As tempting as it is to go along with this sentiment, I would actually say that a more accurate comparison would be that Avengers: Twilight is Marvel's Dark Knight Strikes Again (except good). Allow me to elaborate: - Far-future world where superheroes are largely outlawed/a thing of the past - Government is secretly controlled by a fascist teaming up with an evil robot - Main plot revolves around re-forming all the old heroes and their successors as an underground resistance - Disgruntled child of one of the heroes is now a villain - Not very subtle about commentary on American politics
@mathewblaine1109 It really isn't. I'm sorry, but Earth X makes no sense whatsoever and had one of the dumbest reveals I have ever seen. The only thing I genuinely liked about Earth X was Reed being Doom
I feel like Steve Rogers smells like a cross between a well-worn leather wallet that is always reliable and is filled with sandwich punch cards and business cards, and a fresh baked apple pie.
I could, honestly, listen to Sal talk about comics for the rest of my life. There’s just something about the way he retells these stories that makes me so engrossed. He, Arris, and Benny (ooooof… still don’t wanna admit that he’s gone) have done so much for me. They reintroduced me to the world of comic books. I’m thankful for all they’ve done, and will continue to do. Please never stop, Sal. ❤️

James Stark, side by side with a literal fascist, commanding an army of deadly drones, and a brainwashed monster facing one of the greatest heroes of his time and a god: "Oh boy. This is going to get worse before it gets better." Did Jimmy get that trait from his dad? Or his mom?
I dunno why, but "Chiptember" made me burst out laughing. Also, I knew Tiffany would make the Watchmen comparison because I had the same thought after Sal mentioned the Avengers group photo.
I really enjoyed this book. I remember talking to Chip Zdarsky back in NYCC last year and he was very happy for this to be one of his last books at marvel for now, and I gotta say it didn't dissapoint and I loved it. At the time no info was public about this but he did mention it would be dystopian, and when I asked him why he did this story (along with Daredevil and Life Story) he told me "I just write the cool shit I want to see happen."
Hi! I’m a long time fan and first commenter (sorry if this is wordy I rarely get to talk about captain America) and I’m not quite comic savvy but the whole captain America “iron suit thing” yes he purged the super soldier serum from himself by science but it was I believe during the whole “streets of poison” arc and it was like dumber then “cap realized his powers from drug so he purged it” TLDR cap like realized “drugs were a problem” so he busts one drug den it explodes and the drugs got in him (comics!) and the supersoldier serum like “bonded” with so cap was constantly like tweaking (I don’t remember exactly if he was like in a state of withdrawal) eventually he had to flush the serum out of him. Then it came back (because comics) and then it turned out that because cap was at so peak physical stress in a constant basis because of the serum was like burning his body up and paralyzing him and he needed to stop and when he didn’t stop he had to wear the suit to function and then of course it got reversed. Anyway sorry for the ramble I just know too much of the comic reason he had to wear that ugly suit
Hulk can’t hold his breath indefinitely, but his body has been shown to adapt to airless environments, like deep space or the bottom of the ocean. His body once literally grew special organs to equalize the pressure and enable him to filter oxygen from water (essentially gills), so he’s not able to be drowned. And I don’t hold it against Zadarski for not knowing (he can be forgiven for not knowing some obscure lore about hulk) same with Sal, whose openly said he’s not a Hulk fan, so he wouldn’t know either.
Captain America definitely smells like a little whiskey, fresh cut grass because he looks like he does amaizng lawn care, tabaco because you know Tony smoked like a chimney when he hit the bottle and a good cologne - somebody, for his birthday, probably Natasha, gave him a bottle.
Was looking forward for this one, definitely didn't expect another Chip book so soon. There was a weird thing going on with the sound on this one though (I think it was Tiffany's hair?)
Captain America smells like apple pie on the wind, cedar bark after a light rain, smell of hands after washing the dirt from your long days work...and a slight smell of fresh pencils.
It's my headcanon that when Steve gave that impassioned speech on the live feed, Ultron messed with the feed as it was going, (he would be powerful enough to do that after all) Bullseye was the only one who truly heard what he really said, that's why she was the only one who turned
Chip might also be saying something about central figures (figures put forward by culture and media) getting all the blame for wider issues. With an emphasis on the people in power being that focus. Then also all of the things behind people in power etc etc
I think Joel hit the nail on the head when he was covering this book month to month, that while this book tries to be hopeful with this quasi Dark Knight Returns/Kingdom Come resurgence from the heroes of old, real world present day cynicism somewhat dulls the message and themes of the book
Personally I found the subtext of America being hypnotized by the rose-tinted concept of heroes who only exist in CGI to be a tad undercut by the rest of Marvel Comics tripping over themselves to synergize with the MCU
@@ItsTheFizz Al Ewing hit the nail on the head in Immortal Thor when he had Dario Agger monologue about how corporations can freely satirize themselves because the satire itself becomes just another product of the corporation that they can profit from

A weird snapshot of Marvel at the time: IIRC by the time the final issue was out Slott’s "Tony and Janet are gonna get married and Nadia sees Tony as her father-in-law" was gone and dusted offscreen. The Iron Man run right after went with Hellcat as the "totally getting married to another hero!" pairing. And then the one right after that failed was all about Tony and Emma getting married(with Emma under an assumed name so not really).

Avengers twilight is such an interesting what if story and like you said kingdom come except for the avengers which is cool in my opinion.

Wait that's happened to Janet as well?
Both?
All of the elseworld stories for DC and Marvel done on here have been so cool
I really like the choice to make James's parents Tony and Janet. James's choice to never wear the suits harkens to Janet's time as a fashion designer.
