"Because death is just too full and man too small, and I'm scared of what's behind and what's before." One of the most poignant and reflective verses I've ever heard in music. If you've ever had to contemplate your own mortality or that of a loved one for whatever reason these words hold so much meaning. Incredibly powerful!!
This is my favorite Mumford and Son's song. incredibly beautiful and vulnerable. It amazes me that this song has the ability to reach inside the hearts of so many and touchs a similar spot in everyone. So powerful, real and lovely.
"Love will not break your heart, but dismiss your fears." I miss the feeling of being loved. It's been so long. I don't mean to sound sappy, but it's really the truth: knowing that you're something special to someone else is a feeling that is unparalleled.
Every video of this song you can see Marcus crying this song must really mean a lot to him, you can see its coming from the heart. What a song gives me chills every time i hear it.. Long live mumford and sons.
When I was in an abusive relationship a friend learned this song and played it for me. I found the courage to get out and have now been dating my best friend for 6.5 years. This song still makes me cry happy tears every time.
My friend Kim died unexpectedly (a stroke) and someone sang this at her memorial service. It was probably the hardest moment of the whole afternoon. Heartbreaking.
I can't even handle the emotions involved in listening to this song, god only knows how emotional writing it must of been. Gives me hope to believe in a better tomorrow, no matter how bad today might appear.
refreshing to see bands like this. it's all about live performing and real fucking music. music you can enjoy, music that helps you through tough times.
This song is so organic... it leaves me filled with joy and a feeling that there is something bigger out there... that despite our "fear of what's behind and what's before", everything wil be fine, "you'll see". This song is so uplifting!
I first heard this epic and touching song while watching Stargate Universe and at great effort tracked it down. It does not matter how often I hear it brings a tear to my eye.
@hookedonMuSe aren't they absolutely inbelieveable? such talent...I have never had a group that has affected my life like they have....there are no words to describe it...I'm sure you must have the same feeling, one that we don't even all the way understand....
I will always be devoted to art for this incredible song. This is the final demonstration that a song could be more influent than every person you could meet. Mumford&Sons are my favourite band ever, but i'm sure and I swear that difficultly I'll read lyrics like these God bless art
Ahh I never want this song to end. Whenever it stops it's kind of like a shock, like a realize where I am, and I remember to start breathing again. Keep on rocking Mumford :)
I truly hope, at some point in my life, I will see this great band play live. I have never been so drawn to a band, or music, in my life! I hope they stay true to their sound and not let the stardom take ruin on their music.
This song always gives me chills! I don't know what it is, but this song is so strong and everytime I'm sad I listen to this song and cry even harder. Because I know there will come a time when love doesn't break hearts and there will be no tears. I just wish that time will come soon .. (l)
My ex wife played this for me the day she left me, that was the worst day and best day of my life, I just didn’t know it yet. It’s hard to understand why things happen the way they do but sometimes we just need to have faith and know that there’s a bigger plan for each of us if we allow it to happen.
There's always a next chapter in our lives...just have to learn to stop reading the previous chapter to be able to move forward and let the new chapter develop
they always put so much emotion into singing it, it makes them very enjoyable to listen to. it also comforted me when my girlfriend broke up with me, i really could cry my heart out and feel like new after it :)
but the chorus brings hope you guys. I'm sure we all experience those HORRIBLE days when you feel like you would rather die than move on, but a little bit of hope makes us want to keep going. "there will come a time" wether it's life after death or just finding true happiness.
So check this out... I saw this scene and it hit me hard really hard like all the sad montage scenes in SGU. A little while later I was watching Jimmy Kimmel Live and they were the featured band... While they were playing I thought to myself "Wow these guys are really good and sound like a band they would put in SGU." so I have been listening to them since... And just now I said to myself "You know what! They were on there weren't they!!!" Well I was right. I Love how life works. : )
God this really freakin' hurts, man. They're awesome. And now, in the comment section i found out that johnny flynn toured with them? two of the best artists in their genre. I hate not living in england.
when asked by my older brother what my favorite m&s song was my favorite, i got really angry, and told him not to make me choose cuz id die, but told him that a few that came to mind were white blank page, little lion man, the cave, thistle and weeds, and after the storm, and told him to quit bugging me, that i was listening to winter winds, which is also a great song that pops into my mind :)
@Mumtheeden Its true man...i have these binge sessions every night when i'm working...They always invovle hours of mumford and sons and ray lamontagne these guys though make everything else melt away with their passion
I love how quiet the crowd is. That is true respect. Very rare at shows these days.

their best song still. always so beautiful no matter how many times you hear it.

There WILL come a time for all of us, when it won't be scary anymore, won't be painful. It will be perfect. That's what keeps us all going.

Yo this is amazing

This song may not be the best for the depression I'm feeling but it feels perfect.
