This was supposed to be a 10 episode series, but Netflix ordered it to be an 8 episode...and the first season east blue arc covers 100 chapters in the manga and 60 episodes in the anime...
Regarding Shanks power, the best answer is to continue... But there's a lot to see... Season 2 was confirmed by Oda sensei, so he has to validate the scripts that were already written.

Shanks' ability will be explained more later. In the manga/anime, it was clearer that he doesn't have a Devil Fruit because Luffy fell in the water and Shanks dove in to save him.
Every person I have seen so far as been on point for casting. Although you did not say, don't conflate character writing or lack there of, with "bad" casting.
To clarify about devil fruits: there are many out in the world, but they are very rare. Each one is unique, one fruit = one power, meaning since Luffy has the rubber powers, no one else will until he is killed/dies and the fruit is reborn. Each person who eats a devil fruit loses the ability to swim and get physically weak when submerged in water. Also, some people in the world know about the fruits, but do not want to eat one. They have to then compensate with a different kind of power. . . . . Also, One piece has been out for over two decades, and no one has any idea what the one piece is, besides Oda.

One Piece is very much a story which is about the journey as much as the destination - so yes, they are still looking for the One Piece in episode 1000+... but by that point, the story is about so much more than just finding the One Piece, and so it doesn't feel stagnant or repetitive at all. It's so cool to see you guys watch this show with fresh eyes! I'm excited to see more of these!
Not gonna lie, my expectations were LOW, because de anime is so cartoonish, I couldn't imagine it in live action ever. But they adapted it so well.... I'm already excited for season 2!!!

Shanks said they were going to the Grand Line. Remember, Koby said in episode 1 that pirates who go there don't come back. That is why we only see him in flash backs currently. Also, I will say that if someone has a Devil's Fruit, the show/anime/manga will tell you. I don’t think Oda ever really leaves it open-ended on if someone does or not. Some people are just better than average in strength or speed. And a lot of Devil Fruit users call out their "finishing moves" like Luffy and Buggy did. Edit: I looked it up because you had me curious. The LOTR trilogy extended versions amounts to about 34 One Piece anime episodes (if you skip the episode intros).
a couple of corrections. Your first paragraph makes no sense. (episode 8) as for Oda makes it very obvious with devil fruit powers, nope. For 25 years we didnt know whether Roger had a fruit. And to this day it has never been confirmed if shanks has a fruit or not. Just 2 examples, but if I thought about it, I'm sure there are more. calling out finishing moves is not a good standard to go by either, definitely not in the manga and anime. And going by episode 8, it won't be a good standard for this show moving forward either.

I think it was more to do with protecting the child actor. Kind of how they are wearing sneakers instead of Japanese wooden sandals. He can only be in the water for so long. 😊 it still worked for me knowing Shanks’ power. He could move that row boat as fast as a jet ski to get to Luffy. 😂😊❤
A minor point that may or may not come up in the live action: the sea takes away the *strength* of a Devil Fruit eater, but it doesn't take away their *powers* . So even if Buggy was underwater and Zoro cut him, he would split without harm and be able to put himself back together again if he got out of the water and dried off. But he would *have* to get out of the water to do so, because full submersion leads to full paralysis for a DF eater, literally not having the strength to move their limbs or hold their breath.
A frequently missed detail is that the grand line is not the equator. The north pole is in the center of north blue, so the equator runs diagonal from bottom left to top right on the map that Nami drew. People in the One Piece world orient their maps in relation to the red line because it's the planets largest geographical feature.
The Grand Line can still be on the equator. If the Magnetic North pole is somewhere in the North Blue, the geographic poles could be on the Red Line without any contradiction.
@@boghag Nah, a relatively recent chapter has three people split up from an island by picking cardinal directions and its the guy who goes south-east who gets to go furthest along the line. Since cardinal directions are usually decided from the geographic poles, that's telling.
A lot of reactors are hung up on the devil's fruit. Folks need to remember, devil's fruits are VERY rare and only a handfull have ate it. The rarity makes it valuable to folks on land tho. Pirates actually tend to stay away from it, cause the weakness is saltwater and you loose the ability to survive in the ocean. Also, everyone with abilities, did not eat the fruit, plus they usually will tell you, remember Luffy said eaters or 'special pirates' usually yell out their specialty moves, 'chop chop canon', 'gum gum pistol' etc. Plus a big point, when a fruit eater dies, the fruit they ate will reappear somewhere else, for someone else to find.

This Buggy is better than the anime one, IMO. Also, I like the "lion" nod by Buggy during his entrance. In the anime/manga, Mohji (the white sheep guy on Buggy's circus entrance), has a giant pet green lion with purple mane named Richie. I guess the CGI team didn't have the time to make a special effect for a giant green lion.

FYI: the "Sea" in "the sea can take away your strength" means literally water in general. Any water that isn't dripping (like rain or a shower) can weaken a DF user, giving you got enough of it. This is according to Oda (the author) himself
Buggy is so good! I love that they played him like the Joker. And that he had a literally captive audience. Honestly, the most engaging part of the entire season to me is that we are following Koby because it really is the newest material. Garp is also a standout to me. I love the way they did Luffy's backstory with Shanks and the Lord of the Coast. Shanks did have the line “You’re putting your life on the line by pointing that at me" and I'm sad they didn't keep it. I always thought that was the most badass line. And pretty integral to the way Shanks lives his life. Also, Shanks does not have a devil fruit. In the manga, there is no boat. Shanks is swimming and holding Luffy. I love that each episode's title screen is a different Jolly Roger!
Honestly I love Garp ❤ the actor did such a good job with him. He is a super complex character and they (everyone involved in casting, scripting, actinc, etc) did a great job capturing it throughout season 1. Without too many spoilers, Helmeppo (captian Morgan's son) will definitely grow a lot! One thing I love about One Piece is how complex each character is! None of them are flat and simple. The whole world operates in grays vs black and whites

There's lots of people especially in The Grand Line having devil fruits with different abilities but it's kinda rare here in East Blue since they called 'the weakest' out of the other seas so some people still surprised to found out about devil fruits user. Fyi Shanks ability to frightened that Sea Beast wasn't from devil fruits. He isn't devil fruits user, that's why he could swimming to save Luffy. His power is something else that would be explained in the story much later. I'm not going to spoil tho 🤭
i love that i can rewatch this show with you, immediately after i finished i was sad i couldnt watch it for the first time again, now i can see you having fun with it. and i repeat myself from last week but it only gets better from episode to episode, the last 4 are pure emotions.
So to answer something the snails are called 'Den Den Mushi' they are snails that have the unique ability to link with each other and communicate over extremely long distances. They are essentially the phones of the One Piece world, they also typically, in the anime, to take on the traits of whoever is talking through them. There are several different types of Den Den Mushi and some have very unique and specific abilities to them. Also to explain devil fruits, finding a devil fruit is *extremely* rare, especially in the ocean's before the grand line they are sold for one million berry. It really is a one in a million find. I could explain what SHanks did but I cannot without spoiling it, all I can say is that devil fruits are not easy to get.
Netflix had announced that there will be ONE PIECE LIVE ACTION SEASON 2. So this show is a massive success and everybody around the world enjoys watching it. The show directors even said they plan to have 6-12 Seasons !!
An interesting thing about One Piece Live Action is that the sections with the Marines; Coby, Garp, and Bowl-Haircut aren't a focus in the manga. There was an entire series of fights, events, and characters with Buggy and his crew which were cut and replaced with the Marines.

While they are on a quest for the one piece. They're not single mindedly fixated on it to the point where they are ignoring the world around them. For Luffy, the adventure itself is extremely important. So yeah, they pretty much rarely if ever stop someplace just to resupply and leave. Whenever they stop somewhere, Luffy immediately puts himself in the middle of what ever is going on and that is basically how they make an entire show. Also that why there aren't that many ship to ship battles in One Piece, usually all the adventures happen on a new island once the strawhats arrive.
The Grand Line can be compared to the equator, but the difference is that the equater is an invisable line, while the Grand line is an Isolated ocean current that runs around the world but is also littered with islands, and on either side is a calm and warm water with no air flow, so it is very hard to get into the Grandline, so its an actual thing as apposed to the equator
There are a number of other ways to get power in the Once Piece world, and Shanks has one called "Haki" - he basically intimidated the Sea King and made it go away.

so the scene where luffy crawl for is hat and buggy for the map is genius, a big part in the manga was the fact that buggy only care for riches, but luffy instead care for friends and his promises, he is indeed a diferent kind of pirate
💙🧡💜 Buggy has been my favourite character in the Manga/Anime. The actor Jeff Ward absolutely SLAYED. The first season of the live action is of the first arc/season, known as the East Blue Saga. Also, I am into over 1070 episodes & the crew is STILL looking for the One Piece. That treasure is not the only mystery, which keeps up the intrigue.

There are other powers than just Devil fruit in the One Piece universe. You can train your physical and non physical abilities to be superhuman, and Mason guessed right shanks intimidated the sea beast. Love the reaction can't wait for the next 🔥🔥🔥

The writing and the design is so well done we gloss over some of the odder details (or missing) and accept them as "it's just how this world works." All around fun!

I have so much fun rewatching this show with your eyes guys! As in general, most of us (fans) really love this show (me included) and well.. the story is not the exact same of the animanga, they had a lot of creative licenses to reduce everything and being able to tell us the important stuff of central story in just 8 eps ( they adapted like 54 eps of the anime), but aside of cutting off some things and change a lot of the ways of how the things happen, they really accomplished to keep the real essence of One Piece and maintain every important thing related to the main characters. So, now that this show has been renewed for season 2, I think we are all really exited to see how this adaptation goes on because we love almost everything they show us, and what is coming next.. that’s when the real journey begins! Like the crazy Islands & real crazy stuff in the dangerous grand line, and well, that’s when we really begin to see that this story it’s not only about finding a treasure called one piece. There’s a WHOLE LOT of deep stuff going on in this story, geopolitics stuff combined with ancient history, and a lot of characters with their own visions, stories and developments intertwined someway with what is happening in this world 😅 So yeah, believe it or not OP has 1090+ chapters in the manga but we still don’t know nothing jahsjsh , and yes they haven’t found the one piece yet. We still don’t even know what it is 👍🏻😅😆 Is a real journey but everything goes in crescendo in this story, is definitely the best fictional story that I’ve ever seen, easily better than every mainstream popular books saga we know. I’m really happy to see this adaptation can reach out for more people to know this story and I really hope there would be several renewal seasons to continue the journey watching this crew of actors being the faces of the characters I fell in love with since I discovered OP❤
My favorite aspect about luffy is that he’s a perfect antihero. He embodies the free natured spirit of adventure while also helping people and his crew. Beautifully written series you guys are gonna love it.
a thing that bugs me about OP since like forever is that for a pirate manga/anime there is really not much „on ship“ action (maybe except for Baratie and Thriller Bark but that obviously doesn’t count the way I mean it, like naval battles). Most of the action takes place on islands. Still love it though 😁
not everyone ate a devil fruit. like shanks, he didn't ate a devil fruit but he has ability. i don't wanna spoil it, but everyone has the ability without eating devil fruit they just have to unlock it, something like that. eating devil fruit gives you super ability or like super powers that makes you different to everyone. in the anime once you ate devil fruit, the only weakness is you can't swim. it didn't say that one splash of sea water can make you weak. but i don't know in manga.
The casting for Buggy was perfect. As a long time Buggy fan in the anime, he was who I was looking forward to the most...and as soon as I recognized the actor I knew they had made the perfect choice. He's a lot more intimidating and menacing than in the anime, but we love all versions of Buggy in this house!
There is electricity in the world. Right now, the places seem very old style but even in the anime you will see places that clearly have electricity. While watching One Piece, I would skip thinking of is this real or not. Because the world in One Piece is unique.
For what this Live Action covers, it covers most of the Romance Dawn saga, which is essentially the prologue. The Live Action stopped before the final town that's in Romance Dawn, which is understandable. I could easily see a good recap of things there occurring, along with the sheer chaos that occurs there. I'm guessing Season 2 will end after the Alabasta Saga. Then, after that, I'm guessing Season 3 would be Skypiea saga, with lead-up into the ridiculously amazing Water 7/Enies Lobby saga for Season 4. Then, oh god, not sure if Season 5 will either have to be crazy long or split into two, because a LOT happens after that. Then, from there, insert time skip, and I'm guessing.... The next island in itself may be its own season, with lead up to the next saga being against Donquixote Doflamingo. I could see Zou and Whole Cake Island combined into its own season after that. Then, there's the chaos that is the island of Wano as its own season most likely. ...and Wano is where the anime currently is.
What's crazy is people have been very critical of Buggy from his short part in the teaser. And now he's probably the most popular character outside of the SH crew.
There is just so much cut and condensed, its impressive. The dog showed briefly was even a character with his own arc with Luffy. Morgan's corruptness was also shown in more depth in the manga and anime.
Don’t forget when you compare it to other shows that most of what you’ll see in this season was drawn and written in the 90’s. The snails are originally wild animals that communicate on their own frequency, almost telepathic. If you catch one and attach a signal amplifier and a way to direct to a specific signal you can use it as a phone :) Just wanted you guys to have seen at least the a different type of one before I said :) Glad you’re enjoying it so far as well
To answer 38:15 yeah its been 1000+ episodes and nearly 1100 chapters still trying to find One Piece. This season 1 covers around 45 episodes (relistically 12-15 episodes) condensed in 8 hour long episodes.
Devil fruit's are a Grand line thing. Like, out of the grand line they are REALLY rare. But they are a very common thing inside the grand line, lot's of people have them
The author has said, for the water weakness, they need to be submerged a decent amount. It requires like 5 inches up their legs to render a Devil Fruit user useless.
Just a little explanation for you guys... Devil Fruits grant its user a special ability, and in turn, the user loses their ability to swim/are weakened by seawater. Which is tough given that the universe of One Piece is like 90% water lol. And! Only one devil fruit of each type exists at a time (meaning Luffy is the only person in the world who has the Gum Gum Fruit). Which is to say there are a LOT of cool powers out there. I'm a big fan of the series and I'm glad you guys seem to be enjoying the live action so far! Looking forward to your reactions to the rest of the season! You're in for a treat 💙
This episode covers Orange town arc from main manga. They cut the original theme from it. But the theme of Orange town arc was treasure. Which shows what treasure means. So there was a dog who was protecting his owner (who passed away) shop. So his treasure was that shop. The mayor of town's treasure was their town, Luffy's treasure was his hat and Buggy's treasure was Gold. The point I am trying to make is story tells you treasure doesn't mean gold, but its something important for different people. Now think about it, in One Piece world the greatest treasure is One piece so what could it be??? I think we need to think broader not smaller like gold. E.g. What would be most treasure for a town with famine? what would be a treasure for a town who is enslaved and tortured? and what would be a treasue for the whole world ? That's why our heroes after 1000 chapters still looking for One piece because its not as simple as finding gold
This is why Im sad they made Buggy claim he wants to go after one piece (which only happened in the recent chapters) other than him saying the real treasure lies in golds etc. Buggy is such a pirate so it's believable he would see treasures that way.
That moment when answer whispered "Is he Aquaman?" 😂😂😂 I'm not sure, but I think he's just really intimidating when he wants. And Nami? Ooooh Boi. All I can say is you're in for a treat. But this is such an awesome show. I haven't seen many episodes of the Anime, but I think I enjoy the live action a little more. Maybe because it has a much faster yet steady pace, unlike the animation. But yeah, I really enjoyed it.

The series is pretty quickly paced compared to the manga. It cuts a decent amount of stuff, but it covers the most essential plot points from Chapters 1 to 95 of the manga.
36:36 The live action show didn’t really get this across, they just had Garp mention corruption, but Morgan was arrested because he was *very* corrupt. He was ruling over the town with an iron fist(or axe, as it were) and the people feared him because of it. That’s why he was arrested. He was abusing his power.
Yes, there are many Devil Fruits in the One Piece world, but in the beginning, they are introduced gradually. spoiler: Sadly 1 short arc didn't made into final cut (because of budget and time constraints). This arc was supposed to introduce an amazing Devil Fruit, anyway it will be featured in Season 2 for sure.
Devil fruits are not the only way to get superpowers in this world. Without spoiling anything I will mention that you can train so hard in One Piece world that your ability becomes almost magical.
It would be nice to see them react to some clips from the anime/manga after they complete this season. It could be like how they read the HP books after finishing Deathly Hallows. I'd love to see their reactions to some of the changes that were made.
The search for the One Piece is that eternal dream/hope that the a dreamer/adventurer holds ahead of them as a compass (and hope) as they journey through the difficulties and wonders of life. I don’t think they’re gonna find it until the series ends.
Regarding Captain Morgan, in the anime he was depicted as far more brutal and narcissistic than he was in the live action. He had demanded that the little girl, whom Helmeppo merely bullied, be killed for her disrespect upon hearing about the bar situation, and it was clear that the entire town feared him. As such, Coby was allowed to join the marines in spite of helping Luffy because the Marines and the entire town were happy to be free of his tyranny.
To clarify, Shanks doesn't have Devil Fruit powers, otherwise he couldn't pull Luffy out of the sea. What he did with the Sea King was... something else.
If you wanna know about how they condensed it this first season of the shows goes over like less then a tenth of the episodes or manga chapters or volumes and they cut parts but they go over most of the important parts of the east blue saga. Also without spoiling too much we don’t know what the one piece is yet but the manga and anime are inching ever so closer to it. Love the reactions and theories and questions you guys throw back in forth with each other btw!
Even though it's a lot more simplified than the anime, which means some unfortunate sacrifices, it's still an okay recreation. For reference, the end of ep2 in the adaptation is ep8 in the anime. So despite all the cut content, it does pretty decent, and overall as a fan, I'm happy with how it's going. Looking forward to next Friday's episode!
I agree, especially with "unfortunate sacrifices" as I actually had tears in my eyes when Chou Chou popped up but LA only viewers won't even know how vip he is, lol.

To clarify about devil fruits: there are many out in the world, but they are very rare. Each one is unique, one fruit = one power, meaning since Luffy has the rubber powers, no one else will until he is killed/dies and the fruit is reborn. Each person who eats a devil fruit loses the ability to swim and get physically weak when submerged in water. Also, some people in the world know about the fruits, but do not want to eat one. They have to then compensate with a different kind of power.

One Piece is very much a story which is about the journey as much as the destination - so yes, they are still looking for the One Piece in episode 1000+... but by that point, the story is about so much more than just finding the One Piece, and so it doesn't feel stagnant or repetitive at all. It's so cool to see you guys watch this show with fresh eyes! I'm excited to see more of these!
Not gonna lie, my expectations were LOW, because de anime is so cartoonish, I couldn't imagine it in live action ever. But they adapted it so well.... I'm already excited for season 2!!!

Shanks said they were going to the Grand Line. Remember, Koby said in episode 1 that pirates who go there don't come back. That is why we only see him in flash backs currently.
Also, I will say that if someone has a Devil's Fruit, the show/anime/manga will tell you. I don’t think Oda ever really leaves it open-ended on if someone does or not. Some people are just better than average in strength or speed. And a lot of Devil Fruit users call out their "finishing moves" like Luffy and Buggy did.
Edit: I looked it up because you had me curious. The LOTR trilogy extended versions amounts to about 34 One Piece anime episodes (if you skip the episode intros).

as for Oda makes it very obvious with devil fruit powers, nope. For 25 years we didnt know whether Roger had a fruit. And to this day it has never been confirmed if shanks has a fruit or not. Just 2 examples, but if I thought about it, I'm sure there are more.
calling out finishing moves is not a good standard to go by either, definitely not in the manga and anime. And going by episode 8, it won't be a good standard for this show moving forward either.

Without spoilers, when Shanks saved Luffy in the manga he was swimming in the ocean, confirming that he does not have a Devil Fruit ability.

A minor point that may or may not come up in the live action: the sea takes away the *strength* of a Devil Fruit eater, but it doesn't take away their *powers* . So even if Buggy was underwater and Zoro cut him, he would split without harm and be able to put himself back together again if he got out of the water and dried off. But he would *have* to get out of the water to do so, because full submersion leads to full paralysis for a DF eater, literally not having the strength to move their limbs or hold their breath.
A frequently missed detail is that the grand line is not the equator. The north pole is in the center of north blue, so the equator runs diagonal from bottom left to top right on the map that Nami drew. People in the One Piece world orient their maps in relation to the red line because it's the planets largest geographical feature.
The Grand Line can still be on the equator. If the Magnetic North pole is somewhere in the North Blue, the geographic poles could be on the Red Line without any contradiction.
@@boghag Nah, a relatively recent chapter has three people split up from an island by picking cardinal directions and its the guy who goes south-east who gets to go furthest along the line. Since cardinal directions are usually decided from the geographic poles, that's telling.
Not everybody has devil fruit powers, some are just powerful through training (see Zoro).
A lot of reactors are hung up on the devil's fruit. Folks need to remember, devil's fruits are VERY rare and only a handfull have ate it. The rarity makes it valuable to folks on land tho. Pirates actually tend to stay away from it, cause the weakness is saltwater and you loose the ability to survive in the ocean. Also, everyone with abilities, did not eat the fruit, plus they usually will tell you, remember Luffy said eaters or 'special pirates' usually yell out their specialty moves, 'chop chop canon', 'gum gum pistol' etc. Plus a big point, when a fruit eater dies, the fruit they ate will reappear somewhere else, for someone else to find.

Also, I like the "lion" nod by Buggy during his entrance. In the anime/manga, Mohji (the white sheep guy on Buggy's circus entrance), has a giant pet green lion with purple mane named Richie.

For S1 OPLA, it catches around 60 episodes from the anime, which is also the S1 for the East Blue Saga. So the anime has more detailed story telling, that's why they needed to cut and change some things in the OPLA.

Buggy's actor was phenomenal every scene with him was great
FYI: the "Sea" in "the sea can take away your strength" means literally water in general. Any water that isn't dripping (like rain or a shower) can weaken a DF user, giving you got enough of it. This is according to Oda (the author) himself
Buggy is so good! I love that they played him like the Joker. And that he had a literally captive audience. Honestly, the most engaging part of the entire season to me is that we are following Koby because it really is the newest material. Garp is also a standout to me. I love the way they did Luffy's backstory with Shanks and the Lord of the Coast. Shanks did have the line “You’re putting your life on the line by pointing that at me" and I'm sad they didn't keep it. I always thought that was the most badass line. And pretty integral to the way Shanks lives his life. Also, Shanks does not have a devil fruit. In the manga, there is no boat. Shanks is swimming and holding Luffy. I love that each episode's title screen is a different Jolly Roger!
Honestly I love Garp ❤ the actor did such a good job with him. He is a super complex character and they (everyone involved in casting, scripting, actinc, etc) did a great job capturing it throughout season 1.
Without too many spoilers, Helmeppo (captian Morgan's son) will definitely grow a lot! One thing I love about One Piece is how complex each character is! None of them are flat and simple. The whole world operates in grays vs black and whites

One Piece is loved, because of the emotional journey and the character growth the plot and adventure is a bonus.
There's lots of people especially in The Grand Line having devil fruits with different abilities but it's kinda rare here in East Blue since they called 'the weakest' out of the other seas so some people still surprised to found out about devil fruits user. Fyi Shanks ability to frightened that Sea Beast wasn't from devil fruits. He isn't devil fruits user, that's why he could swimming to save Luffy. His power is something else that would be explained in the story much later. I'm not going to spoil tho 🤭

So to answer something the snails are called 'Den Den Mushi' they are snails that have the unique ability to link with each other and communicate over extremely long distances. They are essentially the phones of the One Piece world, they also typically, in the anime, to take on the traits of whoever is talking through them. There are several different types of Den Den Mushi and some have very unique and specific abilities to them.
Also to explain devil fruits, finding a devil fruit is *extremely* rare, especially in the ocean's before the grand line they are sold for one million berry. It really is a one in a million find. I could explain what SHanks did but I cannot without spoiling it, all I can say is that devil fruits are not easy to get.
Netflix had announced that there will be ONE PIECE LIVE ACTION SEASON 2. So this show is a massive success and everybody around the world enjoys watching it. The show directors even said they plan to have 6-12 Seasons !!

An interesting thing about One Piece Live Action is that the sections with the Marines; Coby, Garp, and Bowl-Haircut aren't a focus in the manga. There was an entire series of fights, events, and characters with Buggy and his crew which were cut and replaced with the Marines.

While they are on a quest for the one piece. They're not single mindedly fixated on it to the point where they are ignoring the world around them. For Luffy, the adventure itself is extremely important. So yeah, they pretty much rarely if ever stop someplace just to resupply and leave. Whenever they stop somewhere, Luffy immediately puts himself in the middle of what ever is going on and that is basically how they make an entire show. Also that why there aren't that many ship to ship battles in One Piece, usually all the adventures happen on a new island once the strawhats arrive.
The Grand Line can be compared to the equator, but the difference is that the equater is an invisable line, while the Grand line is an Isolated ocean current that runs around the world but is also littered with islands, and on either side is a calm and warm water with no air flow, so it is very hard to get into the Grandline, so its an actual thing as apposed to the equator
There are a number of other ways to get power in the Once Piece world, and Shanks has one called "Haki" - he basically intimidated the Sea King and made it go away.

so the scene where luffy crawl for is hat and buggy for the map is genius, a big part in the manga was the fact that buggy only care for riches, but luffy instead care for friends and his promises, he is indeed a diferent kind of pirate

Also, I am into over 1070 episodes & the crew is STILL looking for the One Piece. That treasure is not the only mystery, which keeps up the intrigue.

There are other powers than just Devil fruit in the One Piece universe. You can train your physical and non physical abilities to be superhuman, and Mason guessed right shanks intimidated the sea beast. Love the reaction can't wait for the next 🔥🔥🔥

The writing and the design is so well done we gloss over some of the odder details (or missing) and accept them as "it's just how this world works." All around fun!

Extra info: the grand line have an oceon on both side of it that is called the Calm Belt. The Calm Belt have no wind and no seacurrent and is a nest for Sea kings so that is why they need a map to find the entrence to the Grand line

As in general, most of us (fans) really love this show (me included) and well.. the story is not the exact same of the animanga, they had a lot of creative licenses to reduce everything and being able to tell us the important stuff of central story in just 8 eps ( they adapted like 54 eps of the anime), but aside of cutting off some things and change a lot of the ways of how the things happen, they really accomplished to keep the real essence of One Piece and maintain every important thing related to the main characters.
So, now that this show has been renewed for season 2, I think we are all really exited to see how this adaptation goes on because we love almost everything they show us, and what is coming next.. that’s when the real journey begins! Like the crazy Islands & real crazy stuff in the dangerous grand line, and well, that’s when we really begin to see that this story it’s not only about finding a treasure called one piece.
There’s a WHOLE LOT of deep stuff going on in this story, geopolitics stuff combined with ancient history, and a lot of characters with their own visions, stories and developments intertwined someway with what is happening in this world 😅
So yeah, believe it or not OP has 1090+ chapters in the manga but we still don’t know nothing jahsjsh , and yes they haven’t found the one piece yet. We still don’t even know what it is 👍🏻😅😆
Is a real journey but everything goes in crescendo in this story, is definitely the best fictional story that I’ve ever seen, easily better than every mainstream popular books saga we know. I’m really happy to see this adaptation can reach out for more people to know this story and I really hope there would be several renewal seasons to continue the journey watching this crew of actors being the faces of the characters I fell in love with since I discovered OP❤
My favorite aspect about luffy is that he’s a perfect antihero. He embodies the free natured spirit of adventure while also helping people and his crew. Beautifully written series you guys are gonna love it.
a thing that bugs me about OP since like forever is that for a pirate manga/anime there is really not much „on ship“ action (maybe except for Baratie and Thriller Bark but that obviously doesn’t count the way I mean it, like naval battles). Most of the action takes place on islands.

not everyone ate a devil fruit. like shanks, he didn't ate a devil fruit but he has ability. i don't wanna spoil it, but everyone has the ability without eating devil fruit they just have to unlock it, something like that. eating devil fruit gives you super ability or like super powers that makes you different to everyone. in the anime once you ate devil fruit, the only weakness is you can't swim. it didn't say that one splash of sea water can make you weak. but i don't know in manga.
The casting for Buggy was perfect. As a long time Buggy fan in the anime, he was who I was looking forward to the most...and as soon as I recognized the actor I knew they had made the perfect choice.
He's a lot more intimidating and menacing than in the anime, but we love all versions of Buggy in this house!

There is electricity in the world. Right now, the places seem very old style but even in the anime you will see places that clearly have electricity. While watching One Piece, I would skip thinking of is this real or not. Because the world in One Piece is unique.
For what this Live Action covers, it covers most of the Romance Dawn saga, which is essentially the prologue. The Live Action stopped before the final town that's in Romance Dawn, which is understandable. I could easily see a good recap of things there occurring, along with the sheer chaos that occurs there. I'm guessing Season 2 will end after the Alabasta Saga. Then, after that, I'm guessing Season 3 would be Skypiea saga, with lead-up into the ridiculously amazing Water 7/Enies Lobby saga for Season 4. Then, oh god, not sure if Season 5 will either have to be crazy long or split into two, because a LOT happens after that. Then, from there, insert time skip, and I'm guessing.... The next island in itself may be its own season, with lead up to the next saga being against Donquixote Doflamingo. I could see Zou and Whole Cake Island combined into its own season after that. Then, there's the chaos that is the island of Wano as its own season most likely. ...and Wano is where the anime currently is.
Small reminder that, if you are waiting for the "one piece" to appear, it is something we still don't know. So don't expect it anytime soon 😂
What's crazy is people have been very critical of Buggy from his short part in the teaser. And now he's probably the most popular character outside of the SH crew.
There is just so much cut and condensed, its impressive. The dog showed briefly was even a character with his own arc with Luffy. Morgan's corruptness was also shown in more depth in the manga and anime.
The power shanks use aint gonna be explained anytime soon.. In anime, shanks use it in episode 1, they explain it in around episode 400

The snails are originally wild animals that communicate on their own frequency, almost telepathic. If you catch one and attach a signal amplifier and a way to direct to a specific signal you can use it as a phone :) Just wanted you guys to have seen at least the a different type of one before I said :)

To answer 38:15 yeah its been 1000+ episodes and nearly 1100 chapters still trying to find One Piece. This season 1 covers around 45 episodes (relistically 12-15 episodes) condensed in 8 hour long episodes.
Devil fruit's are a Grand line thing.
Like, out of the grand line they are REALLY rare. But they are a very common thing inside the grand line, lot's of people have them
The author has said, for the water weakness, they need to be submerged a decent amount. It requires like 5 inches up their legs to render a Devil Fruit user useless.

Just a little explanation for you guys... Devil Fruits grant its user a special ability, and in turn, the user loses their ability to swim/are weakened by seawater. Which is tough given that the universe of One Piece is like 90% water lol. And! Only one devil fruit of each type exists at a time (meaning Luffy is the only person in the world who has the Gum Gum Fruit). Which is to say there are a LOT of cool powers out there.

This episode covers Orange town arc from main manga. They cut the original theme from it. But the theme of Orange town arc was treasure. Which shows what treasure means. So there was a dog who was protecting his owner (who passed away) shop. So his treasure was that shop. The mayor of town's treasure was their town, Luffy's treasure was his hat and Buggy's treasure was Gold.
The point I am trying to make is story tells you treasure doesn't mean gold, but its something important for different people. Now think about it, in One Piece world the greatest treasure is One piece so what could it be??? I think we need to think broader not smaller like gold. E.g. What would be most treasure for a town with famine? what would be a treasure for a town who is enslaved and tortured? and what would be a treasue for the whole world ? That's why our heroes after 1000 chapters still looking for One piece because its not as simple as finding gold
This is why Im sad they made Buggy claim he wants to go after one piece (which only happened in the recent chapters) other than him saying the real treasure lies in golds etc. Buggy is such a pirate so it's believable he would see treasures that way.

But this is such an awesome show. I haven't seen many episodes of the Anime, but I think I enjoy the live action a little more. Maybe because it has a much faster yet steady pace, unlike the animation.
But yeah, I really enjoyed it.
I love your reaction guys, to make the series more bearable, don't see it as if it were our real world, but as a parallel world, a different universe with technology and artifacts different from what we know.
The series is pretty quickly paced compared to the manga. It cuts a decent amount of stuff, but it covers the most essential plot points from Chapters 1 to 95 of the manga.
36:36 The live action show didn’t really get this across, they just had Garp mention corruption, but Morgan was arrested because he was *very* corrupt. He was ruling over the town with an iron fist(or axe, as it were) and the people feared him because of it. That’s why he was arrested. He was abusing his power.
Yes, there are many Devil Fruits in the One Piece world, but in the beginning, they are introduced gradually.

Sadly 1 short arc didn't made into final cut (because of budget and time constraints). This arc was supposed to introduce an amazing Devil Fruit, anyway it will be featured in Season 2 for sure.
Loving your One Piece reviews. I'm glad someone else made the Head Detective joke about Buggy because I thought the same thing.
Devil fruits are not the only way to get superpowers in this world. Without spoiling anything I will mention that you can train so hard in One Piece world that your ability becomes almost magical.
It would be nice to see them react to some clips from the anime/manga after they complete this season. It could be like how they read the HP books after finishing Deathly Hallows. I'd love to see their reactions to some of the changes that were made.
The search for the One Piece is that eternal dream/hope that the a dreamer/adventurer holds ahead of them as a compass (and hope) as they journey through the difficulties and wonders of life. I don’t think they’re gonna find it until the series ends.
Regarding Captain Morgan, in the anime he was depicted as far more brutal and narcissistic than he was in the live action. He had demanded that the little girl, whom Helmeppo merely bullied, be killed for her disrespect upon hearing about the bar situation, and it was clear that the entire town feared him. As such, Coby was allowed to join the marines in spite of helping Luffy because the Marines and the entire town were happy to be free of his tyranny.
To clarify, Shanks doesn't have Devil Fruit powers, otherwise he couldn't pull Luffy out of the sea. What he did with the Sea King was... something else.
If you wanna know about how they condensed it this first season of the shows goes over like less then a tenth of the episodes or manga chapters or volumes and they cut parts but they go over most of the important parts of the east blue saga.
Also without spoiling too much we don’t know what the one piece is yet but the manga and anime are inching ever so closer to it.

Even though it's a lot more simplified than the anime, which means some unfortunate sacrifices, it's still an okay recreation. For reference, the end of ep2 in the adaptation is ep8 in the anime. So despite all the cut content, it does pretty decent, and overall as a fan, I'm happy with how it's going. Looking forward to next Friday's episode!
I agree, especially with "unfortunate sacrifices" as I actually had tears in my eyes when Chou Chou popped up but LA only viewers won't even know how vip he is, lol.
