I discovered your channel fairly recently. Your videos are an invaluable addition to the FM community and have really given me food for thought on how I play the game. I do wonder though whether you actually have time to play the game yourself with all the time you devote to this research. Keep up the great work!
Hello Max, thanks for all your hard work! Love that you are smiling when presenting your work progress. Also thanks for getting us real information with evidence. Your channel is very different to the standard FM content and this is very appreciated.
Wanted to say a big thanks to you. I know there was a little drama with Zealand BUT i knew this channel from that drama and i dont care a little(and i believe 99% viewers not caring) about who is right. It can be a little upsetting if someone dont believe you, or something like this, but in the end it does not matter, since the finaly product is amazing and it does not matter how it is created for default viewer. I appreciate a lot of work put in it. Zealand's videos are amazing, your videos are masterpiece and honestly i am really thrilled to see your future videos! Keep your work up and more people will come, i am more than sure. Espeecially considering that fm25 will have new game engine it will be a lot of work and i m looking for a future. Thanks again :)
HOYD's nation knowledge level is an another factor I have seen mentioned in some forum discussions. I am sceptical of this but would love to see some hard data behind it. Last two videos have been really useful, mate!
Thank you so much for your evidence based analysis! To me, your work has been groundbreaking and insightful. You were right, the community needed someone with your methodical and fact based approach: to me it has been much more insightful than people just reading ingame descriptions out loud on RUclips... So truly Max, thank you for your amazing work, and I hope you'll keep going for a long time!
I almost don't want to suggest this and add more work for you, but I think it could be interesting to see if there is a difference depending on which youth intake it is. This year I have found tat the first year always results in higher PA youth players, so doing these tests on the 2nd/3rd youth intake could have different results? However....great work as always, loved it!
1000% I knew I wasn't the only one! I am CONVINCED that the game presents the user with good first intakes to keep them interested in the save. This is the kind of evidence I would be highly interested in!
Thank you for all the research. I've been watching almost all of your videos lately and it's very great info. It also worries me how much "stats" SI gives us, with so many stats not even mattering in f.e. development. Keep up the good work! And congrats on the 10k+ (12,4k as we speak) subs!
The first time I saw your video, I knew you were something special. I played Football Manager for more than a decade, and always hated how every existing advice or guide on tactics to training were just based on anecdotes and narratives. But I never had the expertise or drive to do what you did. I only wished you existed 10 years when I was sinking 1000+ hours into football manager lol. Congrats on hitting 10k subs, you deserved it and much more.
Just wanted to comment to say thanks for these videos. As a long time FM player doing career saves usually in lower leagues, it's great to see some proper analysis on what impacts certain stats have, as it helps to make the right choices when playing. Really appreciate the insights!
Thanks for everything you've done for the FM community, you are a legend that not enough people know about yet. Congrats on the 10k and no need to reply.
Great to see the extra tests, and looking forward to the following videos, given how much I bothered you with my feedback on the subject :P And yeah, congrats on the 10k subs (almost 13k now), your work is really appreciated. As you said, 99% of the info available on the game has always been completely anecdotal (often bordering on full blown urban legend), with the tests done on FMArena probably being the only exception. But even those have always been mostly oriented on brute forcing the game one way or another, not necessarily on understanding how it works and why some things work the way they do (with the arguably lone exception of the attribute by attribute relevance to match performance tests). Your contribution is extremely useful to the scene, thanks!
Thanks for the great content. I've been playing football manager games on and off for about 30 years and I've learnt a lot from your channel. Keep up the great work ❤
Absolute legend! Waiting with bated breath for the rest of the series. Congrats on 10k it is 100% deserved ❤ I wonder if HOYD scouting knowledge has an effect on the intakes? Broader knowledge = more foreign/talented youngsters maybe?
Thanks mate, I'm also intrigued by HOYD scouting knowledge, but this is a parameter that can't be changed using the editor, so bit difficult to test. I'll see what I can do.
@@ebfm I have done so with my own HOYD because I am getting fed up of terrible intakes so I gave him 100% knowledge of all the best youth rated countries in the world. I will let you know how my next intake goes!
This is the video (and series) I've been waiting the most since I sub to your channel as this is the most beautiful part of the game, at least for me! Thanks a lot Max!!
From a newly happy subscriber Im just glad that your findings all seems logical to what I think should affect the intakes.. Strange to be that there would be so many FM players that has started play the game w/o having any clues of football at all ?? I do love your investigations and Im glad to have found your channel. Keep up the good work. PS reply not necessary from Max... I will not get offended LOL
It would be interesting to see if the head of youth development's coaching attributes (such as attacking, defending, fitness, mental, technical, tactical) affect CA and archetype of youth players coming through the academy. In theory would a HOYD with high fitness ratings result in youth prospects more initially able in the physicals category. Appreciate the hard work that goes into these videos!!
Another INCREDIBLE video & dive into the youth intakes. I sure can't wait for the next one, and I'm definitely going to be looking into staff a bit more closely in the future
Congrats on the 10k sub. *WWE chant - YOU DESERVE IT~! clap, clap, clapclapclap~! Really starting to grow into this channel too. Maybe I share my humble opinion as a casual player of FM20 (started around CM97? But real life means less time, ha) ... What we players want, is that 5* potential kid every intake, meaning - a kid with a really high PA. Ideally with high Professionalism. Your results have already been very, very helpful, as shown by the increase in subs. Just that some folks are starting to push your one-man-operation resources onto ... too many things. It seems that you do know the goal too, so ... just wanna say it out loud. *whispering scouting budget ... ☺ Ultimately, nothing beats a Save/Load, Holiday-ing until the T3 period where we can see the kids' ratings. Too many variables in the first place. It's why I dont Save/Load the game after knowing how to play the game (have never even see the CA/PA ratings in-game). Having played some 30+ seasons on my FM save, generally a world-beater every 8-10 seasons. So, it ... averages itself out, so to speak? P.S. Just got another average Youth Preview, but ... didnt wanna Save/Load to alter my match results. Maybe I really should just Save/Load a Youth Preview to ... test. 😅
Hey mate appreciate the support! Yes, getting those 5 star wonderkids is everyone's goal! The role played by Scouting Budget will be tested in the Part 3 video.
May you do a experiment about junior affiliates that send youth players to the team? Like whether it’s the junior affiliate clubs’ youth recruitment or our team’s youth recruitment that affects the player’s PA and CA. There are so many variables to discuss and I thought this could be very interesting! Especially for a player like me who always try to get junior affiliate clubs that are in countries that have high youth rating.
Hey mate, I never make use of my affiliates so I'm not too familiar with the feature, but I can look into it sure. Even if the newgens of affiliates are dependent on the variables of the affiliate club, would it benefit your own club ultimately? Wouldn't all the loanees sent to your club by the affiliates go back to their clubs?
@@ebfm There is actually a kind of junior affiliate club that will help you get new gen from their country~ I play the game in Chinese, but I think the description is probably as follows: Senior club can send their players on loan to the junior club, and the junior club will promote the chance of their good new gen to the senior club. For example, in my Newcastle save, I have a french club as my junior affiliate. So I get 1 french new gen almost every season. But I don’t know whether it is my club or the junior club that determine this new gen’s ability~
@@Ning28112 Interesting, I didn't know that. It will indeed be worth investigating whether the quality of the newgen depends on the facilities of your own club or those of the affiliate club. It will be done.
@@ebfm Yeah i was using the affliates from random countries in the hopes of getting wonderkid from some obscure country. Would be good to know if it can affect my youth intakes negatively :D
Love the channel! And very happy you’re smashing this topic and channel in general! I have a test for youth academy for PA & CA (have proposed this before but you’ve answered most already!) 1. Are the personalities impacted by all other coaches / staff in the club. This is due to new gens having favoured personal when they come through and seems to be reflective of those. 2. There is also a question of if the quality / quantity of coaches in all teams effect youth intake. U21/U18/senior. 3. What stats for HOYD are most important when it comes to Youth intake. Not just the top three working with youngsters, judging potential and ability but also coaching attributes… I.e. attacking / defending - giving more to the new regens. I feel like the timeline one (before December preview) will have the most impact to all of these. Last question - how important are affiliate clubs (quantity and quality - youth facilities etc) - this is a hit topic with all the youth academy challenges, if they are worth having - especially foreign clubs with high nation rep countries. Love the content keep it up
Hey bud, I'm diving into Timeline 1 (Youth Preview) in the next video, so the queries you raised will be addressed there. Few others have also suggested testing the role of Affiliate Clubs. It will be done.
Really notable quite how big a difference junior coaching is having. That jump in PA is not only quite something on the graph but makes a massive change in gameplay.
Damn that looks like a lot of work, thank you for your hard efforts Max! A suggestion: You might need a 4th point in time to complete a thorough analysis: Several seasons later after you've made the test changes. I would bet that some variables noticeably influence the youth intake only over the course of several years. As we can see whenever we get a message that a 12 year old has been poached by another club, FM might simulate several generations of intake already before you can even see it. It would make sense that e.g. HOYD personality and junior coaching facilities would have a lot more impact over many years as opposed to one day or 4 months.
Hey mate, very interesting point you bring up about little kids being poached 'behind the scenes'. The problem with running any tests that are longer than a season is that lots of variables start coming into play (transfers, staff members moving around etc.) But it is indeed possible that some variables eg. HOYD reputation have benefits that only become apparent after 1-2 seasons.
Thanks for the vid again! Always use your findings to optimise my saves. I don’t know if you are going to test it, but it would be interesting to see whether the quality of your scouts changes anything about your intakes. Once a year I get a message from one of the scouts telling me some youngster has been taken over from another club which makes me think the ability of your scouts influences the youth intake.
Always imagined that the scouting budget should have an impact too. I mean, it made sense, right? 😅 Another one is the general knowledge of the players of a region/country. Like, the more you know Brazil, the better the chances of finding the next fat Brazilian Ronaldo, right?
Excellent stuff as always - this and the last video. I had heard that the reputation and nationality of the HoYD might affect the youth intake. It would be great to have some insight into that, too. Edit - I see you have already answered this, thank you.
Well done mate!i discovered your channel 1 year ago and gave me some gamechanging information!thank you P.s. Please ,please ,please, consider scouting for your next topic.there are a lot of urban legens around it
1st congratulations for the 10k subs I remember watching a video mentioning that the training facility affects youth intake not the youth facility. If you can test this hypothesis that will be much appreciated. Keep up the good work
Hey Max congrats with your 10k. Can you look if personalities of the staff and nation has an (Big) effect on youth intake. Especially if you have staff of a lot of the same nation & lots of staff with Good/Neutral/Bad personalities. And if all staff affect the Youth intake or only U18 + HOYD
Great work! I have a suggestion for a series of future tests: more than anything you've covered so far, what I would like to know FOR A FACT is what each attribute really does. For example, does 20 Finishing and 1 Composure lead to more goals than 1 Finishing 20 Composure? Does having high Technique improve Passing, or is it just Passing that improves passing? How is the outcome of key actions (crossing, shooting, etc.) really calculated and what does each attribute truly do? That's probably going to be much harder to test than most things you've done so far, but you're clearly the right man for the job.
Hey mate, the test you mentioned can be done, in fact the setup won't even be difficult. Set up a controlled match, change the attributes, repeat like crazy and record the match stats / player stats. The main problem is that many attributes in FM23 (supposedly) work in conjunction with each other. You may have to change 2-3 attributes as a set for any changes to occur - this means that I'll need a 2-variable or even 3-variable tests which will obviously blow up the volume of work required. I shall keep it in my list of things to test in the future.
Love your videos Max! I'm really interested in the consistency stat, I never buy players who are inconsistent but I don't actually know how important it is.
Unrelated to the topic but as someone who has fairly recently (relatively speaking) discovered your channel and has since watched almost every video you have uploaded (amazing content by the way, much appreciated! Thank you) there is one topic I've noticed you have not touched which I would love to see being broken down the way you do. And that is Team Fluidity. How does very structured, structured, flexible, fluid and very fluid differentiate? How does the movement and behavior differ? How does it effect 'team work', as in, watching the team perform on the pitch how likely or unlikely is it that player A covers for player B or Player X and Y helps Player Z in a Defensive task if overloaded? And what effect does, say, team Instructions such as Be More Expressive in a structured side or Be More Disciplined in a fluid side respectively have on a tactic? As someone who has a strong bias towards fluid tactics these questions would be great to have answered, if only, to understand whether the bias is unfounded and should be done away with or not. Keep in mind, this is coming from someone obsessed with Totaalvoetball inspired by Rinus Michel, Johan Cruyff, Louis van Gaal (Ajax '94) and in our more recent history Pep Guardiola and trying to blend it together with the Box Midfield tactics seen recently under De Zerbi at Brighton and the use of Trent Alexander-Arnold by Jürgen Klopp as an Inverted Playmaker from the right back position with Pep, Xavi and Klopp seemingly trying to replicate the Box Midfield shapes De Zerbi have been using in a 4-3-3 as a base that morphs into a 3-2-2-3 and my tactical creations in Football Manager tends to be heavily centred around these factors (although perhaps a bit more direct similar to van Gaal with the '94 iteration of Ajax). If this is something that you don't have any plans to look at I understand. But I for one would greatly appreciate it and be locked in if you decided to do so in particular due to my obsession with Totaalvoetball and fluidity.
Hey bud, appreciate the support. Tactics is an area I've relatively neglected. I have done a video on the FM Scout channel regarding Team Mentality before (ruclips.net/video/pP7XlWcz4GE/видео.html) but Team Mentality isn't strictly the same as Fluidity. I can possibly look into Fluidity in the future, so stay tuned!
Hello EBFM! Wanted to say thanks for all the info you've just provided! Had been thinking about doing some similar stuff a while ago as I'm a long serving FM and even CM manager, but never got the time or the 'firepower' to conduct these tests quickly enough... Be that as it may, I've just wanted to ask whether you could try to test HotYD reputation effect on both CA/PA as well as hidden attributes? It's been some years since I've come across the info, somewhere, that HotYD reputation has quite a big effect on both, and I remember getting, so to speak, small scale testing results as positive, in one of my saves on maybe FM19 or so. Once again, thanks for all the effort, hope you try testing this, but won't hold a grudge even if you don't :D P.S. You got yourself another subscriber today :)
I salute a veteran from the CM days! HOYD Reputation was tested in this video, although I didn't mention it specifically. 5:50 you can get a glimpse of the relationship between HOYD Reputation and CA/PA. Or you can go to my Dropbox link and view the full details yourself. In the next video I'll be looking at the Youth Preview event. HOYD Reputation will be included in that video as well.
Just read a bit more thoroughly, and saw the rep change in the sheet, so my apologies, was mostly listening the first time so it slipped as I'm not native English speaker. Thanks for the response, and keep up the good work! 👏
One thing that I would have found interesting: If you sack a HoYD before the intake and get a new one - will the youngsters be influenced by the new one? Because to me the "side experiment" suggests that a youngster gets "attached" to a HoYD at the preview date. On the announcement date, the stats of the attached (ex-)HoYD are checked to influence the players. This would explain the side experiment and it makes sense from a programming standpoint. It could be tested by sacking the HoYD before the intake and then still adjust his stats to all 20s and all 1s to see whether he impacts the intake still.
Hey mate, absolutely, the reason I didn't see any difference in the quality of the youth in this video (when I sacked the HOYD just before the Youth Announcement) could indeed be because the newgens are influenced by the ex-HOYD and not the new one. The same test will be repeated at the other timepoints in my future videos so maybe there'll be a difference in the results.
No response required! I discovered you today, my mind is blown! Great work, keep it up! Thanks again And... Just so you know. I've always wondered how to keep players fit and free of injury. I focus in on stamina and natural fitness which makes sense to me. However having seen natural fitness is supposed to affect decline and you've shown it doesn't make an impact could it instead effect injury proneness or work hand in hand with stamina? If ever you find the time! I would love to know for sure Again. Amazing work. Great to have found you
Hey mate, The injuries / fitness is an area that requires further research. I've touched on the subject briefly here and there but it's not enough. It's an area I can possibly get into when FM24/25 comes out. Stay tuned!
I think you should provide a more visualized graph instead of the current one. Example, instead of showing the average PA/CA of the players based on a certain variable like youth coaching 1/10/20, why not use the increase/decrease to better illustrate the change? Anyway, appreciate the effort to come up with this kind of experiments and data which helps us to understand the game better. Cheer mate, waiting for your next video.
You know it's a good day when you check your RUclips notifications & get a new EBFM upload. Keep delivering those amazing experiments
Your channel is more valuable than every other FM channel combined.
Thanks mate, next video will be up in a few days!

Truly amazing channel every video is class, as you say incredible value in resolving those myths, congrats🎉
Agreed that this would be very valuable info. Affiliates could probably be its own full video.
I see an EBFM vid, I watch with great interest. Really appreciate the hard work you put into these.
Massive congrats on the 10k.
concratz on 10k. lot of useful info as usual cant wait the next one.
Congrats on 10k Max.
I'm really excited for this series
Love the channel! And very happy you’re smashing this topic and channel in general!
I have a test for youth academy for PA & CA (have proposed this before but you’ve answered most already!)
Love the content keep it up
Hey bud,
I'm diving into Timeline 1 (Youth Preview) in the next video, so the queries you raised will be addressed there.
Few others have also suggested testing the role of Affiliate Clubs. It will be done.
Wonderful work as always, we appreciate the videos
Great work as always. Bit unrealiable in its current state as the whole topic since test must be done before the first youth report as well
Amazing job as always, another thing that could be fun to test is affiliate clubs and their influence on the youth intake
Subscribed and also looking forward for further experiments
Congratulation mate! Well done! Now aim to 100k!
Congratz on the 10k!
Really notable quite how big a difference junior coaching is having. That jump in PA is not only quite something on the graph but makes a massive change in gameplay.
Yes, I must say, Junior Coaching has been the breakout star of this series so far.
This one mean ... the U18 coaches?
Damn, these guys are hard to hire and keep (if they are good, they get poached to become managers themselves?)
@@Chengyuan79 No, it means junior coaching. it's something you can ask the board to improve like youth facilities
@@jpeters1734 ah. Good to know. Thank you so much! 🫡
I love your channel! I found it through the Zealand debacle.
Congratulations 🎉. You deserve it. Your work is unique. Thanks . One suggestion is to try including youth coach personality and attributes too
Thanks for the content. Much appreciated ❤
Congrats on 10k brother!!
i just found your channel, but i want to say don't quit
you deserve 10 times more subs dude. Thanks for putting in all the effort
Interesting video again :)
Hey bud, some people also told me that the quality of your scouts may be a factor. Will test it out mate
Always imagined that the scouting budget should have an impact too. I mean, it made sense, right? 😅
Another one is the general knowledge of the players of a region/country. Like, the more you know Brazil, the better the chances of finding the next fat Brazilian Ronaldo, right?
How this guy only has 13k subs I'll never know!
Excellent stuff as always - this and the last video. I had heard that the reputation and nationality of the HoYD might affect the youth intake. It would be great to have some insight into that, too. Edit - I see you have already answered this, thank you.
Well done mate!i discovered your channel 1 year ago and gave me some gamechanging information!thank you
P.s. Please ,please ,please, consider scouting for your next topic.there are a lot of urban legens around it
Hey mate, few people told me that scouting is related to the Youth Intake mechanics in FM so I will be exploring scouting in this series.
Still loving your work!!!
Congratulations my guy.
1st congratulations for the 10k subs
I remember watching a video mentioning that the training facility affects youth intake not the youth facility. If you can test this hypothesis that will be much appreciated.
Keep up the good work
Appreciate the series mate very nice!
Yess another intake video my favoutite FM topic :)
@@ebfm that's great to hear! Thanks a lot for reading and responding :)
Keep up the good work! ❤❤❤
big thank you from france
Once again, thanks for all the effort, hope you try testing this, but won't hold a grudge even if you don't :D
Great video! I wish I found your channel sooner! Keep up the good work - New subscriber!
Fantastic video as always
Thanks again
And...
I would love to know for sure
Again. Amazing work. Great to have found you
Hey mate,
The injuries / fitness is an area that requires further research.
Loving it mate!
