I love this kind of content. Almost as much as I seem to love each Caroline pedal I’ve ever played. Killer amp. That SG bit 3/4 of the way through the video was chewy 🤘
Like "thebudge333" I too have a the combo version of this amp. 24 years old, hand wired at the CustomShop. I bought it from a guy who owns a music store and plays sessions at a studio conveniently next door to his store. He was getting divorced and was selling off things. He kept a vintage Les Paul and a 1970 1959 Super Lead. The combo is all original and looks brand new. I loaded it with the top of the line Gold Lion 12ax7's and Ei NOS EL84's. 2 ten inch Blue Back Fane speakers. This amp is amazing. Yup, dial it in for the guitar plugged into it. I prefer a cleaner tone from the amp, like just breaking up at stage volume with the guitar on 10 as I run three OD/Distortion pedals on my board, each set for a different level of gain. This amp handles pedals extremely well. The amp sounds huge, much bigger than any other small combo I've played through. Easy to dial in a Gilmour tone with my Strat or old Alex Lifeson type tone with my Les Pauls. I own a number of amps including a handwired replica of Hendrix's 68/69 Plexi and a 72 Hiwatt Custom Lead 100 DR103. I've been in the playing racket now since 1977 so I've played my share of gear. Old Hiwatt's are their own thing, but there is no other amp that sounds like them and the Custom 20 is a mini-beast.
Wow. Really great, comprehensive demo. So much better than most reviewers who will just dial in some tones that some famous people used with that brand and then play clichéd covers of their riffs for ten minutes.
Please make videos of the stuff you guys use and your petal designs and sounds.Your products sound truly magnificent. Fell in love with the meteore the first time I plugged it in. Very interesting amp sounds really nice. You. Should be huge$ JHS Status!
I doubt it's the same company that made this amp than the one you have the license name has changed hands many times i would prefer a 2000's Hiwatt vs the company that owns them now a canadian company don't even answer emails or provide schematics for blown amps. the real Hiwatt's where made by Dave Reeves who sadly passed away in the 1980's
Hiwatt style single channel amps are my absolute favorite variety of single channel amp. There isn't much they can't do, and that can be covered with pedals easy enough.
Once turned down a Reeves era Custom 50 at a very reasonable price. The one that got away etc. Just seemed a little OTT for a local covers band playing pubs.
This is awesome. Stoked to hear you love the Custom 20 so much!
Great vid! awesome amp! first time on your channel and I love the content and your personality man.... keep it up!
The jangle in those first chords on the SG were truly miraculous.

I’m vexed by that white SG…. Darn

I have an early 2000’s 2x10 combo version of this amp. I absolutely love the amp.
Same!
After that, I've tried lots of different boutique amps but...
After 20 years, this is the only amp that resist the GAS attack!!

That SG sound is awesome and so very much like many Midwest emo bands from the 90s!
What an AMAZING sounding Amp… well done video and Fk yeah HiWatt… Fk yeah!
I have a custom 20 which I bought last year. I play mostly Fender style guitars. Hearing that SG through it makes me want to buy an SG too
HIWATT/Fane/SG - doesn't get better than that!!
I too, am vexed. I must have this head.

best audio ive seen in a review, how do you record your voice in videos?
The SG sounded very Alex Lifeson like
Go Hiwatt \o/
Great video Philippe! Whats cabs and especially speakers work well for you with the Custom 20?
Hey! This is a Marshall 1965A cab with Celestion G10-35 speakers if I recall correctly
Thanks for the feedback man. Would love to hear some vids of your pedals through the Custom 20.
Super geek!
How do you guys like the asian made hiwatts? The T40/20 or the T20/10?
If you are vexed; do you not call out to Crom for guidance?
Ha! Crom laughs at my four winds
i played one of those a few years ago. didn't buy it. been looking for one ever since.
no reverb , 2x10 😬
Dave reeves didn't make it so it's not a Highwatt just a brand name copy
What speakers?
