The ZebraGon implements many of my favorite characteristics from multiple time tested nymphs. For example it has the shape of a mayfly, the abdomen of a zebra midge, the density of a Perdigon nymph, and can imitate a variety of different aquatic insects. This is the type of nymph that is often referred to as a “guide fly” because it is so easy and quick to tie, yet extremely effective. It is also easy to expand on this pattern, for example I can add a thread hotspot, or a hotspot dubbing collar to make it more of an attractor pattern. Additionally, I can change the thread color to adjust this pattern to different river systems or time of the year. The variations on this fly are endless.
The versatility and simplicity of this nymph make it a staple in my fly box. Whether I am fishing a technical tailwater or a high mountain freestone stream this pattern gets the job done year round.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the eBook. You bet, the PDF is downloadable from the link included in the email after you purchase. The Flipbook is not downloadable. It is simply a link to a webpage. The workaround there is to bookmark the link to the flipbook. I hope this answers your question. If not let me know. Thanks!

Hi Gilbert, great tie. Question as someone just getting into jig style flies…won’t that fly ride hook up and thus the black spot face the bottom of the river?

That's a great question that I get asked on occasion. As a natural mayfly nymph drifts down river it is constantly being twisted and turned in the water column as it is helpless against the currents. For this reason I don't think it matters what side the wing case is on. The fish eat upside down naturals all day long, and in my experience they eat this fly very readily as well. It's much easier to tie this way, and for me fishes just as good. Hope this answers your question!
