I have a 3/4 hp Ideal the weight doesn't have a lot of movement like most engines for the gov. and most of the ones I have seen and one I own have had a repaired detent lever, you can buy new gov parts from Hit and MIss Enterprises. check to see if your cam is timed correct if it's one tooth off one way or the other the weight will go past the detent lever before the exhaust rocker will catch it or the exhaust lever will begin to close before the weight gets there. or it could be like you said it wasn't welded correct. just my 2 cents. nice to see some younger people working on engines.
Yeah I saw that Hit and Miss Enterprises may have what I need, there great! For some reason I didn't check the cam timing yet, but I will now, thanks for the advice! Well your 2 cents helped out, thanks Man!! Thanks for watching Bud!! : )
Yeah, I just now tried changing the cam gear timing, and I had no affects. The detent lever on my engine has been butchered pretty good, so I believe it's no good anymore. I will try Hit and Miss Enterprises for a new lever and try that. Thanks again for the help! Jonathan
O man I have been to the mountain camping for 4 days and when I come back I have 73 notifications so I have a long night ahead of me☺️ fireworks look so cool in the mountains though there about a eye level and it takes 5 seconds for the sound to get to you. Anyway looks good well besides the Hit n Miss Fits governor might want to get that changed☺️ I wander if you could find one of those old washing machines for that thing to power that would be cool. Happy 4 mate☺️
That sounds like a good time especially with the fireworks! Yeah I am going to have to figure out the governor for sure, it shouldn't be that bad to fix. That would be cool to power a washer, it's a perfect engine for that! Anyway, happy 4th to you too Bud, and thanks for watching!! : )
Hey Jonathan! Yeah I think she will be a very good starter and runner! Yeah the weight is free to sling out. After looking at You Tube videos of that engine, I discovered that after the weld repair is just completely home made, so it's not riding on the weight in the right spot, as timing on this governor is critical. Thanks for stopping by again Jonathan, always great to hear from you!! : )
What was the original purpose of this, how was it used? Did it cost the original owner an outrageous amount of money compared to the income of that time frame? Great video John. Thanks for sharing....
I have seen many used as power units to power different stuff at shows, but I believe Ideal built lawn mowers and this may be one of the mower engines. They were very big self propelled walk behinds.
Yes, you nailed it Jonathan!! And I will never know the exact date of this engine because the serial number was stamped on the mower and not the engine, for some silly reason.
Actually it's funny you say that, because I looked up You Tube videos of that engine and now at least I know what the governor arm is suppose to look like. Thanks for the idea though, I will try looking up drawings too. Thanks for watching Man!! : )
Well I just made a couple more videos about the T, but we have to get through some backlog first, you didn't miss a thing. It's just how we like doing videos. Be patient please, and thanks for watching!! : )
Sorry I didn't get right back to anyone's comment, my power went out yesterday. : )

It is running pretty decent with a little help!!!
Yeah the old girl needs some help getting up after all those years!! Thanks for stopping by again Bud!! : )
Just got here from the smallenginemechanic channel. Love the hit and miss engine. What kind of fuel is it using? Okay found it in the video 6:48
Gonna be a great runner when you get the governor figured out. Is the weights on the flywheel slinging out?
Hey Jonathan! Yeah I think she will be a very good starter and runner! Yeah the weight is free to sling out. very nice engine I would love to find one
Yeah, all of those old air cooled hit and miss engines are cool. If you keep your eye out you will find one!! Thanks for watching Mike!! : )

cinrambrad- Jonathan W answered your question. Thanks for watching Bud!! : )
I'm curious if you can't find an old patent drawing online in leu of an owner's manual. That might show the governor set-up. just a thought.
Actually it's funny you say that, because I looked up You Tube videos of that engine and now at least I know what the governor arm is suppose to look like. Thanks for the idea though, I will try looking up drawings too. Thanks for watching Man!! : )
May I ask who the manufacturer of the hit and miss is. I recently purchased one very similar and would like to find more
Information on it. Thanks
How's the T coming?
Well I just made a couple more videos about the T, but we have to get through some backlog first, you didn't miss a thing. It's just how we like doing videos. Be patient please, and thanks for watching!! : )
