Congratulations on being adopted by your new cat! A tip for pet owners who sew: Set up a decoy project whenever you are getting ready to work on something. Lay out some fabric that you will not be using and pretend to be very interested in it. Your pet will lie on this fabric, leaving you free to lay out your real fabric and cut out what you need before they move. (If they do move before you are done with the fabric you are actually using, pretend to work on the decoy fabric for a few minutes, and they will move back to it. If this doesn’t work, then you can use treats to bribe them.)
Thank you! No cat, my DOG takes over any projects I am working on. Lays in the middle and since she is a corgi, she leaves massive fluff behind. Too cute to admonish her, so my projects don't get done. Let's see if a "decoy" project fools one of the smartest breeds of dog. Here's hoping.
I have a black cat that sheds. I have set up what I call "Kitty Jail." This is the bathroom where the litter box is. I put in a food and water dish, place him gently in the "compound," and close the door! This way, I keep my temper and do not say terse😬 things. Some of which might be true.😉
Sewing chiffon is a 7th level of hell activity, so kudos to you! Ruffling by hand is a 5th circle of hell craft... so more kudos! Dying polyester, ALL the circles of hell. ALL the Kudos! This was a difficult project and you nailed it. Thanks so much for suffering for my enjoyment.
1. Congrats on the cat 2. The way you sprinkle in le français is super helpful for a still very bad French speaker! I will never again forget “there” because Ariel pointed to the the sky and said “là, là, là!”
I remember I bought the short version of this cloud dress from Selkie right before I found out I was laid off from my job I had been working for the past twelve years. It was the only new purchase I kept from that period of time in my life because the fluffy twirling skirt and light cloud pattern reminded me of how this might still suck recovering financially but I'm finally free from that extremely toxic work environment. And oh my gosh, YOUR DRESS IS SO MUCH MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN THE REAL SELKIE ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! May you enjoy your own freedoms while wearing it ❤Much love!
Hazariel, have you ever seen the Carol Burnett Show skit of Gone With The Wind? It has a great dress from curtains. 🙃 Love your creativity and enthusiasm in your videos. Cheers.
First project from the new space! This turned out beautiful! Thank you for the French seam instructions. I will go get a croissant the next time I see one. 😂
The dress is beautiful! I plan on making a less sheer Selkie type dress with old bedsheets and either reclaimed lace or embroidery on the bodice. Don't know which one yet. Also, I think that is now your cat. They seemed to have claimed you.
I love that you reuse old fabric like curtains. I don't sew a lot but most of the things I've sewn have been from thrift store bed sheets lol fabric is so expensive
Amazing result! That cat is absolutely gorgeous omg. It might be worth taking them to a vet to check for a microchip or asking around any neighbours you have nearby if they are/know of anybody missing a cat. The baby seems very friendly and well looked after so I doubt they are a stray. Fingers crossed they are reunited with their family! And if not, well they seem to like and trust you, may as well let yourself be adopted by the kitty x3 ❤
Absolutely lovely! The reveal in your garden looked so beautiful and dreamlike. And thank you also for proper instructions on doing french seams the croissant way, it's all so much clearer now😊
Lovely dress! The music and aesthethics of the reveal made me think the dress has a really 70's, gunney sax vibe, esp with your hair, love it! also the "this is not my cat" ehehe, many times how a person ends up with a cat :"D , but maybe the cat is just living a double life and also has a family elsewhere and telling them it's going on business trips when it's hanging out with you! :"D
You’ve been chosened by the cat for your excellence. This dress turned out so gorgeous. And I adore your videos. Watching you have fun and be goofy is the best. I’m a goofy, dancing person too. Congrats on the new house. Can’t wait to see what’s next.
Long Zip ties are good for boning.I’m 67 but when I was a child tie dye was very popular…we used to do reverse tie dye ..first dye the entire piece and later use Bleach (j’avalasse ?) to make a negative pattern doing so.remember you can overdye the light one…haha while I wathced further you did the bleach. Love all your work…merci!
That dress turned out lovely! Great job. Looks like you do have a cat now! I found having cats, when I lived in the country, to be essential. Without the cats the mice would have taken over the house. We had 2 neutered male barn cats. They never wanted to be in the house! They lived to be 17 & 20 yrs old!
Two suggestions that may help! 1-use zip tie bodies for boning! Works wayyyyy better and is cheap! And 2-get a hand held portable projector! Use it to project your pattern from your phone or wherever onto the fabric. Which can hang or be on the floor. It’s helped me immensely! Good luck 👍🏽 always looking for cheaper dollar store ways to do the same stuff. Also, get a rotary cutter girl! Save your hands 🙌🏽
The reveal portion of the video stylistically reminds me of what we Americans called Spaghetti Westerns from the late sixties and early seventies. It was quit well done. I especially liked the whimsical cut to the cat walking toward the camera. It's effect was funny and deconstructed the genre.
Oh my goodness, it’s so beautiful!! I have vowed to never take on French seams (even with proper instructions, now, thanks to you) but seeing the ethereal beauty of your gown is really tempting me! It’s just so gorgeous!! I love it! And now I need a croissant 🥐
I really appreciate how you problem solve and show how you managed your process. Also the @theclosethistorian is incredible. Thank you for this most entertaining video. I'm sure it's not easy to create new content while renovating a house while also being adopted by a new cat.
New house. New view. New dress. ... New cat! I hope if the kitty has a owner, it finds them, but if not...I think you have a new sewing (and modelling it would seem) companion.
I think I may have said this before, but if not - I don't sew, not into cosplay or anything at all related, but damnit if your channel isn't refreshing. Great to watch when work sucks.
That’s turned out so wonderful! Definitely got a good amount of swoosh!! I’m not brave enough to try dying but I love watching everyone else do it. Also your new home is truly amazing. Love the views
It’s easy to dye fabrics, it’s the space that’s the hardest to get 😹😹😹I have to wait for a nice hot sunny day as this helps me as I place much of what I dye into clear plastic bays leave in the hot sun under something that helps to transmit the heat to the bags during the day, leave out for a few days for a very vibrant colour. I have an all white polyester dress, (when I bought it online it said it was all cotton that’s what I bought it) had to buy the dye meant for polyester but I still not done anything with it. I’m use to natural fibers for dying but I like how she was painting on the dye so that I might try 😹😹😹but we are going into winter now so will keep it for next summers project.
Ariel, I have a very important technical question. My husband went to visit family in Paris this week and brought home croissants and macarons. I need to sew tomorrow. The croissants are long gone, but we still have macarons left. Can I use those for French seams, or must it be a croissant?
Everything is all stunning, dress amazing but you started dancing in the yard full of flowers which could have bees, with no shoes on. Everything is beautiful until you get stung, Please stay safe.😊
I love dresses that can move with the person and with the breeze. The colors looked cloudy, flowing and suited the dress. My dye jobs usually look a little like a pre-k(kindergarten) art project, so I have retired my dyes to the back of a closet. BTW I think that the cat that was said to NOT be Ariel's cat, thinks he or she IS Ariel's cat.
I wish I could do my french seams like you do! Would be waaaaay more fun. Very nice dress. It feels very cottagecore to me. I hope the dye does not fate too much? I had those problems...
I guess it's your cat now 😄 Dress looks awesome 👍 it must have taken for ever to get the right colour. But please, just stay still for second 😄 so we can actually admire it, thank you.😊
How many hours was that total!? Curtain destruction, tie dying, more dying, bad iron, rainbow, sewing and re sewing ... I love your problem solving and wonderful dress

Since you keep seeing rainbows, perhaps that is a sign that you need a rainbow accessory to go with this dress.
