The thing about this part of the story is that if you really think about it, it’s actually Ed Regis’ fault that the T-Rex attacked in the first place. It was just sitting there behind the fence staring at them but the second that idiot opened the door and ran, all hell broke loose.
Ever notice how loud and noisy the rex is ! Every time we see it after this scene it gets better and better at hunting , then we see it sneak in at the end and save the day . People don’t see shit like this …
I don't really think so. The adult T-Rex in the novel is less of an instinctual animal and more of a malicious, sentient force of destruction out to wreak as much terror to the humans. It was going to attack them no matter what. Remember, it later spent HOURS chasing down Grant's raft for basically the entire length of Isla Nublar for no good reason, and was extremely persistent to a degree that no normal animal just "out to hunt" or "protecting its territory" would do. It dove into the water in an attempt to eat Grant and the kids and risked abandoning a fresh sauropod (or hadrosaur) kill which could have easily sustained it, spent hours following the raft waiting for a chance to strike, and waited at the bottom of the waterfall in anticipation for the trio's raft to fall down, after which it made the extra effort to wait outside the waterfall and use its tongue to try and grab the humans out one by one. And remember, even after Muldoon shot it with a rocket tranquilizer, instead of calling it quits and deciding to forget about Grant and going back to its kill, it instead went right back to chasing the humans. Also, the second book heavily implies that the Rex could see and identify Grant the entire time when it was right at Grant's face here, which means it was probably just wanting to mess with Grant here to try and get a reaction. The earlier chapters of the book also imply that the adult T-Rex was very bored of its life and routine of being fed goats, something that is also supported when the juvenile T-rex basically plays with Ed Regis and toys with him during his finals moments. The juvenile Rex had basically spent most of its life hunting fish in its paddock's lake, so Ed Regis was probably its first ever experience with fun "moving" prey. The humans were the Rexes' first chance to experience the thrill of hunting prey, _real_ prey that actually ran away, and they wanted to savor that opportunity. I think the adult Rex was going to attack the cars and the humans, even if Ed Regis never ran away and drew attention to them. The only reason the juvenile Rex ran past the cars during this scene was probably because the adult Rex was right behind it, ready to chase it away. The Rex in the book was a MENACE. There is no predator in nature that was as meaninglessly persistent as it. It hunted for sport, sort of like the Indominus in JW, and it probably would have stopped at nothing to see all the humans it saw dead. Ed Regis running away didn't really change the Rex's decision to chase all the humans in the cars down. There was a reason it was staring at the cars, following them as they went along the length of the paddock. It was already thinking of destroying them even before the power went out.
Once again, amazing work! It was incredibly fun to join you again my friend, and I hope everyone enjoyed! Your talent is getting better with each video, can't wait to see how you continue to grow.
What do you guys even like about that sound anyway it doesn’t sound creepy or scary at all, it just sounds weird and like it belongs to some other dinosaur and science wasn’t even used to make that sound and it was not even studied by the lab they claim it was from. I have been working on a script for a potential limited series based on the novel, almost to the letter, also including the nursery scene, and the script actually has the nerve to show the aftermath of it. If you know, you know.
The scene is great when you remember that the trex was canonically just playing, like a giant cat. The thing was not hunting and none of them would have lived if it were
5:05 Oh, I *love* the inclusion of the speculative T. rex "hooting," it's so jarring & unsettling. You've really found a knack for implying motion & movement with an economy of keyframing. About the only thing I'd recommend was to make Grant's beard more defined, sometimes it looks more like stubble to me, but even then it's the smallest thing.
2:01 this whole scene sent a chill through my body, the way everyone is just purely silent and you can only hear the music, the rain, and the rex, the realistic rex noises really add to the fear as well, and when the rex is holding the fence and it slowly pans up to the rexes face it almost looks like it's smiling, like it knows it can break out
3:39 This can be read in two equally effective ways. 1. Regis hasn’t seen the results of a Tyrannosaurus attack, but just inferring from the results of a raptor attack he can already guess it’s a horrific display. 2. He has seen a Tyrannosaurus attack or its outcome and knows exactly what it entails. In any case, Regis isn’t just reacting this way out of cowardice. He’s reacting this way because every time he looks at the Tyrannosaurus, he has to think about the mangled, gored remains of a dinosaur attack. Every second just thinking about the thing forcing horrifying images back up to the front of his mind. And now, he has to confront that harbinger of nightmares head on…
Don't forget that Jack Mills should be credited for the rex noises as well, especially the muto/Godzilla charging up effect! Incredible stuff and loved the fusion of classical and studio and jack's noises as well for the rex!
Funny enough i thought Rexy ate lex but during the raft chapter she's there with Tim and Grant, Lex somehow survived her terrifying encounter with Rexy.
@ alistairdiren5790 It was actually revealed when Dr. Grant woke up and went looking for the kids that Lex survived by crawling into a drainage pipe that kept the roads from flooding. The pipe itself wasn’t much bigger than Lex so Rexy couldn’t get to her.
Wow, wonderful! I've read the novel 3 times, and listened to it on audio once. I think the only big change I liked for the movie was that Hammond was more of a dreamer and not a cliche greedy sob. Even if every character sounds like you this is so well done. I bet Michael Crichton would have loved to see this more direct translation of his work.
I LOVED the fact that you used the updated scientific way the T-Rex sounded when it first appeared. It made it terrifying! Kudos to all who worked on this video. Your work is greatly appreciated!
Amazing how a RUclips animation can still convey how tense this part was. Which part could possibly be next? The Aviary? The Girl and the Compies? Oh, the Cave behind the Waterfall?! But I draw the line at the Compies in the baby crib, I would not mind if that stayed without visuals. Edit: Or maybe the Dinosaur count, that one really hit me hard.
Holy shit, man. I never felt so much terror & dread while watching a "Jurassic Park" related video. The atmosphere was spot on & the way the tension built to a boiling point after the T-Rex showed itself was so effective! Plus, the mixture of the classic Rex sounds & the scientifically accurate sounds just made the scene so much more terrifying. This is easily the scariest JP animation that I've ever watched!
Tim was actually wearing a watch in the book, the glass was cracked, so he took it off after the attack. This helped Muldoon find out the kids (or just Tim at the time) were alive.
This was fantastic. I am always impressed by your videos, but this scene was brought perfectly to life in the most terrifying way Michael intended it to be. I can’t wait for more scenes to be brought to life like this.

The car getting thrown, the expressions on everyone’s faces, Ian getting yeeted, Grant getting kicked. You made the situation look as terrifying as it sounded. While I love the movies portrayal of this scene, the novel one is the more realistic and terrifying version. I really like Lex’s reactions, because well, yeah that is how an 8 year-old would probably react to being abandoned in a car that’s about to be attacked by a giant monster. Everyone has the appropriate reactions.
This is amazing! I always forget the T. rex was a reddish color in the book. Man if only to see this get adapted into live action. I bet the theater would be absolutely shocked.

I can not express the amazement, shock, chills, and geeky-fanboy feelings I got while watching this! I love the movies, and while the scene in the 1993 film is spectacular, it was missing so many elements that made this scene stand out. From the animation, lighting, directing, set pieces, sound design, and voice acting... I'm just blown away. Kudos to TheDinoFax for his excellent narration; I love his videos too! It wouldn't surprise me if you animated Michael Crichton's book and made a movie out of it since you're very talented at this amazing animation. If that happens I'll defintly watch that movie.👍👍👍👍
This would be such a great remake movie, if they do it right!
Also, Tim and Lex kinda look like Jack and Annie from Magic Tree House. Both a mix of the book illustrations and the anime movie style! It’s great!!
@@swiftsea6225 yo I remember those two lol! Funny how the first MTH book was Dinosaurs before Dark.
@@ingen2d LOL! When I saw your animation, I thought the characters you drew were inspired by them! Just look at the anime movie too!
Also, good news is that Mary Pope Osborne is still writing those books today!😉😉😉
