I know of several neighborhoods in Detroit without grocery stores, as well as inadequate or closed public transportation. I once painted large murals in a slum neighborhood gas station, which seemed to defy any explanation. I later learned that the intent was to exploit the underprivileged who lacked options. I was told by a nearby business owner that mentally deficient customers are regularly cheated or shortchanged even (Although, I couldn't verify the accusation). Either way, it broke my heart when I realized the situation. :(
