- ראש הממשלה בנימין נתניהו ורעייתו שרה נתניהו נפגשו אמש עם שורדי השואה משיאי המשואות של העצרת הממלכתית לפתיחת יום הזיכרון לשואה ולגבורה תשפ"ד של יד ושם, במשרד רה"מ בירושלים. בפגישה השתתפו גם מזכיר הממשלה יוסי פוקס, יו"ר יד ושם דני דיין ובני המשפחה שמלווים את השורדים.
בפגישה המרגשת שמעו ראש הממשלה ורעייתו על סיפוריהם של השורדים בזמן השואה, ועל עלייתם ארצה ועל משפחתם.
איזי (יצחק) קביליו, שורד השואה בן ה-96 מיוגוסלביה, אמר כי צריך בראש ובראשונה לא לשכוח את מה שהיה. והוסיף: "מדינת ישראל היום היא המקלט האחד והיחידי לעם היהודי. אם אי פעם מישהו חשב שגם ארצות הברית של אמריקה יכולה להיות מקלט, עם מה שקורה היום שמה, אנו רואים שזה כבר לא ככה. לכן אנחנו חייבים לחזק את המדינה". ראש הממשלה הודה לו על דבריו והדגיש כי הם מאוד מדויקים.
רעיית רה"מ סיפרה במפגש שהיא בת לניצול שעלה ארצה לפני המלחמה, ובכך אביה שרד והוא הניצול היחיד מכל משפחתו שנספתה, ואמרה "אני מאוד מסכימה עם ההגדה שזו שואת העם היהודי".
אריה איתני, שורד השואה בן 97 מאיטליה סיפר: "בגיל 18 בגטו נותרה אוכלוסייה חלשה, ומכל אלה רק אני חזרתי. שואלים אותי 'למה?' ואני לא יודע. לא הייתי יותר חכם, לא יותר דתי, לא יותר חזק. אינני יודע איך שרדתי".
עוד הוסיף איתני: "אני הייתי שבוי גם בסוריה, וגם בקפריסין וברחתי. הייתי חודשיים בבית סוהר. עברתי מספיק בתי סוהר ונשארה לי רק שאיפה אחת - כבוד ראש הממשלה, החזר את החטופים. זה מאוד מטריד אותי, מטריף אותי, האמינו לי. זהו אדוני, החזר את החטופים, אנא ממך".
ראש הממשלה השיב: "אנחנו עושים מאמצים כבירים. כבר החזרנו מחצית, כששאר האנשים לא האמינו שנחזיר אף אחד, ואני יכול להגיד לך שאנחנו נחושים להחזיר את כולם - גם את החיים וגם את החללים. לא שוכחים אף אחד".
