People caught driving drunk with kids in the car should be convicted for child abuse. There's absolutely no excuses for putting children in harm's way like that.

    • @OldOwl2003

Absolutely , child endangerment, would stick better and make sure of a custodial sentence, hopefully but no matter what the police do, the judge is the one that delivers, the most inappropriate sentence normally, shocking families and the general public.

What pisses me off the most is a lack of remorse. Many have none, you can only pray that they grow some wisdom in thier short lives, to feel that remorse, in the case that no one else has been injured.
If someone else has been injured or our police force has been hurt or endangered, traumatised. Throw the book at them.

If they want to get involved, take them in. Usually criminals revisit the place of the crime, but taking no responsibility is abomniibal. In this case he did.

I am in total agreement with you. I learned to drive at 10yo by my mother putting me in the drivers seat on weekends when her and my step dad were too drunk to drive. Thankfully it was all rural back roads. They even let me make the call when I thought they were too drunk to drive and would turn the keys over to me early in the night when I had decided they had already had too much. I am 46 now and my mother died 9 years ago from the damage alcoholism did her.

I was thinking exactly the same thing . What an absolute disgrace she was . Her poor children , who I'd imagine , have seen her like this on a daily basis must go through hell .
I fear for their future , living as they do in her shadow .
She might possibly be a delightful lady , when she's sober but , she obviously has serious dependency issues . And her alcoholism is having a very profound effect on her children .
Very often , children in a household where alcohol is used to get through a day , tend to follow in their parents footsteps down the path of dependency .
And yet , the other side of the coin , a young lad who has owned up to being an idiot ,,& a dad who isn't making excuses for him .
And I have to say , the Police dealing with all these situations , showed remarkable restraint . I know they were being filmed , so of course they had added pressure to be professional . But even with the cameras on me , I honestly think I would have slapped her ,& said for f##&ck sake , grow up , look at what your doing to your children .
You clearly have a major issue , seek some help before you kill someone.
But like all addicts , until she acknowledges her problem , no one can help her to help herself .

That mother is absolutely vile! not just her attitude but to drive over the limit with three children in the car... what's worse is those children may now learn from that behaviour and could lead to future adult degenerates on the roads and streets that think this is acceptable. God I wish having children was not a right, because there are people out there who just cannot handle the responsibility of parenthood and then we're the ones that have to deal with the aftermath of their spawns growing up as irresponsible as the parents and the vicious cycle of degeneration continues...

I really feel for that young lad, it’s so difficult to get lessons and tests, both for time and finances, I’ve been driving nearly two whole years now and still only have a provisional because I’ve only been able to book and sit 1 test in all that time, doesn’t excuse his actions, he still hasn’t passed a test to prove he is safe to be on the road, but coming back, hands up, he’s got honesty and that’s more than a lot of folks

I would get that test passed. Unless you always have someone to supervise you, you're driving otherwise in accordance with a license and your insurance is invalid. If that's the case, you'd be part of the reason (granted, a tiny part of it) that insurance premiums are so high. Unless you mean you've been taking lessons for all that time because of that, in which case I apologise, but you did say "I've been driving..."

The first drunk driver, disgrsceful - but I like the way the officers treated him with dignity (firmly, they didnt let him get away with it). The mother, equally abhorrent, probably worse for doing it with the kids in the car. I feel sorry for those kids, they don't deserve this.
The big positive was the lad in the Yaris and his dad. He did a silly thing, but seems remorseful, and he seems to have a respectful relationship with his dad/family. Young people make mistakes, let's hope this was a one-off moment of madness.

Here in Australia failing to provide for a breath analysis carries the same penalty as high range drink driving which is 3x over the legal limit. The penalty is $3300 for a first offence, $5500 for a second offence. The license disqualification is a minimum 2 years up to indefinite. The prison term is 18mths to 2 years if its a second offence. If the driver causes an accident as a result, and causes serious injury to someone, the offence is upgraded to aggravated drink driving occasioning actual bodily harm, and that 5-7 years in prison. If the person dies, its upgraded to aggravated drink driving occasioning death, and thats 15+ years prison...the same as manslaughter. Consequently, few people risk driving here if they have had more than two drinks. Two takes you to the limit.

    • @nicolad8822
      @nicolad8822 6 месяцев назад

Sounds slightly heavier penalties maybe, but not that much. Drink driving is usually an automatic one year ban but can be more depending on previous convictions and circumstances. Failure to provide a sample here is also treated as if you would have been over the limit. Two drinks sounds like a lot to me, what size beer of glass or wine would that be? The drink driving limit is quite a bit lower in Scotland than the rest if the country so not even worth risking one there.
