    Great Announcement! Love the matching shirts! Slugs was such a fun read. I was a bit obsessed with V as a child.

    I also remember V, I watched it as a kid and loved it. This, Max Headroom and Star Trek were my favourite SF series.

    The novelization of V was better than the miniseries, in a lot of ways. I read it multiple times back in the day. I still have that paperback.

    Totally agree on Hanuvar. The first two are great fun. I will have to wait until October, with the rest of the plebs, before I can get my next fix.

    Great Choice with V Michael. I've had that since 1985. The two miniseries were awesome, the weekly series, sadly not so much.

  • @mrmicro22
    @mrmicro22 11 дней назад

    The V novels were surprisingly, even exceptionally, well written. Not only the novelizations of the broadcasts but the whole series of regional accounts of the resistance across the country which were concurrent to the events of the mini series. It made it feel even more real since the continuity was so tight. I enjoyed them greatly. It seems to me I recognized some of the authors from the then dominant Star Trek novels. Clearly polished authors.

    I'm really looking forward to Garbaugust and may participate myself. That's got to be one of the best ideas ever!
    I absolutely loved V back in the day, and collected a number of the books, including the novelization that you have by A.C. Crispin. The novelization covers the original miniseries as well as "The Final Battle" follow-up, so that's why it's so long. It's a pretty good read as far as novelizations go, and expands a little on what we saw on TV. (although not too much). The immediate follow-up to this is a book called "The Pursuit of Diana," which I think is the best of all of the follow-up books that were written in the series.
    I have the DVDs and went back and watched them recently for the first time in years. The special effects have obviously aged a good bit, and some of the story is cheesy, but there's actually quite a bit that holds up well. Faye Grant is an underrated actress. The original miniseries is the better of the two in terms of writing, but The Final Battle is a lot of fun. The weekly series that followed is best forgotten. LOL
    Trivia: The creator of V (Kenneth Johnson) was frozen out of the process of creating what became The Final Battle and eventually wrote his own follow-up, which is now out of print and hard to find. Apparently, he also got the original novelization updated and re-released to tie in with the sequel. That book is also out of print and hard to find.

    Yay for Executioner! I loved the earlier Executioner books by Pendleton. Sucked after the revamp to Stoney Man. V is great. Love the book and miniseries. The weekly show wasn't so good. They had a series of novels with the resistance all around the world.

    V was an amazing series. Staring Freddy Kruger and the Beastmaster! Doesn't get much better than that.
    I'll just stick with my Conan summer read. I'm currently reading City Of The Dead, by John C. Hocking. I'll probably still be reading it in August. I plan on reading some of the newer Conan pastiche books after. It will lead perfectly into the second greatest book tube event of all time, Cimmerian September! ⚔️

      We're roughly the same age.. still remember reading Sinclair Lewis' It Can't Happen Here for English class at the same time as watching V.
      Only recently found out that it was inspired by the SL book.

    Okay, went through some of my books and I'm like damn that's all I read is garbage LOL. Anyway I got a good genre to start off with in August, It works for all 3 of the 4 prompts for Garbaugust, it's Harem Adventures. But only I'm only going to read one of that genre for Garbaugust. Here all the books I plan to read for Garbaugust this year as it will be my first. Week 1 The Howling book 2, Week to the scarlet Cavern, Week 3 Carnosaur, Week 4 Alien.

    By chance, I watched the film adaptation of "The Incubus" only last weekend Michael. It stars John Cassavetes and features him using just one expression for every emotion and in every scene. Perhaps he thought he could reproduce his "Rosemary's Baby" success but I assure you that in this confusing and confused movie in which subplots lead nowhere and the ending doesn't resolve the main plot, he did not. I hope the book is better.
    I do remember "V", I don't think it would hold up well to a re-watching today though. I also recall that DC released a "V" series that lasted about 20 issues.
    Any reason for Roger wearing a shirt today rather than just his usual moldy bandages?

    You'll like Slugs. Spoiler alert: slugs kill people in that book! Death Squad's not the best Executioner, but it's not bad. Deviates too much from his "lone wolf" thing, but... gotta read 'em all! And you can never go wrong with Ray Russell. I loved the V TV show, but mostly because I got to look at Jane Badler. That's a definite bonus...

  • @StevenEverett7
    @StevenEverett7 20 дней назад +1

    I fondly remember The Executioner. The first 36 were written by Don Pendleton. They were really good reads except for one of them that was written by another author. (I think it was #5) I've read them all multiple times. The other 2 or 3 or 400 books not so much. The writing was okay, but Pendleton's style was gone, and the premise of the series changed too much.

    Michael is a master of book review comedy. Kudos!
    Didn't the _V_ show have those weird looking people that just interacted with normal humans? Like they held down desk jobs and were house wives, etc. But they had weird color and spots and stuff.
