Great guide. Just be mindful there are differences between the preview (0:58) & summary (7:34) sheets and what is actually in the video. For example, the sheets says to produce continuous marines at 19 supply but the video says to make sure you wait until the second depot finishes off the wall at around 21 supply before you start building marines. Also the video says get the first gas at 16 supply but it is not in the sheet. There are several differences (likely changes during production) but just follow the video and all will be well. I am making a valid reference sheet for all three videos and will submit it to the discord. Again, great video guide and the best I've seen of its type so thank you.
I have been watching SC2 professionals for like 7 month now and finally decided to try it myself. Thank you SO MUCH for these awesome guides! Totally gave me even more motivation and made the start so much easier! :)
Haven't played StarCraft since I was a wee lad, just built a pc and got SC2, so excited to get into it and thanks much for the guides, new subscriber here:)
Great video, direct and to the point, but also not to much hand holding as well. After getting back int SC2 I found ive been doing a similar start to this, but I keep trying to build/upgrade more than I need to. This simplifies it a lot.
the tank is really late compared to a destiny cloud fist build but I think this build sets up everything much better. its so much more efficient than the random shit I was doing. thanks for this PiG
I decided to get back into 1v1 yesterday after 2 years or so and I choose to follow this build. Played vs AI 2 games to practise the build order and then I played 3 1v1 games. I got cannon rushed first game (cannon rushed first game after 2 years off 1v1 makes me happy) but I managed to win that game and I got plat 2. The second game I got to try out the build for real against a diamond 3 zerg and I won. The third game was against a nother zerg that I won against. I'm currently plat 1 and just a few games from diamond. I have never been diamond before so thanks for the great build. I bet that diamond is where the real fun begins in terms of skill-level, even though it's not THAT high but it's high enough to make the game a great bit more interesting.
The 3 games after these 3 I lost. All vs terran and one of them had 14k games and Diamond 1, the third one had 17k games and was Master which he had been 9 seasons. I'm platinum 1 and they match me against a multiple masterplayer? I got crushed hard.
What about playing a mech style? This contradicts Vibes beginner T as he says mech is more durable than bio. Jumping to 3 barracks seems straight bio to me. Just curious. Thanks for the video tutorial.
Thank you for the great video (and, in fact, all of your beginner videos). I haven't played SC in almost 20 years and decided to get back into it. Just thought I'd say that I'm finding it easier to follow, a little more informative, and as a bonus, quite a bit more amusing, to watch/listen at 0.5 speed. :D Just noticed, the build orders at the beginning don't have 16 Gas, or is that normal to not show?
Do you have any guides on how to make a proper wall? I just started starcraft 2 multiplayer a week or two ago (before I played the single player campaign and that was that), and I notice that sometimes enemies can get through and other times they are completely blocked. I understand it's common sense for some people to turn on the build grid and make sure every building touches the orange part of the grid, but for some reason it doesn't always work for me. =/
Hey, might be late to reply. The best way to make sure you wall properly is to turn on the grid (so you can see the hexes on the ground) the orangey parts are unbuildable, and unpathable. make sure everything lines up so the hexes from your buildings cover it. Its weird at first because everythings at a weird angle, but it becomes second nature soon enough.
Thank you so much for this guide, PiG. The past few days i've been starting to get into sc2, but it's daunting. This is so helpful for a beginner. Is there anyway this build can be made into a SALT link? I've heard that's a good way to learn builds
The downside is no real information about your enemy (maybe would add another SCV scout or scan his main) and no early aggression (the enemy can do whatever he wants). Or build a reaper instead of early reactor. Solves both problems but takes APM away and delays heavy marine production. So this opening will make TvZ really hard, cause the Zerg can just macro up, cause of no reaper and no direct threat and will be ahead in economy (First aggression at 6:00 at his base). TvT is hard cause most open reaper and defending a reaper while you have 0 marines and your barracks reactor is building, will cost you soms SCVs. In TvP normally the protoss has a hard time establishing his second base cause he has so little units, but with 0 aggression till minute 6 he will have a good economy and enough units to split em up to deal with multiprong. Proxy/Fast oracle will shut down the few marines you have till then. I understand its for beginners and they start to improve and adapt, but I see some flaws in always opening up like that. Maybe mention, when you dont see an expansion build a bunker, go for faster siege tanks or fast e-bay for turrets... Why did you choose that style over a classic 2-1-1 for beginners? Else good job. Easy to understand and follow the guide :)
You can create a build that is very principled. e.g. Use very unit after you build it and dont build more units than you can use. + Have no empty production time and no gas flooding. (Reaper, Hellion, Banshee / thor drop / liberator). This builds are objectiv extremely good, but prone to mistakes. You can also create a simple build which will not be marus favourite weapon, but can lead players easy in the midgame. This build is hard to fuck up. You only focus on building marines and scvs and when the time is right you move out. You can win a lot of game with little effort. btw. the opening is not the most imported part of starcraft. I would say this build is quite good for team games, because most 1v1 builds cut every unit they can and in team games you need more defense, because sims-city doesn't help your allies. (And 1v1 till Plat/Dia)
He uses TheCore hotkeys; I was confused as well when I first started watching PiG until I recently found out about it. You can google it as "TheCore Advanced Keyboard Layout" if you want to find out more. Edit: it's super weird at first and it takes a week or two to get used to it, but I really like using it. If you're really into sc2 and are willing to invest time into TheCore, give it a shot!
Hey, im relatively new but i dont get why people tend to base their builds on nr. of supply rather than the game time. Lots of things can happen at any given moment (You'll attack or get attacked & lose troops as well as SCVs), and if you go by supply, your build order is now messed up. Wouldn't it be more reliable to go by times? (Eg i want to start my 3rd CC by 5:00) or am i missing something?
I just have one problem when doing this opener. I fail every TvT. Maybe it's the meta but I go against Vikingharass and slowpushing tanks almost every TvT and I just can't handle that.
I cant manage to get anywhere near as fast as you. You take about 6 minutes to be attack ready. It takes me about 8-10 minutes to get to that point when i try this build order. My mechanical skills are lacking and i don't know how to improve on them.
Guys im new in SC2. What to do in TvT when enemy take 1 expansion and just def. He build planetary fortress, mass turrets and tanks. Every attack is suicide for me. 90% terrans in silver do this. It's super annoying and i can't deal with it.
Macro hard and contain him in 2 base with tanks and marines. Get upgrades and just have a better army then him as he tries to take his third. If he goes bcs go bcs as well and race to 3/3 air upgrades
if he doesnt post a new one for zerg he has a really good rule of one gas opener tutorial for zerg thats super in depth and takes you through the opening to mid game
@@kostasbrunner5701 also remember a banshee can't possibly be below 4 minutes, this is even if you rush it. Then also try to scout. So you will be safe for the first minutes then just simply make the engine bay at The sametime and make turrets near mineral line.
@@danielrojaszea3952 ok thank you. Think my biggest issue is that I am a lazy scouter ;( but as you say scouting is the best way to be protected... I want to avoid to waste minerals on turrets in the early game when I can instead make a tank or a medi...

Happy are those who see enlightenment on this Pig Terran build.
This is probably the most user friendly tutorial I’ve watched so far as a brand new sc player. Thanks man, definitely gonna look up your vids as I go!
This is amazing! Thank you for remaking the beginner guides
Thank you for this, I'm a returning player after years. Exactly what I was looking for
I love it how welcoming is the Starcraft community with beginners

great tutorial but do you play on the right side of keyboard??
