Having spent ten years in local government I can say that Parks and Recreation is - despite many of the zaniness - a very, very realistic depiction of life in small town government. And the citizens of Pawnee are mild compared to many of the ones I encountered.

So glad when I left the public works field and was able to land a career in another industry. People can be horrifying.
