know people probably think DPS players just go ungabunga and not learn but those are simply bad DPS players, just like how there are bad tanks and bad healers too.
To quote JoCat: "...none of that matters 'cos you get the muhfukkin sword and shield, BAYBEEEEEEEE!"
gotta appreciate all the tanks in all of MMO's they're the bros and have the bigger responsibilities they're all sought after in parties I hope she'll enjoy it
As a healer main, I appreciate a good tank~
"Turn on tank stance and hope for the best." I've leveled all tanks to 80 at least, multiple times. And lemme tell you, that is exactly how it feels.
She's just like me fr. I would love to see a 1h sword dps class in a mmo
You know, they really should have a clearer label on the starting classes regarding what they can become...
i did absolutely the same thing 😔
i'm a slut about axes and when i was making my character i saw the axe and just immediately clicked the confirm button. i SWEAR to god i had no idea the hellhole i was jumping into
Leroy Jenkin
My oshi is so smooth brained attacks will simply bounce off her. A+ tank
being tank actually really good if you play without friends like me cause the queue is much shorter than dps
but also, it's FF14, every class is DPS!
The other nice thing is that you don't have to risk running into bad or toxic tanks when you queue for dungeons, because you're doing it yourself. While I find FF14 has less toxic people than other online games, a lot of the toxic people play tank for some reason.
Every class can tank
being a pala is even better, you can act as a healer at the same time
Also, another thing with tank is you can also solo extreme trials to a certain point much easier than other classes
> but also, it's FF14, every class is DPS!
Always has been
good news, everyone is a DPS in FF14, blue dps, green dps, red dps
she thought she would become Noah but ended up as Zeon.
Dang Elira really trying to prove that god is the greatest armor 🤣🤣🤣
You had me at "I put on tank stance".
Her not picking Dragoon is both saddening and satisfying at the same time.
REYN TIME LETS GOOO!
A friend of mine also didnt realize Maurader was a tank cause Axe
It's a pretty reasonable mistake to make. Somehow both the Big Axe and Big Sword classes are tanks.
@@gmkgoat not to mention the Gunblade class of FFXIV (Gunbreaker) is also a tank.
Ewiwa: I put on tank stance and pray for the best.
MC raider me: The number of tanks I've seen forget that stance puts her to average if not above average with that one simple step. If she switches to sword and board while tanking instead of 2h then easily top 10%.
MC?
@@shamrocksardonic2582 Molten Core. A long ago end game raid.
in ff you don't have the choice to change weapon type or build for the wrong spec (mostly), so thankfully that's a whole set of potential issues averted :x
Glad to see elira enjoying ffxiv and others helping her 🥺
The community in FF XIV is the second most friendly and helpful MMO community I've ever been a part of. The only MMO that had an even better and nicer community is long gone, as it's official servers shut down back in 2014, that being Shin Megami Tensei: IMAGINE Online.
@@gamester512 I always thought toontown online's community was/is very helpful. Players are usually pretty eager to help, and even get their friends to help at the drop of a hat.
She will enjoy the "sea parts for we alone" and block the shield.
I also picked gladiator, not knowing it was a tank class, until that class quest, where you use the skill to draw enemies. That's when it hit me.
Literally
Me:
No need to worry Elira can pick Viper up in a few months for the dual sword action, and there is also red mage(uses rapier) and samurai from level 50 too.
thank you for the stream
I did the same thing. I saw the generic sword class and was like I want that
To my horror that I picked a tank 😅
It's great because there are FIVE classes in this game that use swords, and THREE of them are tanks, and one of the others is actually a mage with a rapier that only rarely uses the sword for a special combo. The last one is samurai and exclusively uses katana. If you want to DPS with western style swords you're SOL until Dawntrail debuts Viper lmao
Putting on tank stance is honestly like, 60% of the battle so. You're doing great, Elira!
Holy Vtuber Tank!
"I always used the sword character" *picture of a girl with a spear shows up* Hmmmm...
I am impressed that she didn't jump ship immediately upon finding out the class she picked is a tank, like 90% of all MMO players who will on principle only play DPS classes and never touch healing or tanking with a 10ft pole even once (due to... fear of responsibilities?).
It's not even a spear, it's a magic staff (made by a guy who puts laser blades on everything), Melia is probably the most straightforward "wizard" character in Xenoblade
makes it even funnier, honestly
I hope elira sticks with tanking, she really does downplay her skills as a gamer a lot so it's good to see her try something I have problems with doing.
She didn’t realise she was a tank, yet is now 51 PLD. So she must still be enjoying… though surprised DRK didn’t catch her eye, depending how far along MSQ she is. But would still be a tank, or that she didn’t change to DPS after finding out. Curious and glad she’s still playing.
Well she was in the crystal area so she probably didnt get into heavensward yet at the time of the clip
i did the same thing "ooo, sword, must be a simple dps character!"
Honestly, it's a huge relief on her end, because tanking is perfect for being a smooth brain out of all the classes lolz
I love using sword and shield in every single game, but sadly all of them are tanks
accepting a job without knowing what it does is the most Elira thing ever
and the best thing is that Classes ARE CALLED JOBS 😭😭😭
now tbf there ARE technically classes in the game. Technically stuff like rogue, gladiator, and conjurer are called classes, and it's only the advanced versions like ninja, paladin, and white mage that are "jobs". Basically anything with a job stone.
.....ignore crafters and gatherers.
@@ValkyrieTiara but.....she still accepted a job without knowing what it was 😭
blue and green DPS love 💚💙
Elira fits the role of tank well though.
Tank and pray? Definitely a paladin.
She gonna have to wait for Viper 😂 for the twin blade swordclass
they do need to make the class selection at the start more clear for newbies though
She'll be fine. Tanks in 14 are just Blue DPS
espec gunbreaker
I used to play DPS up until lv 60. I branched out to other classes and found out Tanking is so much fun. Good luck!!
It's okay Elira just put on tank stance, smack the boss and don't die. Tanking EZ
The moment you realize that none of the starting dps classes have a sword...
god she really is so dumb...
i love her
No, she's playing the class correctly, DPS and tank stance.
Tanking is more about awareness and decision making than anything, so in a way it can be more dynamic than playing a dps.
Tanking for scrubs:
1: Hit the tank stance
2: CLEAVECLEAVECLEAVECLEAVECLEAVECLEAVECLEAVECLEAVECLEAVECLEAVECLEAVECLEAVE
3: cycle through your defense buffs in between cleaves
4: wake up from your blackout on the DUTY COMPLETE screen
2:02 by that logic, conjurer and thaumaturge would be tanks too
How to tank.
Step 1; Activate tank stance.
Step 2; start swinging like a drunken man in a barfight. Everyone is a threat and must be hit. the more the better.
Step 3; Keep an eye out for tank busters
Step 4 (Optional); Remember to use your press to not die button.
Congratulations you can now tank in FF14.
They really should revamp the starting screens to be more clear about stuff like this, because I've heard this same story from SOOOOO many people, but mostly I just want them to make it so you can start as a freaking Rogue. It's so dumb that the quickest way is to pick something that starts in Limsa, get it to level 10 and do the job quests, THEN you can go pick up the Rogue quests. And it doesn't even tell you you'll switch to Ninja when you get a job stone.
A Tank is basically a girlboss becuz they set the pace for dungeons and raids
Sounds like an mmo isekai plot if it isn’t already one
To be fair, Gladiator's description during character creation mentions that some forego using a shield and focus only on swordplay, which implies that the class can be either a tank or a DPS. I can understand why new players would make the mistake of thinking this.
In my experience I personally find it easier to tank in FF14 than other mmos. It's kinda straightforward. Granted I haven't played in a year but I dunno I found it a lot less stressful then WoW tanking.
I think it helps dungeons are a bit more clear cut in FF14 and you don't necessarily have to learn a route to cut time like people do in Mythic Plus.
Also the rotation of a FF14 tank just feels smoother to me than some of the WoW tanks. It almost feels like a rhythm game lol. I feel like WoW tanking is a lot more reactive.
I'm probably not the best judge because I haven't seriously played WoW since BfA and I tanked in Legion. BfA dungeons annoyed the shit out of me from a tank perspective.
Happened to me with warrior......... i wanted to go to limsa and an axe, in my defense i thought tank just meant more HP not leading the party and hoarding the enemies and all of that, brain smooth.
Let's gooooo she's a GLD/PLD like me................
Thank you for the clip Seed! I know you found it difficult cause you don’t know much ffxiv, but you chose a great moment! Thank you for all the hard work 💙
To be fair, gladiator sounds like it could be a dps. But on the other hand, reading the description should make it pretty clear what it is.
Nah I get it. I picked Gladiator too cuz it had a sword, without knowing it was a tank when I first started playing lol
I feel like the game gives you
plenty of warning ahead of time.
And swapping class is a thing since
you can have all classes on a
single character in this game and
switch at will outside of dungeons.
Paladidn’t-pay-attention
Lira picked up ffxiv? Pog!
>pick gladiator cause dual sword icon unknowingly becoming a tank
>Gets Gabriel mount early
Shes just like me fr
I hate that i JUST missed out on getting a Gabriel mk 3 right before the price skyrocketted
It used to be 1-2 mil and was always just a couple hundred thousand outta my proce range then endwalker came out n though I've since made quite a bit on the market its still outta my grasp
Overwatch taught me that I like playing support classes so when I pick up FF14 I'm aiming for whatever the healer class is
While your Starting choice isn't super important since every class is playable on one character, starting off from character creation with the base game classes, the only option from the very start is conjurer which becomes white mage at lv 30, but while arcanist starts as a DPS you unlock scholar at 30 from it which is also a healer, and shares its level with its DPS counterpart in summoner. Once you start Heavensward after the post-base game quests you can also unlock Astrologian, and at Level 70, Sage becomes available.
It's just blue DPS
why is my oshi so dumb lmfaoooo i love her for that
omg I had the same problem with elira back then. because I like characters with swords, I chose gladiator and my friend told me it was a tank that should be the leader of the party. I was shocked and ended up getting tankxiety during the dungeon/raid. 🥲🥲 but now I'm happy with tanks (after knowing how the mechanic or what to do).
tbh everyone is a dps.
Tbf: paladin is to tanking as white mage is to healer: yeah, that is their main role... But i mean... Look at the damage?
She should've watched the crap guide to tank
I’m a full multi-classer, and at least 80% of my knowledge of every role is from binging those videos.
Don't listen to the Paladin lies! Gladiator is perfectly fine. I took gladiator up to 50 and then cleared technically endgame content like Titan with 7 scholars.
Tbf tanks are just blue dps in that game anyway
Wont ever play this game because i play warcraft, but i like to watch people play this
Warrior sound more your speed but pld aint bad
FWIW tanking is actually easier than DPSing in FFXIV so she kinda dodged a bullet lol You have more responsibility as a tank, but the gameplay and rotations of even the most complicated tank job are WAY easier than all but the simplest DPS job (currently machinist).
The fact that there's no actual sword DPS, until Dawn Trail, is still wild to me
rdm be like 🤺
Samurai, Red Mage, and Ninja
all the dps mains being like "tanking hard and important", lolno. Tanking is the most smoothbrain role in the game. You can fuck up every mechanic and still survive on account of being a tank. Meanwhile you screw up once as a healer and it's a wipe.
Honestly why i dont wanna toucb ff14; u have all these classes and i can't even rp as cloud
I'd like to be proven wrong
Oh God, the hotbars
Someone please tell her she can move buttons around
Also tanking is easy. When I play healer, I consider it MY failure if I let the tank die while they're 10 levels behind on gear and not pressing mits. Because that's just how easy normal content is.
Elira,
picks tank,
doesn't know what the f*** she's doing,
thinks she's a DPS.
Yep, that's a classic FFXIV tank right there.
That sword's look is def. not a DPS 😂
don’t they tell you the role of the class before you pick it in the beginning?
did she just pick it by picture?
Tbf, the class progression doesn't make sense
"I just put on tank stance and pray for the best"
Meanwhile, her healers are standing there begging her to press a mitigation button.
"wat?" lmao wiwa is SO SILLY,
good thing you can change class and keep some of your skills to equip on your oth- oh wait they clumsily butchered out the game's fun unique trait years ago by removing cross class skills and giving everybody a pool of boring "role-based" moves, NEVERMIND!
>Implying that cross-class skills don’t massively disrespect the player’s time and agency by forcing them to play a bunch of different classes in order to make the most out of a single class instead of just letting them have all the fun they can by just, y’know, _playing the fucking class they want to play._
Save that time-sink shit for the single-player games that don’t require a subscription to play.
"All I do is put on tank stance," already better than 20% of tanks out there.
