This is so nostalgic! Silent Hill 3 is my favorite game in the series, but this is where it all started... the lying to my mom about what I did over at a friends' house. She was worried I was kissing boys or going places without the supervision of my friend's mom. Nope. We were staying up late, eating massive bags of Costco candy, and trying to see how far we could get in Silent Hill before we got too scared. We didn't get too far. 😅

Personally, this scene is one of those greates sad scenes in the video games, right there with the death of Aerith or the death of Sniper Wolf in MGS. No game has unsettled me like the original Silent Hill trilogy. I've had more recent games that could make me jump more, that would get my heart beating more. But Silent Hill just makes me feel something more then that.

25:20 I've actually thought it would be a cool idea to have a Silent Hill game like that. You would be doing usual tasks like you said, and you'd hear stuff about a weird cult here and there. You end up learning more, maybe stumbling into the cult once, but still keeping the game mostly normal. At the end maybe you wake up and it's foggy out, and you hear the siren before the credits roll.
Silent Hill 1 and 2 are actually almost completely unrelated. You can kind of think that the events of Silent Hill 1 might have super charged the supernatural aspects of the city, but it's likely that Silent Hill has always been like this. Silent Hill 2 has always been interpreted by me as being Silent Hill in it's base form. A spiritual journey where you face your inner demons literally made flesh.
Whoever edited that effect in at 38:38 needs a raise. The reverb and filter made it sound 100% like it was coming from my kitchen on the other side of the wall. It sounded so real I had to get up and look what happened. I was wearing headphones, so it had the perfect amount of "muffledness" you'd expect from a sound coming from outside. Goddamn.
Man, I saw the 2nd Silent Hill movie while it was in theaters. It was during that horrible time where the theaters were trying to force 3D on everyone and my cinema only had 3D viewings. The movie is bad enough to begin with, but imagine watching it where the constant snow/ ash particles are placed in the foreground, making your eyes go all screwy trying to focus on the middle plane. I felt like I was gonna vomit.
I recently showed my friend all your Silent Hill playthroughs and they asked me about this one. We've been waiting for this so excitedly. I'm so thrilled to be here for another shocktober, and hoping to get merch this time. That opening sequence was Peak in every possible way. You outdo yourself every time.
