I read in a biography of Rach that he was very heavily influenced by Schumann in his pianism, and I just couldn't see where. Until I heard the first variation of this piece, the jump from dominant to tonic on the upper register is very characteristic
Yes, and you can hear the texture of Kreisleriana's first piece in Rachmaninov's op.39 no.1. But the most direct influence is the texture between Schumann's Op.99 ruclips.net/video/TGzJ7rL8OlA/видео.html and Rachmaninov's Op.16 No.6 ruclips.net/video/FspWE5YNF7c/видео.html
I'd like to add Schumann's piano concerto as an another major influence. In a period when everyone composed piano concertos in a way like piano and some orchestra in the background accompanying, Schumann was one of the first composers to deal with a piano concerto on the stylistic standards of chamber music where the piano and the rest of the instruments have an equal treatment. We can observe that in Schumann's piano concerto almost immediately when after the first theme the piano plays accompanying arpeggios and the melody is taken by the orchestra something very similar that also happens to the second concerto of Rachmaninoff
The variety of moods and colours displayed here is nothing short of astonishing. One must have a tremendous level of endurance to perfom the piece as you did here Caleb. Hats off, sir!
A very difficult work of music, not really the most pianistic writing, many awkward passages, difficult inner voices and legato line, expressive fluctuations -typical Schumann- but I think you did justice to this great work
Thank you for this. I 'played' this a lot about a year ago; I am very bad, but it is so enjoyable to get inside the music, to feel the notes in your hands and to get inside the moods and episodes - the abstract story-telling. I decided that this is the piece of Schumann I like the best. For now! I think you have inspired me to get the music out again.
For me, learning pieces quickly and performing well are two very different things. It takes a long time for me to play something to the level that I feel able to make a satisfying recording
An excellent performance of these gems by Schumann, where you achieve an ideal of beauty that I've not heard before; it's never rushed but always moving, producing great sonorities, with just the right touches for dynamics and phrasing. I've immensely enjoyed listening to your exquisite, sublime renditions here.
such a great video! May I repost your channel to the platform named Gan Jing World which is full of clean and valuable videos? I will keep your videos as is for sure. Thank you! It’s
It is one of those pieces which I feel like has never been played up to its full potential. You know that the supreme beauty is there but you don’t know how to unveil it in its entirety.
@@GICM Schumann dedicated it to Chopin but he didn’t like it and he dedicated his 2nd ballade to Schumann and he is like meh not as good as the first one
Beautiful piece.
eyyy hello there
When you are gonna return from the millitary we miss you

One of the most sophisticated pieces ever written.
i have no idea how pianists like Endres play the seventh movement (sehr rasch) at such an insane pace. Well done!!
I too feel very exhausted mentally and physically whenever I play pretty much any Schumann for an extended period of time.
Superb interpretation

Fantastic performance! You've certainly earned yourself a break
Very, very well played Caleb. You can be proud of yourself! I aspire to reach your level someday.

Glad to hear it! I think this is the darkest and most layered of the Schumann works
Wonderful!
i thought you only liked the cover
The triplet texture in the first part sounds like rach's op. 39 no. 1. It's like dark whirling clouds
😯
this level of piano seems so unattainable for me ... i envy those who can learn pieces quickly and perform them well. keep up the good work

@@calebhu6383 i feel that. but i'm slow at both 😆
Can you give an example of a piece and how long it took you to learn it and play at a standard that you were satisfied with?
amazing work
What an amazing achievement! Your playing is great!
great job, wow so good!

Thanks so much! Any relation to the Wright brothers?
:O wasn't expecting a new upload this fast!
The part at 30:14 sounds kinda jazzy I love it!

Do you go to a music school, if so, which one (if you’re comfortable sharing)? And how long have you been playing? Your playing is amazing.
Thanks! I go to the music school at UT Austin, and I've been playing piano for 13 years
Wow! how much do I need to practice to play this like you?
