This is the best demonstration of downswing sequence on internet, I especially impressed by Steve mentioning that it's an ongoing processing and not some miracle 5 secs golf fix. 👍
Forever ago, when I studied piano with a great old master from the French School of Pianists, he taught me these drills at a dead slow motion ..which after a few months had me playing scales at a rate of 32 notes a second.. with complete clarity. A feat which I had previously believed would be utterly impossible for me to achieve. A severe auto accident ended that part of my life .. but I see the relevance of those lessons in these drills. I shoot scores in the mid 70s almost all the time now.. my hope is to get to scratch or better .. no matter our age .. we can still have hopes.. Thanks for the insight into MA Steve. Your efforts are appreciated.
This is great info. I see that the right arm and elbow are staying wide maintaining width and creating speed. This is something I am just learning now. I use to bring that right arm and elbow in thinking it would help with lag, but it kills width and speed. This is great stuff Steve.
Great and thorough breakdown of the Mike Austin golf swing!! I often have problems beginning the downswing and the step down really works. Thanks Steve!!
Great sequential breakdown Steve. Very informative and as such, reminds me of MA’s -1-2-3 countdown with MD in the Austinology series of lessons. One-one thousand, two-one thousand, etc. Interesting that you mentioned your (personal) problem with shallowing the club in the downswing. It makes us weekend warriors appreciate we’re not the only one’s with swing glitches 🏌🏻♂️that need tweaking😂 Looking forward to practicing your instructions in order to gain subconscious repetition of each aspect of the Austin swing. 🏌🏻♂️😊
Following Steve has totally changed my game , I’m very confident with my irons, crushing them, but need more practice with my driver, thanks Steve 🏌🏾♂️
Steve, I’ve just joined in and can’t believe it took so long to find you. Already you’re have a positive impact on my game. Do you have a lesson on gripping the club? Thanks.
Great stuff Steve! I’ve just begun practicing your tilt/turn move. Right away I’ve noticed 2 things. 1. It feels very natural and fluid. 2. It’s much easier for me to get to my left side. P.s. great job with your lessons on your website
Steve, the only thing wrong in my opinion. The right arm and both arms lower on the downswing. They don't stay up as you turn or you would be over the top. You may "feel" they don't lower on the downswing but they do. Not a ton but they do. It's the only way to hit it from the inside. Look at your view from down the line. You are keeping you arm and hands up and by the time you get to the ball you are over the ball. Just from your video here you can see the arms have to lower. Your practice right arm only swing is showing exactly that. If you did a 3-D capture of your regular swing you would see that your arms and hands arm moving down relative to the rest of you body on the downswing. You can even see it in your slow motions swings. Love the content and all your videos. Thank you!
Hi Steve, great video. Thanks When I press my left heel as first downswing move,, I feel my left leg is posted. The balls are going nice. But I feel I have not enough turning with my leading hip..The other option move in downswing is I start turning my leading hip and yes I have more turn feeling but not feeling my left leg is posted at impact. Balls go also nice. What is it that is missing so that I can get better results? Thanks.
How long do you keep your head 'looking at the ball position' in the downswing, it looks like you are' peeping' too soon or 'looking up' ; conventional swings require eye contact at impact? Or how to train your head position? Mike Austin stated to keep head 'down' until your trail shoulder moved your head up, but that is hard to do also...
I’m struggling to understand at what point I should feel the “throw release”. Focusing on throwing the club at the top of my backswing (180 degrees) with my left wrist causes my right elbow to move outwards… which I know is competing with the “pizza box” thought of the elbow turning in. Appreciate all of your content, great content! with this I’m just struggling with what seem to be conflicting feels.

September 2024... Thank you. Missed this for 4 years
Thank you!!! Really appreciate the details of the 'transition'.
You do the best job describing what’s happening in the swing. Thanks for sharing your talent and experience in such an understandable way!
I appreciate that!

"How to Practice Efficiently" is the dustiest book in the golf library, but the most valuable.

Great drill. Puts everything together. Thanks!

EXCELLENT! Thank you Steve
Great video. Really helpful. Thank you
Hello l thought the drill you demoed was really good I liked your comment about how much practice you need to do
As Ringo once said, "It don't come easy."
One of the easiest to follow lessons on the internet.
Great stuff Steve!

Yes agree. My slow mo examples are meant to stress a point and may look a bit out of sorts.
Iv saved this video gunna work on this and this only
thanks helps alot
Steve, I have definitely experienced conflicting instruction, for example, not to move laterally at all. I have decided to trust you.
Peter it's not necessary to move laterally in the backswing. You could just tilt like Snead. We're probably talking about 2-4 mph.

Boy you're getting specific so I'd have to see the swing on video.

You can rotate your head to peek while keeping it down and centered.
How do you practice the swing, so that you can repeat it?
Over and over first without a ball, and even moving the body without a club.
Hi can you help me with shanks, thanks
Yes. There is a good video on my channel from a ways back. Try searching for it!

Unfortunately there is no universal description for 'feel'. Use the feedback from the ball flight and the divot, camera if possible.
Steve, I do not see you spinning the pizza box with your hand, are you supposed to move your wrist to spend the box in the top of backswing?
Wrist and forearm yes.
But why do you shift your left heel inward before your downswing?
Good question!
Important details! It just looks so much different when you have two hands gripping.
