I am in Zimbabwe. There truly has been a drought, but Baobab trees are only found in drier and more arid parts of the country. Therefore, if the selling of the fruit has somewhat helped people, it has only helped a small fraction of the population in the drought-stricken parts of Zimbabwean rural areas.
Population needs to be in balance with jobs, resources, nature and the environment. Having a bigger population in any country than the country can support makes no sense. Access to food, water, shelter, energy and jobs should guide population levels. The worlds population is still expected to add another billion people to feed, clothe and produce pollution. Humans are crowding out all other species of plants and animals. Education and birth control are key to reducing poverty and hunger. Having a child that you can not provide for yourself is cruel and irresponsible. We need solutions not just sympathy. Endless population growth is not sustainable on a finite planet. Every country needs to "TRY" to be more self sufficient. When there are not enough resources to sustain a population something has to give. Countries need to focus on quality of life for their citizens and not just quantity of life for cheap labor. Why import fossil fuels when wind and solar energy can be produced locally and solar energy can power electric vehicles. We need solutions not just sympathy.
If there was an organisation (uncorrupted and not wastefully spending, with huge salaries) we could donate and help them along. We wouldn't get poorer...
The harvesters getting 50 cents for 5 kg, while 1 kg is sold for 30 euros in Europe. She cant buy even oil or soap or school fees but the exploiter from Baobab Alliance saying the harvesters are doing quite well. His pocket might be but not them. 😡
@@mzee5533 The harvesters are stealing the fruit. It's not their property. These local Thieves did not plant, irrigate or fertilize the fruit trees. It cost them nothing. They are complaining about the Money from selling stolen property.
@@TriAmpHiFiyou do know these trees are +100years old right? Some are even a 1000… and most are on communal land not private property. Let’s tell our story properly.
The commentor seems to me like someone who has Baobab company making billions of dollars from this industry. He falsely claims Baobab collectors are getting fair money. The reality is otherwise.
There are over 10,000 bamboo processing enterprises, and the output value of the bamboo industry has increased from 82 billion yuan ($11.26 million) in 2010 to 415.3 billion yuan in 2022, with an average annual growth rate of over 30 percent.
Bamboo shoots are a good source of nutrition. They are consumed as a delicacy in certain areas of India. India is the second-largest producer of Bamboo in the world whereas China is the first largest producer. The country's estimated annual production of Bamboo is around 3.23 million tons. Ethiopia with about 1 million hectares of indigenous bamboo, is the biggest bamboo grower in Africa. It is home to 67% of all African bamboo.
Western daddy complaining energy prices to high.... Western politicians try as hard as possible to keep the issue as calm as possible. Western daddy tend to vote the most extreme of these: Far Right -> ('they promise to solve 'There Is No-Problem' by ignorance') Gimme a hint about western morals?
Don't pity them. The majority of these rural areas voted for a government that failed to prepare for a drought, despite being in power for 45 years and going through multiple droughts. Let them reap what they have sown, maybe next time those that survive will vote with their heads.
Baobab, Cream of Tartar fruit. It was a fun fruit treat for me when I was a child so long ago. It was a burst of sour/sweet sherbet that fizzed in your mouth. I wish they could pronounce bay-o-bab correctly.

Zimbabwe has suffered since Mugabe expelled White farmers. Sometimes, gradual reforms are better than immediate action.
DW: Zimbabweans are now surviving on baobab fruits.
Reality: a few individuals trading baobab fruits.

Some misleading reporting here. As Africans we are better served by RUclipsrs than traditional media like DW, CNN, BBC
