This gen of GPU's is a disaster. I'm really behind. I got a brand new build, 13th gen, ready for a new GPU, temporarily have a evga 970 in it. Nvidia announced their 40 series, I laughed at it it was so bad for so many reasons. I said, I'll jump over to AMD...which is also a mess. Plus, they might be calling it a big jump in GPU's, and it is given the minor jumps each year, but lets face it, without upscaling aka DLSS, RT still is a reach at 4k. So you pay 1000-2000 bucks, and it lasts...1-2 years? No man, no way. Plus the size of these things now are just nuts. Beyond silly looking at this point. So I will wait again. My PC is no longer a gaming PC, hasn't been in years. XSX and PS5 for now, backlog of games to play, I can certainly wait this out.
I completely understand where you're coming from. Been thinking a lot about how these cards are not just competing with each other and previous gen, but also consoles... and unless you're committed to PC Gaming, it's looking like a real tough pill to swallow. Though, it really should last longer than 1-2 years. Maybe a good deal on RTX 3K or RX 6K?

But if you want a GPU upgrade... That's likely how you will be comparing: console vs gpu. Though, cheaper games on PC through keys (ongoing cost) should also be factored in, if you go for them. 70USD Games could easily be a deal breaker 😳 plus if you want to do anything other than game... So many different ways to view this topic. Maybe we should do a video exploring why one over another and who would be best suited for each option? 🤔

Sold my 1yo 3070 for 550$ CAD, bought a 4070 Ti for 1100$ CAD. It's about exactly twice as fast. Plus, DLSS 3 frame gen is a must at 4K 120FPS... Even if I wanted to go AMD (I don't; drivers and thermals still suck hard), it just doesn't have the features I need to run my OLED TV at 4K 120Hz... The problem with all the benchmarks is that they ignore DLSS and RT and focus on pure raster performance. These two features are the only reasons to own a 40-series. And nVidia is the only one that has the goods. So I don't have a problem with their pricing. It's on AMD to get their shit together and start competing. Right now they are just not even in the race.
Well, don't forget that FSR is a thing While not as good as DLSS, it's still decent enough to use. FSR3 is also coming in a few months too according to what I read Their RT needs alot of improvement though. Also the reason why reviewers focus more on pure raster are the pure performance of the cards.
i have a 7900xt and have zero driver issues and it runs at 56c while gaming.the xtx refrence cards are the only ones that had an issue.also the vram is almost double compared to the 4070ti.which will be a factor in 4k sooner than later.when fsr 3.0 comes out nvidia won’t be able to brag about dlss anymore.in pure performance amd wins.Except for the 4090 which a small majority can afford.Also why buy a card that you have to use dlss in order to play 4k.if i’m going for 4k i want to play native.Not some fake upscaling.Dlss is ignored in benchmarks because it’s a lower resolution upscaled.of course you will get more frames

You just need "enough", and in 4K right now 12GB is plenty for gaming. The only people who need more than 16GB are people who use their GPU for editing, encoding, or science. As for FSR 3, we'll see when it comes out, right now it doesn't exist. Also, did you know DLSS frames in quality mode are actually cleaner than native? lol As opposed to FSR 2, that looks like dog shit in Quality mode... Plus, there's the big elephant in the room: no ray tracing! What do you even need FSR for with no RT?

The 6800xt and 6900xt is allegedly dying due to driver issue cracking the die.
It wasn't due to drivers.
