Boq is the character I think desperately needing some added dimension. We don't get a lot of his perspective on events, which makes it unclear whether he's supposed to 100% be seen as a d**k or if Nessarose really WAS a tyrant to the Munckins like he says. How unreliable of a narrator is he? When Nessarose dies, we don't know if he learned about the news or how he feels about it. Is he happy, sad, spiteful, or regretful? RE: your questions about Wicked Part 2 elements in this trailer: I work in movie marketing, and can tell you that early trailers are often, by necessity, simply a pastiche of what's ready to be shown, what VFX scenes are at least partially baked, so that's what they choose to show, more than it being a strategic decision.
Thank you, I was going to point this out, too: trailers are often their own thing that can contain footage that's specifically meant for the trailer, not in any way from the final cut(s). So the speculation of "is this from movie 1 or movie 2?" the answer could easily be "neither."
I doubt there'll be no new songs in Part 1. There's at least going to be one playing during the credits if they want a chance at a 'best original song' Oscar and all the other award shows
I love that you pointed out that Dorothy is wearing the correct color of socks! Even official MGM merch often shows her in white socks, but they were blue to make the Ruby Slippers pop! They do the same with the Silver Shoes, too, as they might have looked too washed out with white socks.
I feel like Defying Gravity will be a mix between song/action...rather then hearing the song from beginning to end, there will be an action sequence with the guards are chasing her and dialogue with Galinda. This would make sense if it's the end of Part 1. Make-up wise, they are keep Cynthia's brighter and rounder features when she's younger and darker contour face when she's older (as seen in the image released in Vanity Fair). I've seen some comments critiquing how she looks in the green but it needs to be reminded they are students at Shiz and they are meant to look older in the second Act.
I really think the first hat shot is from after Elphaba has melted, because of the damp ground and smoke and Chistery then crashing out the window and flying off. I also have a feeling this maybe a trailer for both films, because it doesn’t specify this is for part 1, and that they did this primarily for the Super Bowl ad. A lot of the familiar images of the Wizard of Oz in Wicked come from the second act. I think they were wanting to set the stage for a lot of different people, people who know wicked, people who don’t, people who are interested, people who don’t care, they are trying to cater to all of them, trying to draw them in with familiar images from the Wizard of Oz, and not frighten them off with saying this is just part 1
@AtlantisUnderTheSea that they are, there's three areas of the expansion, Emerald City, BnW country, and Elphie's castle. There'll be two coasters and a spinner.
I punched the air when I saw Michelle Yeoh in this trailer! As soon as her casting was announced I wanted her Morrible to be more severe like in the novel.
The end riff was very not good, I was dying to hear what you thought about it. Very surprised you didn't mention it because I don't think that a good representation of her vocals.
THE RIFF!!!! THE RIFF! I do not like it either, but I am obsessed with it as a choice. I appreciate a big, bold choice. It gives us a lot to talk about. It takes chutzpah. And they ended the trailer with it... pop culture moment of the year, already. I can't stop listening to it. 😂
I'm hoping it was a mixing error - hopefully it will go well with the full song but them cutting the end of it and sticking it at the end of the trailer 😬 not good it was too abrupt
it's interesting that Elphaba shows up to school in black... I know we see her in school uniform later for few moments, but having her in normal colors I think would make more sense so the black is her transformation later on
@@khanyi8512 No, she is wearing a shade of deep blue at the beginning of the show, matching the Shiz uniforms. The first time she wears black is when she goes to The Emerald City. There was a funeral scene in the San Francisco previews of the show that was chopped before Broadway in which she was wearing black for the first time.
Amazing dissection - I was waiting for this video all day. One thought about the sequence with Ariana in the bridal dress. Before popular she says something like "Fiyero and I are going to be married" and the way its been done on stage before is Glinda normally gets uber-excited to the degree where its quite funny and then she reveals that Fiyero doesn't know this so could it maybe be a little dream sequence to show what Glinda's wedding would look like only for it then to have the bubble burst because we get told it hasn't been told yet.
I was thinking that too, or it pops up somewhere in "Thank Goodness/Couldn't be Happier." Alternatively, Glinda does actually marry someone else in the book, they could be pulling more book lore into this.
About the splitting of the movie into two, I think there is a really strong potential in Wicked to do things in 2 parts, unlike many other 2-part films. I just remarked to a friend today that in the musical, Act 1 is focused on the question of "How Elphaba became the Wicked Witch" while Act 2 is more "Why does Elphaba do these things to Dorothy". I like how there is strong potential to make them feel like a movie and a sequel rather than 2 parts of the same story. That could be why we see things that should be in Act 2 in the teaser/in the first movie, they could easily frame the first act as a satisfying story that gives us the backstory of how Elphaba started as the Wicked Witch, and give the audience flash-forwards/acknowledgements of the future to help the audience tie the story to the Wizard of Oz, for anyone who has not seen Wicked. Or, yes, it could be that the effects are done on these shots while others are not complete yet
I think they shouldn’t have added the riff of Defying Gravity in the trailer like they did with The Little Mermaid for example, cause how each Elphaba sings this part is why we re-watch Wicked live many times. We wait for this specific moment and I think they ruined it by adding it to the trailer.
@@virginializcano3935 ever heard some of Verkaiks options on that riff? Yes, sometimes people choose to completely change it - so no, it is not the "correct note". It also isn't "strained". Cynthia added vocal distortion which makes it a little more aggressive (more rock than traditional pop musical). It might be a bold choice but to me it absolutely makes sense since Elphaba is furious and letting loose. Since we don't know how the movie will handle Defying gravity and Elphaba over all - it might make more sense than anything else...for that we will have to wait and see.
Great interpretation. I do like Cynthia’s delivery of, “It’s the Wizard who should be afraid of me.” She doesn’t put the traditional pause before, “of me.” I think it makes her stronger and doesn’t force the moment-just a statement of fact
@@sophielem59 I thought so. I think the thing I've always got with Dillamomd is that it doesn't need to be a 'he' but so long as its a character that resembles the oppression of the animals that goes on that's what matters the most.

As I remember, Elpahaba arrives in Shiz wearing the same blue uniform as everyone, and eventually gets the black dress. Its odd she is wearing the black dress from the beggining
I thought the same about the scene where she's standing in the middle of everyone wearing the black hat (with Nessa in the background), because it's obviously "Dancing Through Life," but she's wearing a black dress vs the sleeveless blue-gray dress that she wars in the show. I thought that was an odd choice too.
@@broadwaybrook2319 They are certainly making artistic modifications wich is a good thing since its and adaptation, I also noticed Galinda not holding the book of speels durring a shooting of no mone mourns the wickedd. But the black dress was part of the narrative, just as the hat and cape, Elpahaba gets this and transforms into the wich of the west. Having said that, the hat part is accurate, its when she arrives at the ballroom, sometime after dancing trough life. At this point, Boq and Nessa are already on a date.
re: Elphaba and the Yellow Bricks. It seems that expanding the musical into two films is allowing them to pull more from the Maguire books and set footage has shown a machine used to lay the Yellow Brick Road, there was even footage of Elphaba flying over the Yellow Brick Road being built... and in Maguire's book, the Wizard builds the Yellow Brick Road as a highway to easily transport troops across Oz. Still would fit in the story post Defying Gravity of they keep that timeline as cannon, but...
I feel like that shot could easily be from a montage at the beginning, Glinda’s exposition during No One Mourns the Wicked, showing shots of the story juxtaposed with Glinda’s narration.
I think from that ultimately brief one minute that I'm most worried that people are going to say "why did they cast so and so" not understanding their Broadway backgrounds. I know Erivo is a powerhouse. I know Grande can nail some crazy soprano. I do not think these casting choices were made lightly. But I'm still oddly more excited for the supporting cast from the trailer alone. It's just a weird experience I had. I didn't even have any expectations hahaha Time and a better trailer will tell.... ;) It's obvious the company making the movie *wants* people to talk about it. So, even if it was on purpose that they put out a kind of lackluster teaser that means people are going to be talking about it. And it also means that hardcore fans will protect it and say that the critics/skeptics don't know what they're talking about and then they will go and see it and either be validated or have their opinions changed. And that is the whole point of putting out these trailers, months and months in advance. They want the squabble. It's marketing at its finest especially when you see right through it hahaha
I also have been thinking that a lot of this footage looks like it belongs in the second film. Watching your video it just occurred to me, the trailer concludes with "Wicked" not "Wicked Part One". I might be reading into this, but could that have been intentional because this is a teaser for the entire thing rather than just the first installment?
the hand holding frame at aroun 27:13, the pink dress kind of looks reminiscent of the dress she's wearing on the train at around 20:49. As a media student, it really interests me that they seem to have used scenes/shots from both parts of the film.
The trailer (I think) features clips of both movies. The hat on the floor is after the 'melting' I think due to the steamy smoke around it. Also glinda in the bubble I believe that's after she's spoken to the wizard at the end of act 2 and is leaving before 'no one morns the wicked'
Re: the hat after the melting. I wonder if we're going to get an extended scene at the beginning with Galinda picking up the hat right after that and then hard cut into No One Mourns the Wicked. Because in the stage show we just start with the townspeople but the movie could pick it up a little earlier and add some visuals instead of just having Glinda talk about it
I do think we are seeing an overall presentation of the movie with this trailer just in the title being “WICKED” alone not a part one or part two attached yet. I’m beyond excited by the visuals and costumes so far. Can’t wait to see what we get as it gets closer. ❤️❤️🎉🎉
I think there might be a duet bewteen the wizard and morrible plotting to get rid of elphaba and giving dorothy this task and we will see a lot more plotting behind everything. I am also now intrigued to know how many more actors are in this if you ran into someone whos in it but wasnt announced. I also thought the shoes would be red after elphabas spell on them as they turned red when nessa was wearing them
the hat at the start actually looks to be the same scene when the monkey flys out the window. See the smoke still coming out of it, makes me think it is a post-melt hat.
KEEP IN MIND--this would also not be the first time that something has been filmed or created with with CGI for ONLY for a trailer that never is in the movie.
I didn't know I needed a 30 minute reaction to the WICKED trailer until you posted it 🤣 My guess for the handholding scene is actually as they're waiting to meet the wizard, mostly because the carpet/stairs don't feel like they match the Ozdust Ballroom. Plus Elphaba seems to have a bag I think? Can't wait to see it!
This film is directed by Jon M Chu His previous film was In the Heights, in the teaser trailer he showed one of the final scenes just in the beginning I think the hat in the first scene belongs to one of the final scenes of Wicked part 2
That riff is the canary in the coal mine. It's iconic for Wicked fans. And in the trailer it's not good. It sounds effortful and slightly flat. If the film makers didn't realize how important it was to get that right, it doesn't bode well for other elements in the movie. That and the fact that Cynthia Erivo looks old enough to be Ariana Grande's mother.
Exactly. Finally A rational sane person. But we’re talking about Jon Chu here. The guy who gave one of the most iconic & belty songs on Broadway (Breathe) to Leslie Grace. He doesn’t care about getting things right. This casting could not be any worse.
@virginializcano3935 The casting is perfect, Cynthia Erivo is a phenomenal singer. I'm surprised that she took that approach to the last note 🤔 It probably sounds better in the context of the full song though
@@rine4194 i agree she’s a great singer. But that doesn’t mean she can sing everything & anything. Her voice just doesn’t suit this role. Elphabas get up into the nasally, whiny, bright cheek area to create that classic witchy sound we all love & appreciate. I honestly don’t think Cynthia can do it. Her voice is decidedly more throaty & gravelly even on her highest notes. It’s amazing & gorgeous for the right songs. There are certain voice types that fit certain roles. It’s nothing to do w good or bad. It’s more about right & wrong.
We create CGI at work. So naturally, it pays me bills and there is always a place for it. But overuse it and it becomes oversaturated, it loses the effect, the wow factor. This is my fear for Wicked
This is the breakdown in minute detail video I think most of us have been waiting for since this trailer dropped… 😂 very much enjoyed your breakdown/thoughts! X
What I would die for is some elements of the Son of a Witch Novel invluded in one the films with original songs or classic wicked song. That would be terrific !
Problably because there is only a train line in the Gillikin, where Shiz is located and Dorothy falls on Munchkinland. In the books the Gillikin is described as more modern and industrialized than the rest of Oz, so it makes sense.
Conclusion: Mickey has seen Wicked way too many times if he is able to dissect minute plot points, props, and intricate orders of events off the top of his head 😂
On the accents- I'm Australian and the production we had years ago had the performers putting on American accents which made sense to me because Kansas. It wasn't until a friend told me that she saw it in London in English accents that I realised it would vary
It was weird watching The Lion King in London (I'm American) because all of the lions now had British accents. And I guess it made sense if they all had the same accent as Scar since they're, like, related, and also the actual king has a British accent. But Timon, Pumbaa, and the hyenas were all doing American accents like the movie!
hot take: the hand holding in the setting we haven't seen yet might really be For Good!!!!!!!! the space has that vibe and the outfits could also really be that. idk just an idea
I imagine that Part 2 might be a remake to The Wizard of Oz but from Elphaba's perspective with scenes from the book to pad up the screentime which is why they are showing more of Dorothy.
This would be amazing! And also would fill out time, considering they have said there will be 2 new songs in Part 2 (no new songs in part 1). It would also pull the Boomers, Gen X and older Millennials like me, who grew up watching the Wizard of Oz.
I wonder if it's going to start with the confrontation between Elphaba and Dorothy before going into No One Mourns the Wicked. We also know that Elphaba has a vision at some point, maybe some of these future scenes are random flashes early on in the movie during her vision, which she has no context for, but we as the audience can potentially interpret
I have rewatched the trailer dozens of times since it hit RUclips and I’ve developed a theory that all of these scenes are actually from the first movie. I think they may expand on the idea of the vision Elphaba has in The Wizard and I and actually making future sight part of her powers, which will add to why she makes the decisions she makes within the story.
My theory from watching the trailer is that they open the movie with a recreation of the end of The Wizard of Oz; Dorothy defeating Elphaba and returning to the wizard and Glinda, Glinda sends Dorothy home and leaves to head to the town square, where we start No one Mourns the Wicked and then learn the real story of what happened versus the spun version we started with
There seem to be multiple sets that contain a circle of windows all facing in at each other (or out at the world depending on your perspective). It looks like all the windows in Elphaba 's lair (including the one the monkey flies out of) have a circle inside with spoke-like lines going out to the edge.
Was waiting for this! Ok. But really. Why is nobody talking about the Defying gravity last notes at the end of the trailer? I really dislike it but hopefully it'll work within the whole song. But the massive dip in tune in the rif is making me quite sad 🤣🤣
I actually really liked it. I had to listen to it a few times to process it. I like how guttural it is. Defying Gravity is a song about the embrace of empowering rage. I like that it isn't too clean or smooth. It feels more like a primal yell, a scream of defiance, while still being very controlled by the performer. And that actually gets me really excited about Erivo's performance. Her sarcasm in the beginning of the trailer about her skin color is so soft spoken, and that riff is so intense, that I really feel the kind of journey we're about to go on, and it gets me excited. It's exactly the opposite of how I felt during The Little Mermaid trailer, with the completely unnecessary riff at the end of Part of Your World, a performative flourish for a moment that should be a quiet wish. That feels like a story misstep. This however feels like completely in line with the story. But I'm one of those people who in general doesn't mind "ugly" singing as a musical acting choice. I think that note accuracy and vocal smoothness have become too big of a priority in musical theater circles rather than acting through singing. I think it's the impact autotune has had in general on our culture's attitude towards music. But I do recognize that 1) It's a preference thing, and 2) we've only heard one riff.
The book by Gregory Maguire has parts where Elphaba is following Dorothy and watching her and the events that unfold. Maybe parts of the book are being incorporated?
I have (along with millions of Wickeders) waited over a decade for this to transpire, and boy does it look amazing! #Wicked2024 #LFB FYI it is only a teaser trailer the full trailer is due out in June
I have worries, the fact they haven’t advertised this as part 1 and show a lot of act 2 content makes me wonder if they are possibly making it one film and containing the story if the first part doesn’t perform financially, as a lot of part 1 films haven’t performed at the box office financially. I am surprised at Ariana and her expressions and reactions she stands out in this trailer more to me. I’m also curious that the makeup on elphaba looks better on stage with more depth and dimension and I’m sorry but I don’t know if I like the end riff of defying gravity 😬 😊
They might not even go that route. That was not in the book. They added it for the musical, and then Maguire I think threw an insinuation about it into one of the sequels, but it was not in the original Wicked book. I assume they WILL do it- but we can't take it as a given.
If they are going the musical route, in the broadway musical we see her “death” scene. Her dying from water in the musical was just a plan and Fyero was in on it.
I have a suspicion that the movie is going to begin with that hat on the ground of the tower, post melting, and it will transition into the No One Mourns The Wicked scene, mirroring the way the scene begins in the stage show with the giant hat.
I will say they are saying "Wicked" on the title card. not "Wicked: Part 1" so it seems as though they are justifying mixing footage from part two. does that make sense?
Oh is this the trailer for a film musical? Those unfamiliar with Wicked wouldn't necessarily guess that from watching this - it's almost like they're trying to conceal that it's a musical, but why would a film studio want to do that? ;)
It's just more like a teaser Why would you think they would release the actual trailer way months before The actual trailer should be coming like mid 2024
I think this trailer is more a preview for both movies as there’s too many moments from “act 2” being shown here and I’m not sure they’d want to confuse everyone by making the story any more non-linear than what the musical does by adding act 2 scenes into the first movie (especially when act 1 is arguably the strongest act of the musical by a mile - so why bog it down?) also at the end when the Wicked logo appears there’s no “part 1” on the screen, which also makes me think this is just a general first look for both movies… 🤔
If you slow down the frame of Elphaba jumping out the window and flying up the tower, it appears she is wearing the Part Two trench coat. I don’t think those are from Defying Gravity, rather Elphaba’s return to the Emerald City.
I believe the director said as much. Plus if they want to pad up the runtime so that they can justify putting it into two parts, adding bits from the book would be the easiest, least controversial option.
“This should be the only thing on the internet right now, who is watching anything else” 😂 excited to see Wicked film when it comes out, need to watch the trailer again
I don't mind the casting of an older actress as Elphie, but I really would have liked if they had chosen an actress who has experience in the role, like Rachel Tucker or Emma Hunton or Willemijn Verkaik.
I feel the few scenes that are from Part 2 some are also from Part 1. The hat post melt could be the opening shot (like the giant hat in the show) with the overture then we cut to Glinda entering her bubble flying down to Munchkinland to start NOMTW. Then we could even see the exact same moments later in Part 2 with the actual melting then cutting to the finale with the NOMTW/FG reprises. The wedding dress I feel is from INTG but they could change the start of Part 2 to be their wedding & use the same dress/set up even. So until both are released there is no for sure bet exactly what shots line up where.
Is it possible that the most recent “Mission Impossible” flopping, caused Universal to realize “Wicked” should be a single film? Most of this trailer is made up of the plot of Act 2.
In the description of the trailer, they say that movie two is coming out November 26, 2025, so my guess is that this is a teaser for both movies? but i don’t know for sure - it’s definitely weird how much Act 2 material is in this trailer.
I have feelings.. I don't know if I'm the right person to say this as I've only seen the musical on stage once that was being last year and even then I rate it 6/10 because whilst the sets and the costumes were absolutely stunning I felt that Alexia Khadime was too nasally to sing as Elphaba, but this new version does look interesting. I can totally buy Cynthia as Elphaba, I want her glasses, her whole look is gorgeous!! Ariana as Galinda, not so sure... She looks too plastic for me personally but time will tell
I just want to know when Hollywood will understand that what musical theater lovers want are the subtantially easier and cheaper to film pro-shots of the stage performance
15:32 POTENTIAL SPOILERS: I think that frame where the hat is smoking and the monkey (most likely Chistery) is flying out of the window might be Kiamo Ko, which, I believe in the books is a castle that Fiyero’s family owns (correct me if I’m wrong), but it was kind of torn down. In the stage adaptation, where she melts has that same background of a dark abandoned castle, so most likely, in the movie I feel like that shot might be in that castle.

The shot of the girls grabbing hands is right before they meet the Wizard, because they're nervous and comforting eachother.
I need universal studios to do a wicked land. Like a ride flying with elphaba. And a whole theme land with esmerad city And munchiking land
I have been saying this for years. If the Harry Potter fans can have Hogwarts, we deserve to have Oz.
They did in Japan before it got replaced
I believe they're building a Wizard of Oz section in Movie World Australia. There'll be an emerald city location and 2 rides !
@AtlantisUnderTheSea that they are, there's three areas of the expansion, Emerald City, BnW country, and Elphie's castle. There'll be two coasters and a spinner.
I'd pay for that
I punched the air when I saw Michelle Yeoh in this trailer! As soon as her casting was announced I wanted her Morrible to be more severe like in the novel.
The end riff was very not good, I was dying to hear what you thought about it. Very surprised you didn't mention it because I don't think that a good representation of her vocals.
It did sound bad. Hopefully with it being an early trailer, it will get polished by the end product.
I wasn't a fan of the riff. The riff used in the show is so iconic and is what everyone thinks of when you say Wicked.
They did her a huge disservice by using that riff in the first trailer.
I know we see her in school uniform later for few moments, but having her in normal colors I think would make more sense so the black is her transformation later on
Wasn’t she already in black from the beginning? I’m referring to the productions of her.
@@khanyi8512 yes, yes she was.
@@khanyi8512 I believe she actually is in navy
@@khanyi8512navy blue
@@alexandermackay9636 So did I. That's what I thought too.
❤ this comment. Exactly how I feel, although I also think there's a huge chance that everything will sound radically different in the final movie.
The riff sounds really bad 😢
each Elphaba also sings this part differently so you're point is not valid at all
@@cnp3205 not that differently. No one sings it like Erivo. It’s strained, dreadful & not the correct note.
I love how The Silver Slippers still has some rubies scattered around it.
We still haven’t see anything about Dr dilamond 😱
I'm wondering if Keala's role is the replacement for Dillamond.
@@danjon8799 they did say it would be a woman but still a goat. So, maybe?
@@sophielem59 I thought so. I think the thing I've always got with Dillamomd is that it doesn't need to be a 'he' but so long as its a character that resembles the oppression of the animals that goes on that's what matters the most.
Ngl I have a feeling it may be idina 😅 that explains why they’re being so secretive about who is cast as dr dilamond because they want it to be a surprise cameo! Idina has also hinted at it not long ago 💚
Interesting thought. Plus I think that would be really good because Dillamond is not in for long. Only time will tell@@charlzfn4094
Iconic behaviour by you at the after party
It's so funny to imagine 😂
This is just the best mental image: him sipping on a vodka lemonade going, “Yes, the Wicked trailer has dropped! Would you like to view it?” 😂
re: Elphaba and the Yellow Bricks.
Just a bit worried about Glinda so far. She just seems very subdued from all the shots we get of her aside from the pink one.
I didn't even have any expectations hahaha
Time and a better trailer will tell.... ;)
It's obvious the company making the movie *wants* people to talk about it.
I saw somebody make a joke that Idina could play Doctor Dilamond and I want that so bad you have no idea.
I want it too
That would explain the secrecy.
Kristin might be able to baaa better though
I also have been thinking that a lot of this footage looks like it belongs in the second film. Watching your video it just occurred to me, the trailer concludes with "Wicked" not "Wicked Part One". I might be reading into this, but could that have been intentional because this is a teaser for the entire thing rather than just the first installment?
Every time you move your arm to the edge of the frame and become green gives me life throughout this entire video.
Could Glinda with the butterflies also be a vision during "Thank Goodness," when she's fantasizing about getting her "happy ending"?
the hand holding frame at aroun 27:13, the pink dress kind of looks reminiscent of the dress she's wearing on the train at around 20:49.
I agree
Re: the hat after the melting. I wonder if we're going to get an extended scene at the beginning with Galinda picking up the hat right after that and then hard cut into No One Mourns the Wicked. Because in the stage show we just start with the townspeople but the movie could pick it up a little earlier and add some visuals instead of just having Glinda talk about it
@@kl-1447 I did think this as well... A callback to the original opening on Broadway with the giant hat
I also thought the shoes would be red after elphabas spell on them as they turned red when nessa was wearing them
The yellow bricks haven't been laid into a road when Elphaba touches them in the trailer.
the hat at the start actually looks to be the same scene when the monkey flys out the window. See the smoke still coming out of it, makes me think it is a post-melt hat.
"Butterflies Friendship Colorful", Sounds like an Aliexpress listing 🤔
Who would have guessed you'd get so much use out of that green light this year?
KEEP IN MIND--this would also not be the first time that something has been filmed or created with with CGI for ONLY for a trailer that never is in the movie.
I watched the trailer literally thinking- Mickey is going to a video about it as soon as he can. And...here you are.
This film is directed by Jon M Chu
His previous film was In the Heights, in the teaser trailer he showed one of the final scenes just in the beginning
I think the hat in the first scene belongs to one of the final scenes of Wicked part 2
I would have changed the lightning and cinematography.
Right now the visuals look a bit flat and like a Disney live action. But I love everything else
Looks great
Honestly it gave me Tomorrowland trailer vibes (interesting concept but boring) but Mickey Jo's enthusiasm is contagious
I also got a Disney live action vibe and couldn't pin down why. That must be it!
THIS THIS THIS EXACTLY THIS
maybe dont judge a movie you HAVENT WATCHED for a single second of TRAILER MUSIC
Loved the Trailer....but damn this Riff in the end from Cynthia Erivo didn't sound good😢
Mickey what did you think of this little musical snippet?
So finding out the singing was done the same way as the Les Mis movie and this being two parts has my excitement dead on arrival .
I think the monkey flying out the window happens before Defying Gravity as a result of Elphaba giving Chistery and the other monkeys wings.
I think it’s a teaser for both movies and the first official trailer will be all about the first movie
Isn’t Michelle’s Yeoh’s last name pronounced like yo, like in yoyo.
If Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel don’t get cameo performances in this film i will be very disappointed.
Maybe Idina Menzel will play Dr. Dillamond. Which, if true, would traumatize any young Frozen fans any parents foolishly bring to the theater.
Seriously!
What I would die for is some elements of the Son of a Witch Novel invluded in one the films with original songs or classic wicked song. That would be terrific !
Hold on...if there is a TRAIN to the Emerald City, why doesn't Miss Galinda just give Miss Gale a ....ticket to ride?
" I am so bad at giving directions" - Glinda lol
I've been waiting all day!!! So excited to hear your thoughts. Too much CGI and "fantasy" like trailer for me...
Yeah, nothing about this world feels real or lived-in. Which is the complete opposite of the entire point of Maguire's book.
Mixed feelings, personally - but i’m hopeful overall!! Really rooting for these movies.
hot take: the hand holding in the setting we haven't seen yet might really be For Good!!!!!!!! the space has that vibe and the outfits could also really be that. idk just an idea
Your seemingly random assortment of words and sentence fragments could *be* the next teaser, tbh 😆
So we know that Idina and Kristen are going to appear somewhere, but how camp would it be if they hid every elphaba and Glinda in the film?
That'd be a nice easter egg for Wicked fans!
This would be interesting and would kind of draw on the books prologue where Elphaba eavesdrops on Dorothy, Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow.
Loling at “thanksgiving” at the club 💀
I'm just glad all the leads can sing. So over Hollywood casting non singers for these movies that are in their heart musicals
@@zacharykhan8556 that could be true, but I always saw that scene as Elphaba getting a feeling that Nessa was in trouble at that very moment.
My theory from watching the trailer is that they open the movie with a recreation of the end of The Wizard of Oz; Dorothy defeating Elphaba and returning to the wizard and Glinda, Glinda sends Dorothy home and leaves to head to the town square, where we start No one Mourns the Wicked and then learn the real story of what happened versus the spun version we started with
What about these shots being after when she’s melted during “no one morns the wicked”?
Good point!
@@lydia1634I agree with you totally. The first watch, it was a surprise and a bit jarring but after that first watch it just made sense.
I like the growl in her voice. It gives it a certain ferocity but I'm not a fan of the riff either.
It’s her war cry!
Ppl only saying this bc of nostalgia, this riff is great
The book by Gregory Maguire has parts where Elphaba is following Dorothy and watching her and the events that unfold. Maybe parts of the book are being incorporated?
this is the exact ammount of over-analyzing that I expected 😂
I have (along with millions of Wickeders) waited over a decade for this to transpire, and boy does it look amazing!
#Wicked2024 #LFB
FYI it is only a teaser trailer the full trailer is due out in June
I have worries, the fact they haven’t advertised this as part 1 and show a lot of act 2 content makes me wonder if they are possibly making it one film and containing the story if the first part doesn’t perform financially, as a lot of part 1 films haven’t performed at the box office financially. I am surprised at Ariana and her expressions and reactions she stands out in this trailer more to me. I’m also curious that the makeup on elphaba looks better on stage with more depth and dimension and I’m sorry but I don’t know if I like the end riff of defying gravity 😬 😊
Where's the music in the trailer?? There are like 7 notes-- 5 from Arianna and two from cynthia..
This is more like 'first look'
The actual trailer should be coming like mid 2024. Cause it's way too earlier to release a trailer
I wonder if they will explain by fyero aka the scarecrow joined Dorothy.
They might not even go that route. That was not in the book. They added it for the musical, and then Maguire I think threw an insinuation about it into one of the sequels, but it was not in the original Wicked book. I assume they WILL do it- but we can't take it as a given.
Maybe not having a brain means he's lost his memories 👀
Spoilers dude.
If they are going the musical route, in the broadway musical we see her “death” scene. Her dying from water in the musical was just a plan and Fyero was in on it.
Fiyero isn't the scarecrow. That was a delusion of Elphaba's quickly disintegrating mental health.
I have a suspicion that the movie is going to begin with that hat on the ground of the tower, post melting, and it will transition into the No One Mourns The Wicked scene, mirroring the way the scene begins in the stage show with the giant hat.
I was waiting for this video!!
personally, i love the look of the trailer and i can NOT wait for the films!!!
I CANT BELEIVE ITS ACTUALLY ALMOST HERE!
I will say they are saying "Wicked" on the title card. not "Wicked: Part 1" so it seems as though they are justifying mixing footage from part two. does that make sense?
Oh is this the trailer for a film musical? Those unfamiliar with Wicked wouldn't necessarily guess that from watching this - it's almost like they're trying to conceal that it's a musical, but why would a film studio want to do that? ;)
It's just more like a teaser
Why would you think they would release the actual trailer way months before
The actual trailer should be coming like mid 2024
Riiiight? Conceal that it’s a musical. Conceal that it’s in two parts, released a year apart…only way to get butts in seats, it seems.
I love how they open with the hat, its a great call back to how the original stage show opened before they ultimately changed it.
Are there aspects from the book (that did not make it to the stage musical) being added into the movie?
I believe the director said as much. Plus if they want to pad up the runtime so that they can justify putting it into two parts, adding bits from the book would be the easiest, least controversial option.
@@benjamintillema3572 I was hoping that would be the case
I want to see Bowen Yang have sex with a tiger
Maybe the Tin Man and Scarecrow will be different characters closer to the book than the musical?
I don't think we see any of One Short Day in the trailer since as we noticed in the Cinemacoon leaked footage Glinda is wearing the YELLOW DRESS
“This should be the only thing on the internet right now, who is watching anything else” 😂 excited to see Wicked film when it comes out, need to watch the trailer again
21:24 they were ruby red slippers in the MGM film because early-ish prism lens technicolor picked up red better than silver.
I don't mind the casting of an older actress as Elphie, but I really would have liked if they had chosen an actress who has experience in the role, like Rachel Tucker or Emma Hunton or Willemijn Verkaik.
The Glinda wedding part can also be a vision from when she tells Elphaba her “secret” during popular
Literally love this! great video as always Mickey!
The hat at the beginning has smoke coming from it so it could be No one Mourns the Wicked
Thank you! This was so much fun watching and analyzing with you!!
The trailer has gotta be for both parts. Give this first aired during the Super Bowl that’s not surprising
I just want to know when Hollywood will understand that what musical theater lovers want are the subtantially easier and cheaper to film pro-shots of the stage performance
I'm not a huge fan of Wicked, but this trailer did get me interested in maybe checking out the movie when it comes out, on aesthetic alone.
I hope the film is worth it.
You talking about Elphaba’s spectacles missed they form of an infinity symbol… hinting at her possible future power.
