A man who mastered Bach in the 70’s (at least enough to enduringly record him), plays Schumann in his old age with an agility both astounding and beautiful. Thank you Maestro Schiff
This is such a unique performance of the concerto that I think I have to listen to it a few more times to form my judgement. First thought is interesting, then at times it felt a bit strange, but I enjoy the new take on bringing out all the voices no other pianist brings out. Thank you for uploading such an interesting performance.
Thank you, Anson Yeung, for giving this to us again! Schiff is a very happy man - we love seeing him smile - when he works with a good orchestra who like and understand him, and he reciprocates the feelings. 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Totally captivating and enjoyable. Don’t really have the words to say how very much I loved this. Sir András is working and making music at a sublime level, and is living proof that an orchestra and soloist do not necessarily need a “god” up front waving a little stick. Thank you to Sir András, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Prometheus and RUclips.
I admired Sir Andras the most out of all pianists, but increasingly in recent years he has been skipping notes, sometimes in extremely obvious spots - such as the opening here.
Oudtshoornify he is my least favourite pianist, but objectively speaking he is much more at home in earlier repertoire. I have boundless admiration for many great pianists of the past, for instance Rosalyn Tureck who gave Schiff 0 point at Leeds Competition.
Very poor opening. Over the years I've seen him having quite a few memory / coordination problems. Bartok 3rd cto at Proms, Bartok 2nd with Rattle, Beethoven 2nd concerto with Haitink in Edinburgh. Come to think of it - it's always been with orchestras
@John Morris Russell : Interesting. I don’t think they are memory problems - his memory is phenomenal - but (to me) they seem to be a kind of nervousness which has manifested itself during the past couple of years. At Gstaad, on one occasion, his hands were trembling. My heart went out to him; still does, when his troubles are evident. He loves music “more than life itself” (heard him say this), considers it a privilege and a gift, and works terribly hard at it. Short while ago, he introduced his recital at Wigmore Hall in London, saying he would perform the “Hammerklavier” and adding “Many years ago I could play all the notes but didn’t understand a thing about the Sonata; now, I’m afraid it’s just the opposite. But what does one do? Just give up?” Such humility is very rare in a concert musician. I deeply admire the man. Errors of notes or not, the love and spirit of the music are always there. As is the knowledge. He is a musicianly treasure.

I also think that the use of a Bosendofer as well as the sound from the mics also make it very interesting

Very fresh & alive Musical pronouns! BRAVO!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Una bella interpretación! Gracias por compartir!
Brilliantly!!! BRAVISSIMO❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful and unique performance. Reminds much of Cortot. Is it just me or is Schiff becoming more erratic as he ages? I find it very beautiful.
Gänsehaut!
First Clarinet makes ah embellishment.. really nice
any blue ray or dvd?
You may watch this on a TV or on your phone, there is no need for a DVD...
Quite bizarre performance of a very famous concerto. It would be better to have a conductor because the tempo varied a lot during the performance.
I admired Sir Andras the most out of all pianists, but increasingly in recent years he has been skipping notes, sometimes in extremely obvious spots - such as the opening here.
I think in this case, he just had a memory slip because he was nervous?
and absolutely devoid of legato.
@@laputa6464 : Gosh, Mr Chow, you must be an extremely brilliant pianist with not an appreciative word for anyone else. Congratulations.
Xiaoyu Huang : So?

Very strange interpretation indeed. Need getting used to. Might not appeal to people who aren't used to eccentricity but I'm so open for it.

Maybe that’s why he decided to pick up the baton 🤷♂️
