"He's got the precious knack of making the unexpected sound inevitable".
    Well, that sums it up.

Melvyn is a great interviewer and it may be the best interview ever of Paul McCartney.

Absolutely. I learned a lot...although he interrupted Paul sometimes, he'd have Pual speak his heart, quite unusual

I was thinking the same thing. But like the comment below the interviewer didn't let him answer some of the questions.

Nice!!!! I love it. It shows how natural is for him to do what he does, and why he needs to do it.

Thanks SO much for sharing this. Paul McCartney and Clive James in the one programme? I just died and went to heaven. (Also, hearing Clive say, "His later career is almost as interesting as his earlier career" makes me feel a lot better about being mocked over the years for suggesting exactly the same thing.)

I would say that Paul's post-Beatles career was arguably MORE interesting.

Just a great interview.Paul is an amazing man but usually an awkward interviewee or too easy, here he really hit it on the head.
The element of daring he talks about and how he and john wrote he has said a lot , but people still search for the secret. They messed around and built on little ideas and had imagination but there is no secret.I think his genius is in his character , the ability to risk , to fail.He failed a lot if people were to say the truth but he also succeeded a lot , the genesis of all his songs is fascinating esp the mid sixties period. Thanks for uploading

A video every songwriter should watch! It's amazing how the little thing Paul does, and the rules he breaks are exactly what I've been doing for years.

McCartney always makes you feel good. Its his biggest talent. I only have to see his face and ill cheer up, i literally just had an email from my girlfriend telling me of some fuss over nothing issue with her sister and niece, and i simply replied "DEEP SIGH, (Hangs Head)" RIGHT! it's time for some McCartney it's the only thing for it.............then i came to this interview, he always says something that makes you think - ah great, yeah, thats right, ill go with that.

Paul's right, when it comes to music and songwriting, the best things come simply out of messing around and having fun with an instrument

Great show but a bit disconcerting hearing the interviewer at the piano interrupt Paul at least 3-4 times. Still, a good show, thank you. Paul is so unbelievably real. He hasn't changed since this was filmed in 1978, either. I love you Paul and I miss Linda.
