    Beautiful barracuda to start with! I’ve worked many of the old ones just like you’re doing with the razor blade. Change often, break in your fresh blade on one side and be careful not to flip it over because it’ll dig in every time. That darker shade you see there is the original red oxide primer. Someone at one time gave it a quick sand-probably prepped the engine bay with a red scotch brite and sprayed a fresh coat of lacquer over the original paint and primer. The broad curves of the notchback make for an easy arrow straight finish, very similar to the full curve of the road runner; I use an air file and cross block the entirety -just watch for where the contour from the fender-door merge with the rear (broader curved) quarter panel. That transition can be a little tricky but she’ll come out beautiful I know how you do brother 😊! If you need any tips feel free to reach out, I don’t mind one bit. I’ll follow along and if I see anything I think might help I’ll try to give a heads up. Enjoy your weekend Joe! 😊

    My buddy Gary's truck had a beautiful 10 foot paint job. Shiny, wet looking paint. Till one day when he decided to wash the "Love Bugs" off his truck with a 3900 psi Pressure Washer with a Rotary Tip. Took the paint OFF, right down to the Etch Primer. Who knows Joe, maybe you can get that lucky too? 🤣

    I use paint stripper occasionally. HF makes a new drum type surface sander i will try soon. There is always the tried and true DA sander. Its not cheap to pay for soda blasting and sand blasting is just to aggressive. I like to use Bulldog adhesion promoter in the engine bay where its difficult to scuff and prep for primer. Good luck Joe ! Im looking forward to the progress on this project. 👍🏼

      Paint stripper used to work before they banned methyl chloride . My opinion is abrading paint and the dust it will release is more hazardous than using a good stripper when wet creates no dust at all It was a bad decision to ban it in my opinion

    Done the razor method myself. Real body guys probably don't like it. In my way of thinking, if it's got a layer of paint that scrapes off easy, it's gonna peel if you leave it and paint over it. Plus, if a razor knocks it off easy, that saves you a lot of sanding, turning the whole layer into dust. There's plenty of dusty sanding anyway.

    I have a lot of respect for you Mopar Joe but a pressure washer on old 1970 seals is pretty much asking for a leak

    • @JustMoparJoe
      @JustMoparJoe  3 месяца назад +2

      Thanks Mike. Here’s my reasoning. Darren said he’s fine keeping the old seals if they don’t leak. He will forever keep his car in a garage that’s climate controlled, and never intentionally drive it in the rain. The pressure washer was the ultimate test for me, and would allow me to see if they were pouring in around a hidden rust spot, in which they would be removed and the bad areas fixed. I’d never know without the pressure, and now the rubbers are clean enough to stick some masking tape to, if need be 🫡

    Stock paint always sucked under the hood. You have a big job on your hands, but I have confidence that you will do a great job. I hated pulling windshields in the salvage business. Junk yards to be correct. Darn dealers, if someone had a leaking windshield they would take off the trimm a silicone the shit out of it. Take a trim tool, try to find the bracket and catch the damn edge of the glass. Cracked windshield. Wasn't good for my blood pressure. On Chevy's, my dumb ass brother in law ALWAYS cut the antenna. Every Fing time I shit you not.

      Oh man! You take the good with the bad in that case. You’d have a fortune in OEM windshields if you could have preserved them from years ago.

    Wow joe thats some crappy paint on that thing. My guess is a mako paint job with no hardner. My yellow 73 charger is like that. A paint job is only as good as the foundation under it. Cut corners comes back on ya like a bad tuna salad sandwich or gas station sushi 😂 nice bones on that old girl for sure. Hows that blue beast coming lol i wont be back to my truck till late july at this point.
