Our Home built in 1950 had oil Hot water radiators when we moved in. We changed to propane and a new furnace. Two years ago we added a split two unit system and here in the middle of Maryland it was a good choice. Thank you for your very informative Post.
Great job ! Had question we have 500 gallon propane tank and the valve stem is leaking on shut off valve only when turning in , When dialed all the way open does not leak . Is there a video that shows how to replace packing valve or will tank have to be empty ? Tried to tighten nut no luck
not likely, with the 2 stage regulator system, one on the tank, one on the house, the line is under much higher pressure than conventional natural gas systems, hence the relatively smaller line size.
@@thedavesofourlives1 I was referring to a pipe within a pipe for protection. As an example, I ran my service entrance direct burial cable in a schedule 40 pcv conduit. Redundancy, peace of mind, little expense.
In reading the comments and replies: this is in no way obvious or not so useful info. How about buried tanks, Distance of tank from dwelling, Frost loops similar to electric Service Entrance ?
@@alrent2992 Oh yes it is, at least in many localities. Propane companies here use copper outdoors, underground and in basements. They use both the stand bare and the type with the yellow plastic coating. If they need a number of drops they use a hard line running in the basement as a manifold they install black iron. They they run the copper from the tank to the black iron, and then from the black iron to the appliances. I have copper lines at my home installed by the propane company and they are 40 years old. Went under one crosswise with another line for water 35 year after it was installed and the only evidence of degradation was the copper had darkened.
Thanks. I get that this is pretty basic & boring but it is something that lots of people need to know at some point. No, frost does not affect propane lines with the exception of shifting ground potentially damaging the pipe but that would require a pretty significant frost heave. Leaving a bit of a "loop" can help prevent this where shifting is likely. Thanks for the feedback!
Exactly. Wait what? It's true that there is quite a bit of flexibility as to the burial depth. Video could have been one sentence: "Bury it at 12" most places, 18" under driveways, & deeper where required by code." Haha. Thanks for being a subscriber!

But who would I call to buy propane and propane accessories? :-)
You can get most of it on Amazon actually. Click on the link in the description.
Hahaha better call Hank Hill.
@@jumar360 There we go. ;-)
@@BenjaminSahlstrom That one went right over your head Benjamin. =)
Haha. Oops. Guess it did! I'm just not as smart as you guys!
Can I use regular solder used in water copper plumbing for gas applications for propane
when installing at each end of gas line are you suppose to use a regular or forged flare nut or does it matter?
What kind of propane line (csst, black pipe or?) and do you need to encase the line in conduit? Thanks for the video.
How did you make the trench? Spade shovel or a ditch witch?
Propane company bringing my tank said to dig them a 6 inch trench it is to code in my town but is it safe or should I do 12 inch deep
My city code is fir piping 18-24 inchs
What diameter and type of copper pipe for LP for a 250 psi tank
Are there any advantages to running lp line in a larger diameter, heavy wall pipe?

in back yard how deep is gas line 1 1/4" , how deep is electric line 1" Conduit grey ?
Don't you need a copper wire trace or locate wire so that metal detectors or locate services can detect them. Call before you dig. Lol
Lol. The line is copper itself.

How do you keep the copper from corroding?
Copper tarnishes. It doesn't corrode. Not used for propane lines.

Liked but didn't really like. lol. Nothing I can relate to. Does frost affect propane lines?

Can you put gas next to electric lines
Yes
I think It also depends on how deep my love is.
