Hungarian here, just a quick heads up to anyone who may think everyone in the country is born with a pig tail. That's a ridiculous notion. Some of us got centipede body, some got goat feet, vaporeon vagina or snake intestines. I for one got horse tail and it rarely disrupts my daily life. Point is, hungarians are indeed diverse people and I will not stand for associating an entire nation with just pig tails, thank you

When I watched this I thought that the pig was the reality and the Lieutenant was just reacting normally upon seeing that.

I'm Hungarian, I heard about this film, but never had the guts to watch it. And watching this video made me sick in my stomach - because of the plot of course. How the hell we can do so fucked up movie? This 10 minutes summary of the story made me disgusted.

A filmcímben szereplő "Taxidermia" tulajdonképpen a magyarok azon tulajdonságára utal, hogy ahelyett, hogy megjavítanák a fasizmustól és a diktatúráktól mai napig romlott társadalmukat, inkább egy idealizált múltképet teremtenek (szó szerint kitömik a múltat) annak ellenére, hogy a múlt is pont olyan gusztustalan, mint a jelen.

Ok, so the first guy was a dissociative daydreamer, the second ate too much, and the third neurodivergent with a fixation on taxidermy.
Well yes. But if you analyze the story from a metaphoric point of view, it's basically about the fate of Eastern Europe. The first being the countries under fascism (constantly fatasizing about greater, heroic times while blind to the horrors and violence around them) the second is Stalinism (glorifying anything and everything a single person does and then leaving him to rot, entirely obsessed with a self-created image of perfection) and the third son is the current times. This film is about the crushing realization of an entire cultural group that the past is disgusting, the present is hopeless, and the future is uncertain.

@@andordimeny6130 I saw a different review saying that the film is basically about the fulitity of individual resistance. All main characters live under various political systems (as you put it), and consciously or unconsciously, rebel against those systems with their bodies as tools. The grandpa lives under the fascism, and rebels by escaping reality and endulging in degenerate pleasures, the son lives under stalinism and rebels by consuming, and the grandson lives under capitalism and rebels by preserving things so that they can't be wasted.

Just watched this after watching your video on A Serbian Film from like 3 years ago. You used to do so much less humor, to the point that in one part you said something like "And then he proceeds to show the main character a video of one of the most disgusting and repulsive things ever caught on tape" and I immediately heard your voice in the back of my mind going "a woman"

@@MrPlyxan it depends on your mindset at the time. When I first watched this I was horrified lol. But watching it later on in life its kind of funny, there's supposed to be a bit of black comedy there in parts. I don't think it's grotesque any more as its all very absurd.

I had a seminar called Adaptations where we had to watch this film and had to read the original pieces as well. Most of us were disgusted by this film, it was a very uncomfortable watch. This wasn't the only film that Pálfi György has directed and we had to watch. He is kind of a fundamental director if we talk about Hungarian filmmaking. His other films are similarly 'naturalistic' :D

Honestly, Taxidermia is the best Hungarian movie I have seen in decades. I personally recommend it.
It is quite great! Though, I would say that Nincsen Nekem Vágyam Semmi, Testről és Lélekről, Felkészülés and Saul Fia had some greater achievements

És végül... A tényleg zseniális film amit senki nem látott mert nem reklámoztuk nehogy még okosodjanak az emberek (Kontroll, Bibliotheque Pascal, Mephisto, Redl Ezredes, Tanú, Ötödik Pecsét, Két Félidő a Pokolban)

Heeeey, I saw this movie ages ago with my husband. Real memorable stuff. Originally, I got interested in it because of the soundtrack by Amon Tobin but eventually the movie itself was the thing that stayed with me, not the music.
