- Another scene from the 1977 classic 'A Bridge Too Far'. British paratroopers fend off a German assault on their position next to the bridge in the Dutch city of Arnhem during Operation Market Garden, September 1944.
Respect to the men who fought so bravely on both sides of the battle.

Market Garden..an Aces & 8's bet..that failed.!? God bless 'em all.!!
Yes, very brave men they were.
I'm quite sure that I read somewhere that in real life the German officer who led the attack on the bridge did something similar earlier on the Russian front where he ended up winning a decoration.
That's correct, you can read about it in Cornelius Ryan's book titled A Bridge Too Far.
Again, depending on what the conditions were, the bridge is a bottleneck, and there were only cars and armored cars there, no tanks
It was in Normandy, was awarded a Knights Cross
Viktor Eberhard Graebner was his name, I presume
SS-Hauptsturmführer, equivalent of captain, also an company officer.
Many, of the german soldiers fighting in Arnhem were actually Dutch SS
Some historians say around 1500
They did not only fought on the East front as commonly believed.
They were traitors to their people that's for sure.
that explains the guard played by Hartmut Becker in the beginning of the movie, who halted the bicycle boy on his way to meet a friend. He was conversing with the boy in Dutch. I thought he was a German who knows Dutch language. the actor was German though. he also played a notorious SS Officer Gustaf Wagner in Escape from Sobibor

The God saves people by preaching (1st Corinthians 1: 21). He has nothing to do with war.
Unfortunately, the lying and corrupt clergy is silent about this. They even bless racists and nazis in the name of God.
The problem is that the Devil rules the world. He is a liar and a murderer. This is why deception and violence are everywhere. This is the reason why people cry over stray cats and hate their brothers. This is the reason why Hitler got the power, but Christ was executed as "blasphemer" and "rioter" by denunciation of clergy. This is the reason why the whole world is Sodom.
