Thanks for the video. You saved me a ton of time trying to figure out how to separate the housing from the drive shaft....I thought it was secured by a bolt but all it needed was some brute force.
Great video! I followed it step by step. I did this on an 08 and had a couple issues. The sleeve that you slide to remove the ball joint on the reverse cowling was totally corroded. I had to beat it open with a punch and hammer and destroyed it. The two hoses connected with the band clamps were totaly welded to the hose barbs. The pump assembly took a whole lot of prying and wiggeling and cussing to get loose. The two hoses that were stuck didn't help. I used a hammer handle to wiggle the pump around and a srtange type of plier handles to pry against the hull. A very small crowbar type of tool would have helped. The video is spot on! I just had an older ski with lots more corrosion.
Charles Dewey Haha glad it worked out for you. Yeah the video is a little bumpy but thats what recording one handed on a phone looks like. Now that you've done it once the next time will be very easy amd quick. Glad it helped
Great vid... my '06 STX15-f is new to me -- thanks for the awesome video!! You mentioned an updated housing to the latest spec 3 bearing housing. What year STX do I need to source parts from? Any chance of a parts list? Thanks for any info you can offer!
Hi Matt, the hoses can be quite difficult to remove. Once the clamps are loosened, grip the hoses with a pair of pliers and try to spin then side to side to break their seal
How do I remove the impeller, I got something stuck in there and want to know how to remove it. Is it easy to remove the impeller once your pump is out? Thank you for the video btw!
Matt - great video! SO helpful. I'm not a Jet Ski mechanic at all but I think even I can follow this procedure. I believe my pump is cavitating so I will likely have to replace the impeller. Did you make a follow-on video where you swapped your impeller out? Any further advice/guidance? Recommendation on a replacement impeller? Thanks man!
Great video.... going to be replacing impeller tomorrow on mine. Is there anything special needed to remove impeller? Also hope you make some more videos this was very helpful
Engine, exhaust, and drive shaft have been removed. I can not for the life of me get this off. I even have used a 2 ft pry bar. I can get about a 1/8th gap between flanges and thats it. I have even removed the ride plate. Any idea as to what is causing this ?
+Brian Trinidad Nah mate, the seal doesn't prevent water from entering the hull. If it is leaking it would be the seal around the drive shaft. Pump will need removing and there is a coupler on the shaft that you need to remove
With the housing off, you need to separate the two halves by undoing the 4 bolts on the nose cone half. Then you will have access to the impeller. You put the shaft end into a vise then you use the impeller spline tool inserted into the nose of the impeller and unscrew it. Hopefully that makes some sense.
Hi thanks for the comment. I am going to be putting another video up showing how to check the bearings. But in the mean time, it is quite easy to check. Once the pump is off and you are inspecting the impeller, simply grab the impeller and see if it has any movement up and down/ in and out it will also have a crunchy/grinding feeling when rotating the impeller by hand. If the impeller spins smoothly with no lateral movement, they are generally in good condition. Hope that helps.
I know it was posted 5 years ago but great job on the vid bud. Helped me a lot.
Great Video Man! Just got a STX-15f and was trying to DIY how to remove. This video made is simple! Thank you!
Excellent video. Thank you for posting. Very well shown and explained thoroughly.

No worries. Yeah the longer it's been since removal, the harder it is. Glad it helped.

How do you remove the impeller from the pump? Great video! I sucked up some rocks and the impeller got pretty banged up
